1 ஏரோது ராஜாவின் நாட்களில் யூதேயாவிலுள்ள பெத்லகேமிலே இயேசு பிறந்தபொழுது, கிழக்கிலிருந்து சாஸ்திரிகள் எருசலேமுக்கு வந்து, Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,

2 யூதருக்கு ராஜாவாகப் பிறந்திருக்கிறவர் எங்கே? கிழக்கிலே அவருடைய நட்சத்திரத்தைக் கண்டு, அவரைப் பணிந்து கொள்ள வந்தோம் என்றார்கள். Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

3 ஏரோதுராஜா அதைக் கேட்டபொழுது, அவனும் அவனோடுகூட எருசலேம் நகரத்தார் அனைவரும் கலங்கினார்கள். When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.

4 அவன் பிரதான ஆசாரியர் ஜனத்தின் வேதபாரகர் எல்லாரையும் கூடி வரச்செய்து: கிறிஸ்துவானவர் எங்கே பிறப்பார் என்று அவர்களிடத்தில் விசாரித்தான். And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.

5 அதற்கு அவர்கள்: யூதேயாவிலுள்ள பெத்லகேமிலே பிறப்பார்; அதேனென்றால்: And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,

6 யூதேயா தேசத்திலுள்ள பெத்லகேமே, யூதாவின் பிரபுக்களில் நீ சிறியதல்ல; என் ஜனமாகிய இஸ்ரவேலை ஆளும் பிரபு உன்னிடத்தில் இருந்து புறப்படுவார் என்று, தீர்க்கதரிசியினால் எழுதப்பட்டிருக்கிறது என்றார்கள். And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.

7 அப்பொழுது ஏரோது, சாஸ்திரிகளை ரகசியமாய் அழைத்து, நட்சத்திரம் காணப்பட்ட காலத்தைக் குறித்து அவர்களிடத்தில் திட்டமாய் விசாரித்து: Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.

8 நீங்கள் போய், பிள்ளையைக்குறித்துத் திட்டமாய் விசாரியுங்கள்; நீங்கள் அதைக் கண்டபின்பு, நானும் வந்து அதைப் பணிந்து கொள்ளும்படி எனக்கு அறிவியுங்கள் என்று சொல்லி, அவர்களைப் பெத்லகேமுக்கு அனுப்பினான். And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.

9 ராஜா சொன்னதை அவர்கள் கேட்டுப் போகையில், இதோ, அவர்கள் கிழக்கிலே கண்ட நட்சத்திரம் பிள்ளை இருந்த ஸ்தலத்திற்குமேல் வந்து நிற்கும்வரைக்கும் அவர்களுக்குமுன் சென்றது. When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.

And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh.

12 பின்பு, அவர்கள் ஏரோதினிடத்திற்குத் திரும்பிப் போகவேண்டாம் என்று சொப்பனத்தில் தேவனால் எச்சரிக்கப்பட்டு, வேறு வழியாய்த் தங்கள் தேசத்திற்குத் திரும்பிப்போனார்கள். And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.

13 அவர்கள் போனபின்பு, கர்த்தருடைய தூதன் சொப்பனத்தில் யோசேப்புக்குக் காணப்பட்டு: ஏரோது பிள்ளையைக் கொலைசெய்யத் தேடுவான்; ஆதலால் நீ எழுந்து, பிள்ளையையும் அதின் தாயையும் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு எகிப்துக்கு ஓடிப்போய், நான் உனக்குச் சொல்லும் வரைக்கும் அங்கேயே இரு என்றான். And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.

14 அவன் எழுந்து, இரவிலே பிள்ளையையும் அதின் தாயையும் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு, எகிப்துக்குப் புறப்பட்டுப் போய், When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:

15 ஏரோதின் மரணபரியந்தம் அங்கே இருந்தான். எகிப்திலிருந்து என்னுடைய குமாரனை வரவழைத்தேன் என்று, தீர்க்கதரிசியின் மூலமாய்க் கர்த்தரால் உரைக்கப்பட்டது நிறைவேறும்படி இப்படி நடந்தது. And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.

16 அப்பொழுது ஏரோது தான் சாஸ்திரிகளால் வஞ்சிக்கப்பட்டதைக் கண்டு, மிகுந்த கோபமடைந்து, ஆட்களை அனுப்பி, தான் சாஸ்திரிகளிடத்தில் திட்டமாய் விசாரித்த காலத்தின்படியே, பெத்லகேமிலும் அதின் சகல எல்லைகளிலுமிருந்த இரண்டு வயதுக்குட்பட்ட எல்லா ஆண்பிள்ளைகளையும் கொலைசெய்தான். Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wise men.

17 புலம்பலும் அழுகையும் மிகுந்த துக்கங்கொண்டாடலுமாகிய கூக்குரல் ராமாவிலே கேட்கப்பட்டது; ராகேல் தன் பிள்ளைகளுக்காக அழுது, அவைகள் இல்லாதபடியால் ஆறுதலடையாதிருக்கிறாள் என்று, Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying,

18 எரேமியா தீர்க்கதரிசியினால் உரைக்கப்பட்டது அப்பொழுது நிறைவேறிற்று. In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.

19 ஏரோது இறந்தபின்பு, கர்த்தருடைய தூதன் எகிப்திலே யோசேப்புக்கு சொப்பனத்தில் காணப்பட்டு: But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,

20 நீ எழுந்து, பிள்ளையையும் அதின் தாயையும் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு இஸ்ரவேல் தேசத்துக்குப் போ; பிள்ளையின் பிராணனை வாங்கத்தேடினவர்கள் இறந்து போனார்கள் என்றான். Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child's life.

21 அவன் எழுந்து, பிள்ளையையும் அதின் தாயையும் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு இஸ்ரவேல் தேசத்துக்கு வந்தான். And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.

22 ஆகிலும், அர்கெலாயு தன் தகப்பனாகிய ஏரோதின் பட்டத்துக்கு வந்து, யூதேயாவில் அரசாளுகிறான் என்று கேள்விப்பட்டு, அங்கே போகப் பயந்தான். அப்பொழுது அவன் சொப்பனத்தில் தேவனால் எச்சரிக்கப்பட்டு, கலிலேயா நாட்டின் புறங்களிலே விலகிப்போய், But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of Galilee:

23 நாசரேத்து என்னும் ஊரிலே வந்து வாசம் பண்ணினான். நசரேயன் என்னப்படுவார் என்று, தீர்க்கதரிசிகளால் உரைக்கப்பட்டது நிறைவேறும்படி இப்படி நடந்தது. And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.

1 Aerothu raajaavin naatkalil yoothaeyaavilulla pethlakaemilae Yesu piranthapoluthu, kilakkilirunthu saasthirikal erusalaemukku vanthu, Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,

2 Yootharukku raajaavaakap piranthirukkiravar engae? Kilakkilae avarutaiya natchaththiraththaik kanndu, avaraip panninthu kolla vanthom entarkal. Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

3 Aerothuraajaa athaik kaettapoluthu, avanum avanodukooda Jerusalem nakaraththaar anaivarum kalanginaarkal. When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.

4 Avan pirathaana aasaariyar janaththin vaethapaarakar ellaaraiyum kooti varachcheythu: Kristhuvaanavar engae pirappaar entu avarkalidaththil visaariththaan. And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.

5 Atharku avarkal: yoothaeyaavilulla pethlakaemilae pirappaar; athaenental: And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,

6 Yoothaeyaa thaesaththilulla pethlakaemae, yoothaavin pirapukkalil nee siriyathalla; en janamaakiya isravaelai aalum pirapu unnidaththil irunthu purappaduvaar entu, theerkkatharisiyinaal eluthappattirukkirathu entarkal. And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.

7 Appoluthu aerothu, saasthirikalai rakasiyamaay alaiththu, natchaththiram kaanappatta kaalaththaik kuriththu avarkalidaththil thittamaay visaariththu: Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.

8 Neengal poy, pillaiyaikkuriththuth thittamaay visaariyungal; neengal athaik kanndapinpu, naanum vanthu athaip panninthu kollumpati enakku ariviyungal entu solli, avarkalaip pethlakaemukku anuppinaan. And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.

9 Raajaa sonnathai avarkal kaettup pokaiyil, itho, avarkal kilakkilae kannda natchaththiram pillai iruntha sthalaththirkumael vanthu nirkumvaraikkum avarkalukkumun sentathu. When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.

10 Avarkal antha natchaththiraththai kannda pothu, mikuntha aanantha santhoshamatainthaarkal. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.

11 Avarkal antha veettukkul piravaesiththu, pillaiyaiyum athin thaayaakiya mariyaalaiyum kanndu, saashdaangamaay vilunthu athaip panninthukonndu, thangal pokkishangalaith thiranthu, ponnaiyum thoopavarkkaththaiyum vellaippolaththaiyum atharkuk kaannikkaiyaaka vaiththaarkal. And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh.

12 Pinpu, avarkal aerothinidaththirkuth thirumpip pokavaenndaam entu soppanaththil thaevanaal echcharikkappattu, vaeraு valiyaayth thangal thaesaththirkuth thirumpipponaarkal. And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.

13 Avarkal ponapinpu, karththarutaiya thoothan soppanaththil yoseppukkuk kaanappattu: aerothu pillaiyaik kolaiseyyath thaeduvaan; aathalaal nee elunthu, pillaiyaiyum athin thaayaiyum koottikkonndu ekipthukku otippoy, naan unakkuch sollum varaikkum angaeyae iru entan. And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.

14 Avan elunthu, iravilae pillaiyaiyum athin thaayaiyum koottikkonndu, ekipthukkup purappattup poy, When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:

15 Aerothin maranapariyantham angae irunthaan. Ekipthilirunthu ennutaiya kumaaranai varavalaiththaen entu, theerkkatharisiyin moolamaayk karththaraal uraikkappattathu niraivaeraுmpati ippati nadanthathu. And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.

16 Appoluthu aerothu thaan saasthirikalaal vanjikkappattathaik kanndu, mikuntha kopamatainthu, aatkalai anuppi, thaan saasthirikalidaththil thittamaay visaariththa kaalaththinpatiyae, pethlakaemilum athin sakala ellaikalilumiruntha iranndu vayathukkutpatta ellaa aannpillaikalaiyum kolaiseythaan. Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wise men.

17 Pulampalum alukaiyum mikuntha thukkangaொnndaadalumaakiya kookkural raamaavilae kaetkappattathu; raakael than pillaikalukkaaka aluthu, avaikal illaathapatiyaal aaraுthalataiyaathirukkiraal entu, Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying,

18 Eraemiyaa theerkkatharisiyinaal uraikkappattathu appoluthu niraivaerittaு. In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.

21 Avan elunthu, pillaiyaiyum athin thaayaiyum koottikkonndu Israel thaesaththukku vanthaan. And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.

22 Aakilum, arkelaayu than thakappanaakiya aerothin pattaththukku vanthu, yoothaeyaavil arasaalukiraan entu kaelvippattu, angae pokap payanthaan. Appoluthu avan soppanaththil thaevanaal echcharikkappattu, kalilaeyaa naattin purangalilae vilakippoy, But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of Galilee:

23 Naasaraeththu ennum oorilae vanthu vaasam pannnninaan. Nasaraeyan ennappaduvaar entu, theerkkatharisikalaal uraikkappattathu niraivaeraுmpati ippati nadanthathu. And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.
