הַדָּבָר֙ The word dābār אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ʾăšer הָיָ֣ה came hāyâ אֶֽל to ʾēl יִרְמְיָ֔הוּ Jeremiah yirmĕyâ מֵאֵ֥ת from ʾēt יְהוָ֖ה the Lord, yĕhōwâ לֵאמֹֽר׃ saying, ʾāmar

ק֥וּם Arise, qûm וְיָרַדְתָּ֖ and go down yārad בֵּ֣ית house, bayit הַיּוֹצֵ֑ר to the potter's yāṣar וְשָׁ֖מָּה and there šām אַשְׁמִֽיעֲךָ֥ I will cause thee to hear šāmaʿ אֶת ʾēt דְּבָרָֽי׃ my words. dābār

וָאֵרֵ֖ד Then I went down yārad בֵּ֣ית house, bayit הַיּוֹצֵ֑ר to the potter's yāṣar וְהִנֵּה֛וּ and, behold, hinnē עֹשֶׂ֥ה he wrought ʿāśâ מְלָאכָ֖ה a work mĕlāʾkâ עַל on ʿal הָאָבְנָֽיִם׃ the wheels. ʾōben

וְנִשְׁחַ֣ת was marred šāḥat הַכְּלִ֗י And the vessel kĕlî אֲשֶׁ֨ר that ʾăšer ה֥וּא he hûʾ עֹשֶׂ֛ה made ʿāśâ בַּחֹ֖מֶר of clay ḥōmer בְּיַ֣ד in the hand yād הַיּוֹצֵ֑ר of the potter: yāṣar וְשָׁ֗ב it again šûb וַֽיַּעֲשֵׂ֙הוּ֙ so he made ʿāśâ כְּלִ֣י vessel, kĕlî אַחֵ֔ר another ʾaḥēr כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר as ʾăšer יָשַׁ֛ר good yāšar בְּעֵינֵ֥י seemed ʿayin הַיּוֹצֵ֖ר to the potter yāṣar לַעֲשֽׂוֹת׃ to make ʿāśâ

וַיְהִ֥י came hāyâ דְבַר Then the word dābār יְהוָ֖ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֵלַ֥י to ʾēl לֵאמֽוֹר׃ me, saying, ʾāmar

הֲכַיּוֹצֵ֨ר potter? yāṣar הַזֶּ֜ה with you as this ze לֹא lōʾ אוּכַ֨ל cannot yākōl לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת I do ʿāśâ לָכֶ֛ם בֵּ֥ית O house bayit יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl נְאֻם saith nĕʾum יְהוָ֑ה the Lord. yĕhōwâ הִנֵּ֤ה Behold, hinnē כַחֹ֙מֶר֙ as the clay ḥōmer בְּיַ֣ד hand, yād הַיּוֹצֵ֔ר in the potter's yāṣar כֵּן so kēn אַתֶּ֥ם ye ʾattâ בְּיָדִ֖י in mine hand, yād בֵּ֥ית O house bayit יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ of Israel. yiśrāʾēl

רֶ֣גַע instant regaʿ אֲדַבֵּ֔ר I shall speak dābar עַל concerning ʿal גּ֖וֹי a nation, gôy וְעַל and concerning ʿal מַמְלָכָ֑ה a kingdom, mamlākâ לִנְת֥וֹשׁ to pluck up, nātaš וְלִנְת֖וֹץ and to pull down, nātaṣ וּֽלְהַאֲבִֽיד׃ and to destroy ʾābad

וְשָׁב֙ turn šûb הַגּ֣וֹי nation, gôy הַה֔וּא If that hûʾ מֵרָ֣עָת֔וֹ from their evil, raʿ אֲשֶׁ֥ר whom ʾăšer דִּבַּ֖רְתִּי I have pronounced, dābar עָלָ֑יו against ʿal וְנִֽחַמְתִּי֙ I will repent nāḥam עַל of ʿal הָ֣רָעָ֔ה the evil raʿ אֲשֶׁ֥ר that ʾăšer חָשַׁ֖בְתִּי I thought ḥāšab לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת to do unto them. ʿāśâ לֽוֹ׃

וְרֶ֣גַע And instant regaʿ אֲדַבֵּ֔ר I shall speak dābar עַל concerning ʿal גּ֖וֹי a nation, gôy וְעַל and concerning ʿal מַמְלָכָ֑ה a kingdom, mamlākâ לִבְנ֖וֹת to build bānâ וְלִנְטֽוֹעַ׃ and to plant nāṭaʿ

וְעָשָׂ֤ה If it do ʿāśâ הָרַע֙ה evil raʿ בְּעֵינַ֔י in my sight, ʿayin לְבִלְתִּ֖י not biltî שְׁמֹ֣עַ that it obey šāmaʿ בְּקוֹלִ֑י my voice, qôl וְנִֽחַמְתִּי֙ then I will repent nāḥam עַל of ʿal הַטּוֹבָ֔ה the good, ṭôb אֲשֶׁ֥ר wherewith ʾăšer אָמַ֖רְתִּי I said ʾāmar לְהֵיטִ֥יב I would benefit them. yāṭab אוֹתֽוֹ׃ ʾēt

וְעַתָּ֡ה Now ʿattâ אֱמָר to, speak ʾāmar נָ֣א therefore go nāʾ אֶל to ʾēl אִישׁ the men ʾîš יְהוּדָה֩ of Judah, yĕhûdâ וְעַל and to ʿal יוֹשְׁבֵ֨י the inhabitants yāšab יְרוּשָׁלִַ֜ם of Jerusalem, yĕrûšālaim לֵאמֹ֗ר saying, ʾāmar כֹּ֚ה Thus kō אָמַ֣ר saith ʾāmar יְהוָ֔ה the Lord; yĕhōwâ הִנֵּ֨ה Behold, hinnē אָנֹכִ֜י I ʾānōkî יוֹצֵ֤ר frame yāṣar עֲלֵיכֶם֙ against ʿal רָעָ֔ה evil raʿ וְחֹשֵׁ֥ב you, and devise ḥāšab עֲלֵיכֶ֖ם against ʿal מַֽחֲשָׁבָ֑ה a device maḥăšābâ שׁ֣וּבוּ you: return šûb נָ֗א ye now nāʾ אִ֚ישׁ every one ʾîš מִדַּרְכּ֣וֹ way, derek הָֽרָעָ֔ה from his evil raʿ וְהֵיטִ֥יבוּ good. yāṭab דַרְכֵיכֶ֖ם and make your ways derek וּמַעַלְלֵיכֶֽם׃ and your doings maʿălāl

וְאָמְר֖וּ And they said, ʾāmar נוֹאָ֑שׁ There is no hope: yāʾaš כִּֽי but kî אַחֲרֵ֤י after ʾaḥar מַחְשְׁבוֹתֵ֙ינוּ֙ our own devices, maḥăšābâ נֵלֵ֔ךְ we will walk hālak וְאִ֛ישׁ and we will every one ʾîš שְׁרִר֥וּת the imagination šĕrîrût לִבּֽוֹ heart. lēb הָרָ֖ע of his evil raʿ נַעֲשֶֽׂה׃ do ʿāśâ

לָכֵ֗ן Therefore kēn כֹּ֚ה thus kō אָמַ֣ר saith ʾāmar יְהוָ֔ה the Lord; yĕhōwâ שַֽׁאֲלוּ Ask šāʾal נָא֙ ye now nāʾ בַּגּוֹיִ֔ם among the heathen, gôy מִ֥י who mî שָׁמַ֖ע hath heard šāmaʿ כָּאֵ֑לֶּה such ʾēlle שַֽׁעֲרֻרִת֙ horrible thing. šaʿărûrâ עָשְׂתָ֣ה hath done ʿāśâ מְאֹ֔ד a very mĕʾōd בְּתוּלַ֖ת things: the virgin bĕtûlâ יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ of Israel yiśrāʾēl

הֲיַעֲזֹ֥ב Will leave ʿāzab מִצּ֛וּר from the rock ṣûr שָׂדַ֖י of the field? śāde שֶׁ֣לֶג the snow šeleg לְבָנ֑וֹן of Lebanon lĕbānôn אִם ʾim יִנָּתְשׁ֗וּ be forsaken? nātaš מַ֛יִם waters mayim זָרִ֥ים that come from another place zûr קָרִ֖ים shall the cold qar נוֹזְלִֽים׃ flowing nāzal

כִּֽי Because kî שְׁכֵחֻ֥נִי hath forgotten šākaḥ עַמִּ֖י my people ʿam לַשָּׁ֣וְא to vanity, šow יְקַטֵּ֑רוּ me, they have burned incense qāṭar וַיַּכְשִׁל֤וּם and they have caused them to stumble kāšal בְּדַרְכֵיהֶם֙ in their ways derek שְׁבִילֵ֣י paths, šābîl עוֹלָ֔ם the ancient ʿôlām לָלֶ֣כֶת to walk hālak נְתִיב֔וֹת in paths, nātîb דֶּ֖רֶךְ a way derek לֹ֥א not lōʾ סְלוּלָֽה׃ cast up; sālal

לָשׂ֥וּם To make śûm אַרְצָ֛ם their land ʾereṣ לְשַׁמָּ֖ה desolate, šammâ שְׁרִוקֹ֣ת hissing; šĕrûqâ עוֹלָ֑ם a perpetual ʿôlām כֹּ֚ל every one kōl עוֹבֵ֣ר that passeth ʿābar עָלֶ֔יהָ thereby ʿal יִשֹּׁ֖ם shall be astonished, šāmēm וְיָנִ֥יד and wag nûd בְּרֹאשֽׁוֹ׃ his head. rōš

כְּרֽוּחַ wind rûaḥ קָדִ֥ים them as with an east qādîm אֲפִיצֵ֖ם I will scatter pûṣ לִפְנֵ֣י before pānîm אוֹיֵ֑ב the enemy; ʾōyēb עֹ֧רֶף them the back, ʿōrep וְלֹֽא and not lōʾ פָנִ֛ים the face, pānîm אֶרְאֵ֖ם I will shew rāʾâ בְּי֥וֹם in the day yôm אֵידָֽם׃ of their calamity. ʾêd

וַיֹּאמְר֗וּ Then said ʾāmar לְכ֨וּ they, Come, hālak וְנַחְשְׁבָ֣ה and let us devise ḥāšab עַֽל against ʿal יִרְמְיָהוּ֮ Jeremiah; yirmĕyâ מַחֲשָׁבוֹת֒ devices maḥăšābâ כִּי֩ for kî לֹא shall not lōʾ תֹאבַ֨ד perish ʾābad תּוֹרָ֜ה the law tôrâ מִכֹּהֵ֗ן from the priest, kōhēn וְעֵצָה֙ nor counsel ʿēṣâ מֵֽחָכָ֔ם from the wise, ḥākām וְדָבָ֖ר nor the word dābār מִנָּבִ֑יא from the prophet. nābîʾ לְכוּ֙ Come, hālak וְנַכֵּ֣הוּ and let us smite nākâ בַלָּשׁ֔וֹן him with the tongue, lāšôn וְאַל and let us not ʾal נַקְשִׁ֖יבָה give heed qāšab אֶל to ʾēl כָּל any kōl דְּבָרָֽיו׃ of his words. dābār

הַקְשִׁ֥יבָה Give heed qāšab יְהוָ֖ה me, O Lord, yĕhōwâ אֵלָ֑י to ʾēl וּשְׁמַ֖ע and hearken šāmaʿ לְק֥וֹל to the voice qôl יְרִיבָֽי׃ of them that contend with me. yārîb

הַיְשֻׁלַּ֤ם be recompensed šālam תַּֽחַת for taḥat טוֹבָה֙ good? ṭôb רָעָ֔ה Shall evil raʿ כִּֽי for kî כָר֥וּ they have digged kārâ שׁוּחָ֖ה a pit šûḥâ לְנַפְשִׁ֑י for my soul. nepeš זְכֹ֣ר׀ Remember zākar עָמְדִ֣י that I stood ʿāmad לְפָנֶ֗יךָ before pānîm לְדַבֵּ֤ר thee to speak dābar עֲלֵיהֶם֙ for ʿal טוֹבָ֔ה good ṭôb לְהָשִׁ֥יב them, to turn away šûb אֶת ʾēt חֲמָתְךָ֖ thy wrath from them. ḥēmâ מֵהֶֽם׃ hēm

לָכֵן֩ Therefore kēn תֵּ֨ן deliver up nātan אֶת ʾēt בְּנֵיהֶ֜ם their children bēn לָרָעָ֗ב to the famine, rāʿāb וְהַגִּרֵם֮ and pour out nāgar עַל their by ʿal יְדֵי the force yād חֶרֶב֒ of the sword; ḥereb וְתִֽהְיֶ֨נָה be hāyâ נְשֵׁיהֶ֤ם and let their wives ʾiššâ שַׁכֻּלוֹת֙ bereaved šakkûl וְאַלְמָנ֔וֹת of their children, and widows; ʾalmānâ וְאַ֨נְשֵׁיהֶ֔ם and let their men ʾîš יִֽהְי֖וּ be hāyâ הֲרֻ֣גֵי put hārag מָ֑וֶת to death; māwet בַּח֣וּרֵיהֶ֔ם their young men bāḥûr מֻכֵּי slain nākâ חֶ֖רֶב by the sword ḥereb בַּמִּלְחָמָֽה׃ in battle. milḥāmâ

תִּשָּׁמַ֤ע be heard šāmaʿ זְעָקָה֙ Let a cry zaʿaq מִבָּ֣תֵּיהֶ֔ם from their houses, bayit כִּֽי when kî תָבִ֧יא thou shalt bring bôʾ עֲלֵיהֶ֛ם upon ʿal גְּד֖וּד a troop gĕdûd פִּתְאֹ֑ם suddenly pitʾôm כִּֽי them: for kî כָר֤וּ they have digged kārâ שׁיּחָה֙ a pit šûḥâ לְלָכְדֵ֔נִי to take lākad וּפַחִ֖ים snares paḥ טָמְנ֥וּ me, and hid ṭāman לְרַגְלָֽי׃ for my feet. regel

וְאַתָּ֣ה thou ʾattâ יְ֠הוָה Yet, Lord, yĕhōwâ יָדַ֜עְתָּ knowest yādaʿ אֶֽת ʾēt כָּל all kōl עֲצָתָ֤ם their counsel ʿēṣâ עָלַי֙ against ʿal לַמָּ֔וֶת me to slay māwet אַל not ʾal תְּכַפֵּר֙ forgive kāpar עַל ʿal עֲוֹנָ֔ם their iniquity, ʿāwōn וְחַטָּאתָ֖ם their sin ḥaṭṭāʾâ מִלְּפָנֶ֣יךָ from thy sight, pānîm אַל neither ʾal תֶּ֑מְחִי blot out māḥâ וְהְי֤וּ but let them be hāyâ מֻכְשָׁלִים֙ overthrown kāšal לְפָנֶ֔יךָ before pānîm בְּעֵ֥ת with them in the time ʿēt אַפְּךָ֖ of thine anger. ʾap עֲשֵׂ֥ה thee; deal ʿāśâ בָהֶֽם׃
