Ecclesiastes 2
1 તેથી મેં મારી જાતને કહ્યું કે, “ચાલ ત્યારે, હવે ભરપૂર આનંદ કર, હવે હું તારી પરીક્ષા કરીશ; માટે મોજશોખ કરી લે; પણ મને સમજાયું કે આ પણ નકામું કામ છે.
2 મેં વિનોદ વિષે જણાવ્યું કે, હંમેશા હસતા રહેવું તે પણ મૂર્ખાઇ છે; તેનાથી શું ભલું થાય?”
3 પછી મેં મારા અંત:કરણમાં શોધ કરી કે હું મારા દેહને દ્રાક્ષારસથી તરબોળ કરું, તેમ છતાં મારા અંત:કરણનું ડહાપણ તેવું ને તેવું જ રહે. વળી માણસોએ દુનિયા ઉપર પોતાના સઘળા આયુષ્ય પર્યંત શું કરવું સારું છે, તે મને સમજાય ત્યાં સુધી હું મૂર્ખાઇ ગ્રહણ કરું.
1 I said in mine heart, Go to now, I will prove thee with mirth, therefore enjoy pleasure: and, behold, this also is vanity.
2 I said of laughter, It is mad: and of mirth, What doeth it?
3 I sought in mine heart to give myself unto wine, yet acquainting mine heart with wisdom; and to lay hold on folly, till I might see what was that good for the sons of men, which they should do under the heaven all the days of their life.
