1 தாவீது தன்னோடிருந்த ஜனங்களை இலக்கம் பார்த்து, அவர்கள்மேல் ஆயிரத்துக்கு அதிபதிகளையும், நூற்றுக்கு அதிபதிகளையும் வைத்து, And David numbered the people that were with him, and set captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds over them.

And the king said unto the people, I will surely go forth with you myself also.

And the king said unto them, What seemeth you best I will do. And the king stood by the gate side, and all the people came out by hundreds and by thousands.

5 ராஜா யோவாபையும், அபிசாயையும், ஈத்தாயையும் நோக்கி: பிள்ளையாண்டானாகிய அப்சலோமை என்னிமித்தம் மெதுவாய் நடப்பியுங்கள் என்று கட்டளையிட்டான்; இப்படி ராஜா அப்சலோமைக்குறித்து அதிபதிகளுக்கெல்லாம் கட்டளையிட்டதை ஜனங்கள் எல்லாரும் கேட்டிருந்தார்கள். And the king commanded Joab and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Deal gently for my sake with the young man, even with Absalom. And all the people heard when the king gave all the captains charge concerning Absalom.

6 ஜனங்கள் வெளியே இஸ்ரவேலருக்கு எதிராகப் புறப்பட்டபிற்பாடு, எப்பிராயீம் காட்டிலே யுத்தம் நடந்தது. So the people went out into the field against Israel: and the battle was in the wood of Ephraim;

7 அங்கே இஸ்ரவேல் ஜனங்கள் தாவீதின் சேவகருக்கு முன்பாக முறிய அடிக்கப்பட்டார்கள்; அங்கே அன்றையதினம் இருபதினாயிரம்பேர் மடியத்தக்கதாக பெரிய சங்காரம் உண்டாயிற்று. Where the people of Israel were slain before the servants of David, and there was there a great slaughter that day of twenty thousand men.

8 யுத்தம் அந்த தேசம் எங்கும் பரந்தது; அன்றையதினம் பட்டயம் பட்சித்த ஜனங்களைப்பார்க்கிலும், காடு பட்சித்த ஜனம் அதிகம். For the battle was there scattered over the face of all the country: and the wood devoured more people that day than the sword devoured.

11 அப்பொழுது யோவாப் தனக்கு அதை அறிவித்தவனை நோக்கி: நீ அதைக் கண்டாயே; பின்னை, ஏன் அவனை அங்கே வெட்டி, தரையிலே தள்ளிப்போடவில்லை? நான் உனக்குப் பத்து வெள்ளிக்காசையும் ஒரு கச்சையையும் கொடுக்கக் கடமையுள்ளவனாயிருப்பேனே என்றான். And Joab said unto the man that told him, And, behold, thou sawest him, and why didst thou not smite him there to the ground? and I would have given thee ten shekels of silver, and a girdle.

12 அந்த மனுஷன் யோவாபை நோக்கி: என் கைகளில் ஆயிரம் வெள்ளிக்காசு நிறுத்துக் கொடுக்கப்பட்டாலும், நான் ராஜாவுடைய குமாரன்மேல் என் கையை நீட்டமாட்டேன்; பிள்ளையாண்டானாகிய அப்சலோமை நீங்கள் அவரவர் காப்பாற்றுங்கள் என்று ராஜா உமக்கும் அபிசாய்க்கும் ஈத்தாய்க்கும் எங்கள் காதுகள்கேட்கக் கட்டளையிட்டாரே. And the man said unto Joab, Though I should receive a thousand shekels of silver in mine hand, yet would I not put forth mine hand against the king's son: for in our hearing the king charged thee and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Beware that none touch the young man Absalom.

13 ராஜாவுக்கு ஒரு காரியமும் மறைவாயிருக்கமட்டாது, ஆதலால் நான் அதைச் செய்வேனாகில், என் பிராணனுக்கே விரோதமாகச் செய்பவனாவேன், நீரும் எனக்கு விரோதமாயிருப்பீர் என்றான். Otherwise I should have wrought falsehood against mine own life: for there is no matter hid from the king, and thou thyself wouldest have set thyself against me.

14 ஆதலால் யோவாப்: நான் இப்படி உன்னோடே பேசி, தாமதிக்கமாட்டேன் என்று சொல்லி, தன் கையிலே மூன்று வல்லயங்களை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு, அப்சலோம் இன்னும் கர்வாலிமரத்தின் நடுவிலே உயிரோடே தொங்குகையில், அவைகளை அவன் நெஞ்சிலே குத்தினான். Then said Joab, I may not tarry thus with thee. And he took three darts in his hand, and thrust them through the heart of Absalom, while he was yet alive in the midst of the oak.

15 அப்பொழுது யோவாபின் ஆயுததாரிகளாகிய பத்து சேவகர் அப்சலோமைச் சூழ்ந்து அவனை அடித்துக் கொன்றுபோட்டார்கள். And ten young men that bare Joab's armor compassed about and smote Absalom, and slew him.

16 அப்பொழுது யோவாப் எக்காளம்ஊதி ஜனங்களை நிறுத்திப்போட்டபடியினால், ஜனங்கள் இஸ்ரவேலைப் பின்தொடருகிறதை விட்டுத் திரும்பினார்கள். And Joab blew the trumpet, and the people returned from pursuing after Israel: for Joab held back the people.

17 அவர்கள் அப்சலோமை எடுத்து, அவனைக் காட்டிலுள்ள ஒரு பெரிய குழியிலே போட்டு, அவன்மேல் மகா பெரியகற்குவியலைக் குவித்தார்கள்; இஸ்ரவேலர் எல்லாரும் அவரவர் தங்கள் கூடாரங்களுக்கு ஓடிப்போனார்கள். And they took Absalom, and cast him into a great pit in the wood, and laid a very great heap of stones upon him: and all Israel fled every one to his tent.

Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and reared up for himself a pillar, which is in the king's dale: for he said, I have no son to keep my name in remembrance: and he called the pillar after his own name: and it is called unto this day, Absalom's place.

19 சாதோக்கின் குமாரனாகிய அகிமாஸ்: கர்த்தர் ராஜாவை அவர் சத்துருக்களின் கைக்கு நீங்கலாக்கி நியாயஞ்செய்தார் என்னும் செய்தியை அவருக்குக் கொண்டுபோக, நான் ஓடட்டுமே என்றான். Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok, Let me now run, and bear the king tidings, how that the LORD hath avenged him of his enemies.

20 யோவாப் அவனை நோக்கி: இன்றையதினம் நீ செய்தியைக் கொண்டுபோகக் கூடாது; இன்னொருநாளிலே நீ செய்தியைக் கொண்டுபோகலாம்; ராஜாவின் குமாரன் செத்தபடியினால், இன்றைக்கு நீ செய்தியைக் கொண்டுபோகவேண்டாம் என்று சொல்லி, And Joab said unto him, Thou shalt not bear tidings this day, but thou shalt bear tidings another day: but this day thou shalt bear no tidings, because the king's son is dead.

21 யோவாப் கூஷியை நோக்கி: நீ போய் கண்டதை ராஜாவுக்கு அறிவி என்றான்; கூஷி யோவாபை வணங்கி ஓடினான். Then said Joab to Cushy, Go tell the king what thou hast seen. And Cushy bowed himself unto Joab, and ran.

22 சாதோக்கின் குமாரனாகிய அகிமாஸ் இன்னும் யோவாபை நோக்கி: எப்படியானாலும் கூஷியின் பிறகாலே நானும் ஓடட்டுமே என்று திரும்பக் கேட்டதற்கு, யோவாப்: என் மகனே, சொல்லும்படிக்கு உனக்கு நல்லசெய்தி இல்லாதிருக்கையில், நீ ஓடவேண்டியது என்ன என்றான். Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok yet again to Joab, But howsoever, let me, I pray thee, also run after Cushy. And Joab said, Wherefore wilt thou run, my son, seeing that thou hast no tidings ready?

26 ஜாமங்காக்கிறவன், வேறொருவன் ஓடிவருகிறதைக் கண்டு: அதோ பின்னொருவன் தனியே ஓடிவருகிறான் என்று வாசல் காக்கிறவனோடே கூப்பிட்டுச்சொன்னான்: அப்பொழுது ராஜா: அவனும் நல்ல செய்தி கொண்டுவருகிறவன் என்றான். And the watchman saw another man running: and the watchman called unto the porter, and said, Behold another man running alone. And the king said, He also bringeth tidings.

27 மேலும் ஜாமங்காக்கிறவன் முந்தினவனுடைய ஓட்டம் சாதோக்கின் மகன் அகிமாசுடைய ஓட்டம்போலிக்கிறது என்று எனக்குத் தோன்றுகிறது என்றான்; அப்பொழுது ராஜா: அவன் நல்ல மனுஷன்; அவன் நல்ல செய்தி சொல்ல வருகிறான் என்றான். And the watchman said, Me thinketh the running of the foremost is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok. And the king said, He is a good man, and cometh with good tidings.

28 அகிமாஸ் வந்து ராஜாவை நோக்கி: சமாதானம் என்று சொல்லி, முகங்குப்புறவிழுந்து, ராஜாவை வணங்கி, ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவருக்கு விரோதமாய்த் தங்கள் கைகளை எடுத்த மனுஷரை ஒப்புக்கொடுத்திருக்கிற உம்முடைய தேவனாகிய கர்த்தருக்கு ஸ்தோத்திரம் உண்டாவதாக என்றான். And Ahimaaz called, and said unto the king, All is well. And he fell down to the earth upon his face before the king, and said, Blessed be the LORD thy God, which hath delivered up the men that lifted up their hand against my lord the king.

29 அப்பொழுது ராஜா: பிள்ளையாண்டானாகிய அப்சலோம் சுகமாயிருக்கிறானா என்று கேட்டதற்கு, அகிமாஸ் யோவாப் ராஜாவின் வேலைக்காரயும் உம்முடைய அடியானையும் அனுப்புகிறபோது, ஒருபெரிய சந்தடியிருந்தது; ஆனாலும் அது இன்னதென்று தெரியாது என்றான். And the king said, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Ahimaaz answered, When Joab sent the king's servant, and me thy servant, I saw a great tumult, but I knew not what it was.

30 அப்பொழுது ராஜா: நீ அங்கேபோய் நில் என்றான்; அவன் ஒரு பக்கத்தில் போய் நின்றான். And the king said unto him, Turn aside, and stand here. And he turned aside, and stood still.

31 இதோ, கூஷி வந்து: ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவனே, நற்செய்தி, இன்று கர்த்தர் உமக்கு விரோதமாய் எழும்பின எல்லாரின் கைக்கும் உம்மை நீங்கலாக்கி நியாயஞ்செய்தார் என்றான். And, behold, Cushy came; and Cushy said, Tidings, my lord the king: for the LORD hath avenged thee this day of all them that rose up against thee.

32 அப்பொழுது ராஜா கூஷியைப் பார்த்து: பிள்ளையாண்டானாகிய அப்சலோம் சுகமாயிருக்கிறானா என்று கேட்டதற்கு, கூஷி என்பவன்: அந்தப் பிள்ளையாண்டானுக்கு நடந்ததுபோல ராஜாவாகிய என் ஆண்டவனுடைய சத்துருக்களுக்கும், பொல்லாப்புச் செய்ய உமக்கு விரோதமாய் எழும்புகிற யாவருக்கும் நடக்கக்கடவது என்றான். And the king said unto Cushy, Is the young man Absalom safe? And Cushy answered, The enemies of my lord the king, and all that rise against thee to do thee hurt, be as that young man is.

33 அப்பொழுது ராஜா மிகவும் கலங்கி, கெவுனிவாசலின் மேல்வீட்டிற்குள் ஏறிப்போய் அழுதான்; அவன் ஏறிப்போகையில்: என் மகனாகிய அப்சலோமே, என் மகனே, என் மகனாகிய அப்சலோமே, நான் உனக்குப் பதிலாகச் செத்தேனானால் நலமாயிருக்கும்; அப்சலோமே, என் மகனே, என் மகனே, என்று சொல்லி அழுதான். And the king was much moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept: and as he went, thus he said, O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! would God I had died for thee, O Absalom, my son, my son!

1 David thannotiruntha janangalai ilakkam paarththu, avarkalmael aayiraththukku athipathikalaiyum, noottaுkku athipathikalaiyum vaiththu, And David numbered the people that were with him, and set captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds over them.

2 Pinpu David janangalil moontil oru pangai yovaapin vasamaakavum, moontil oru pangaich seruyaavin kumaaranum yovaapin sakotharanumaana apisaayin vasamaakavum, moontil oru pangaik kiththiyanaakiya eeththaayin vasamaakavum anuppi: naanum ungalotaekoodap purappattu varuvaen entu raajaa janangalidaththil sonnaan. 3 Janangalo: neer purappadavaenndaam; naangal murinthotipponaalum, avarkal engal kaariyaththai oruporuttaka ennnamaattarkal; engalil paathippaer seththupponaalum, engal kaariyaththaippattik kavalaippadamaattarkal; neero, engalil pathinaayirampaerukkuch sari; neer pattanaththil irunthukonndu, engalukku uthaviseykirathu engalukku nalamaayirukkum entarkal. 4 Appoluthu raajaa avarkalaippaarththu: ungalukku nalamaayth thontukirathaich seyvaen entu solli, raajaa olimukavaasal oraththilae nintan; janangal ellaarum nooraுnooraakavum, aayiram aayiramaakavum purappattarkal. And the king said unto them, What seemeth you best I will do. And the king stood by the gate side, and all the people came out by hundreds and by thousands.

5 Raajaa yovaapaiyum, apisaayaiyum, eeththaayaiyum Nnokki: pillaiyaanndaanaakiya apsalomai ennimiththam methuvaay nadappiyungal entu kattalaiyittan; ippati raajaa apsalomaikkuriththu athipathikalukkellaam kattalaiyittathai janangal ellaarum kaettirunthaarkal. And the king commanded Joab and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Deal gently for my sake with the young man, even with Absalom. And all the people heard when the king gave all the captains charge concerning Absalom.

6 Janangal veliyae isravaelarukku ethiraakap purappattapirpaadu, eppiraayeem kaattilae yuththam nadanthathu. So the people went out into the field against Israel: and the battle was in the wood of Ephraim;

7 Angae Israel janangal thaaveethin sevakarukku munpaaka muriya atikkappattarkal; angae antaiyathinam irupathinaayirampaer matiyaththakkathaaka periya sangaaram unndaayittaு. Where the people of Israel were slain before the servants of David, and there was there a great slaughter that day of twenty thousand men.

8 Yuththam antha thaesam engum paranthathu; antaiyathinam pattayam patchiththa janangalaippaarkkilum, kaadu patchiththa janam athikam. For the battle was there scattered over the face of all the country: and the wood devoured more people that day than the sword devoured.

9 Apsalom thaaveethin sevakarukku ethirppattan; apsalom kovaeraு kaluthaiyinmael aerivarumpothu, anthak kovaeraு kaluthai sannal pinnalaana oru periya karvaalimaraththin geelavanthathinaal, avanutaiya thalai karvaalimaraththil maattikkonndu, avan vaanaththukkum poomikkum naduvae thonginaan; avan aeriyiruntha kovaeraு kaluthai appaalae poyittaு. And Absalom met the servants of David. And Absalom rode upon a mule, and the mule went under the thick boughs of a great oak, and his head caught hold of the oak, and he was taken up between the heaven and the earth; and the mule that was under him went away.

10 Athai oruvan kanndu, yovaapukku ariviththu: itho, apsalomai oru karvaalimaraththilae thongakkanntaen entan. And a certain man saw it, and told Joab, and said, Behold, I saw Absalom hanged in an oak.

11 Appoluthu yovaap thanakku athai ariviththavanai Nnokki: nee athaik kanndaayae; pinnai, aen avanai angae vetti, tharaiyilae thallippodavillai? Naan unakkup paththu vellikkaasaiyum oru kachchaைyaiyum kodukkak kadamaiyullavanaayiruppaenae entan. And Joab said unto the man that told him, And, behold, thou sawest him, and why didst thou not smite him there to the ground? and I would have given thee ten shekels of silver, and a girdle.

12 Antha manushan yovaapai Nnokki: en kaikalil aayiram vellikkaasu niraுththuk kodukkappattalum, naan raajaavutaiya kumaaranmael en kaiyai neettamaattaேn; pillaiyaanndaanaakiya apsalomai neengal avaravar kaappaattaுngal entu raajaa umakkum apisaaykkum eeththaaykkum engal kaathukalkaetkak kattalaiyittarae. And the man said unto Joab, Though I should receive a thousand shekels of silver in mine hand, yet would I not put forth mine hand against the king's son: for in our hearing the king charged thee and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Beware that none touch the young man Absalom.

13 Raajaavukku oru kaariyamum maraivaayirukkamattathu, aathalaal naan athaich seyvaenaakil, en piraananukkae virothamaakach seypavanaavaen, neerum enakku virothamaayiruppeer entan. Otherwise I should have wrought falsehood against mine own life: for there is no matter hid from the king, and thou thyself wouldest have set thyself against me.

14 Aathalaal yovaap: naan ippati unnotae paesi, thaamathikkamaattaேn entu solli, than kaiyilae moontu vallayangalai eduththukkonndu, apsalom innum karvaalimaraththin naduvilae uyirotae thongukaiyil, avaikalai avan nenjilae kuththinaan. Then said Joab, I may not tarry thus with thee. And he took three darts in his hand, and thrust them through the heart of Absalom, while he was yet alive in the midst of the oak.

15 Appoluthu yovaapin aayuthathaarikalaakiya paththu sevakar apsalomaich soolnthu avanai atiththuk kontupottarkal. And ten young men that bare Joab's armor compassed about and smote Absalom, and slew him.

16 Appoluthu yovaap ekkaalamoothi janangalai niraுththippottapatiyinaal, janangal isravaelaip pinthodarukirathai vittuth thirumpinaarkal. And Joab blew the trumpet, and the people returned from pursuing after Israel: for Joab held back the people.

17 Avarkal apsalomai eduththu, avanaik kaattilulla oru periya kuliyilae pottu, avanmael makaa periyakarkuviyalaik kuviththaarkal; isravaelar ellaarum avaravar thangal koodaarangalukku otipponaarkal. And they took Absalom, and cast him into a great pit in the wood, and laid a very great heap of stones upon him: and all Israel fled every one to his tent.

18 Apsalom uyirotae irukkaiyil en paerai ninaikkappannnumpatiyaaka enakkuk kumaaran illai entu solli, raajaavin pallaththaakkilae thanakkentu oru thoonnai niraுththi anthath thoonukkuth than paeraith thariththirunthaan; athu innaalvaraikkum apsalomin ataiyaalam entu sollappadum. Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and reared up for himself a pillar, which is in the king's dale: for he said, I have no son to keep my name in remembrance: and he called the pillar after his own name: and it is called unto this day, Absalom's place.

Then said Ahimaaz the son of Zadok, Let me now run, and bear the king tidings, how that the LORD hath avenged him of his enemies.

And the watchman said, Me thinketh the running of the foremost is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok. And the king said, He is a good man, and cometh with good tidings.
