அப்பொழுது சவுல் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: நான் இஸ்ரவேல் கோத்திரங்களிலே சிறிதான பென்யமீன் கோத்திரத்தான் அல்லவா? பென்யமீன் கோத்திரத்துக் குடும்பங்களிலெல்லாம் என் குடும்பம் அற்பமானது அல்லவா? நீர் இப்படிப்பட்ட வார்த்தையை என்னிடத்தில் சொல்வானேன் என்றான்.

அதற்கு சவுல், “ஆனால் நான் பென்யமீன் கோத்திரத்தைச் சேர்ந்தவன். இதுதான் இஸ்ரவேலில் மிகவும் சிறிய கோத்திரம், இதில் எனது குடும்பத்தான் பென்யமீன் கோத்திரத்திரலே மிகவும் சிறியது. இவ்வாறிருக்க இஸ்ரவேல் என்னை விரும்புவதாக எப்படி சொல்கிறீர்?” என்று கேட்டான்.
