דְּבַר The word dābār יְהוָ֣ה׀ of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ʾăšer הָיָ֗ה came hāyâ אֶל unto ʾēl צְפַנְיָה֙ Zephaniah ṣĕpanyâ בֶּן the son bēn כּוּשִׁ֣י of Cushi, kûšî בֶן the son bēn גְּדַלְיָ֔ה of Gedaliah, gĕddalyâ בֶּן the son bēn אֲמַרְיָ֖ה of Amariah, ʾămaryâ בֶּן the son bēn חִזְקִיָּ֑ה of Hizkiah, ḥizqiyyâ בִּימֵ֛י in the days yôm יֹאשִׁיָּ֥הוּ of Josiah yōʾšiyyâ בֶן the son bēn אָמ֖וֹן of Amon, ʾāmôn מֶ֥לֶךְ king melek יְהוּדָֽה׃ of Judah. yĕhûdâ

אָסֹ֨ף I will utterly ʾāsap אָסֵ֜ף consume sûp כֹּ֗ל all kōl מֵעַ֛ל from off ʿal פְּנֵ֥י the land, pānîm הָאֲדָמָ֖ה ʾădāmâ נְאֻם saith nĕʾum יְהוָֽה׃ the Lord. yĕhōwâ

אָסֵ֨ף I will consume sûp אָדָ֜ם man ʾādām וּבְהֵמָ֗ה and beast; bĕhēmâ אָסֵ֤ף I will consume sûp עוֹף the fowls ʿôp הַשָּׁמַ֙יִם֙ of the heaven, šāmayim וּדְגֵ֣י and the fishes dāg הַיָּ֔ם of the sea, yām וְהַמַּכְשֵׁל֖וֹת and the stumblingblocks makšēlâ אֶת with ʾēt הָרְשָׁעִ֑ים the wicked; rāšāʿ וְהִכְרַתִּ֣י and I will cut off kārat אֶת ʾēt הָאָדָ֗ם man ʾādām מֵעַ֛ל from off ʿal פְּנֵ֥י pānîm הָאֲדָמָ֖ה the land, ʾădāmâ נְאֻם saith nĕʾum יְהוָֽה׃ the Lord. yĕhōwâ

וְנָטִ֤יתִי I will also stretch out nāṭâ יָדִי֙ mine hand yād עַל upon ʿal יְהוּדָ֔ה Judah, yĕhûdâ וְעַ֖ל and upon ʿal כָּל all kōl יוֹשְׁבֵ֣י the inhabitants yāšab יְרוּשָׁלִָ֑ם of Jerusalem; yĕrûšālaim וְהִכְרַתִּ֞י and I will cut off kārat מִן from min הַמָּק֤וֹם place, māqôm הַזֶּה֙ this ze אֶת ʾēt שְׁאָ֣ר the remnant šĕʾār הַבַּ֔עַל of Baal baʿal אֶת ʾēt שֵׁ֥ם the name šēm הַכְּמָרִ֖ים of the Chemarims kāmār עִם with ʿim הַכֹּהֲנִֽים׃ the priests; kōhēn

וְאֶת ʾēt הַמִּשְׁתַּחֲוִ֥ים And them that worship šāḥâ עַל upon ʿal הַגַּגּ֖וֹת the housetops; gāg לִצְבָ֣א the host ṣābāʾ הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם of heaven šāmayim וְאֶת ʾēt הַמִּֽשְׁתַּחֲוִים֙ and them that worship šāḥâ הַנִּשְׁבָּעִ֣ים that swear šābaʿ לַֽיהוָ֔ה by the Lord, yĕhōwâ וְהַנִּשְׁבָּעִ֖ים and that swear šābaʿ בְּמַלְכָּֽם׃ by Malcham; malkām

וְאֶת ʾēt הַנְּסוֹגִ֖ים And them that are turned back sûg מֵאַחֲרֵ֣י from ʾaḥar יְהוָ֑ה the Lord; yĕhōwâ וַאֲשֶׁ֛ר and that ʾăšer לֹֽא have not lōʾ בִקְשׁ֥וּ sought bāqaš אֶת ʾēt יְהוָ֖ה the Lord, yĕhōwâ וְלֹ֥א nor lōʾ דְרָשֻֽׁהוּ׃ inquired for him. dāraš

הַ֕ס Hold thy peace hāsâ מִפְּנֵ֖י at the presence pānîm אֲדֹנָ֣י of the Lord ʾădōnāy יְהוִ֑ה God: yĕhōwi כִּ֤י for kî קָרוֹב֙ at hand: qārôb י֣וֹם the day yôm יְהוָ֔ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ כִּֽי for kî הֵכִ֧ין hath prepared kûn יְהוָ֛ה the Lord yĕhōwâ זֶ֖בַח a sacrifice, zebaḥ הִקְדִּ֥ישׁ he hath bid qādaš קְרֻאָֽיו׃ his guests. qārāʾ

וְהָיָ֗ה And it shall come to pass hāyâ בְּיוֹם֙ in the day yôm זֶ֣בַח sacrifice, zebaḥ יְהוָ֔ה of the Lord's yĕhōwâ וּפָקַדְתִּ֥י that I will punish pāqad עַל ʿal הַשָּׂרִ֖ים the princes, śar וְעַל ʿal בְּנֵ֣י children, bēn הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ and the king's melek וְעַ֥ל ʿal כָּל and all kōl הַלֹּבְשִׁ֖ים such as are clothed lābaš מַלְבּ֥וּשׁ apparel. malbûš נָכְרִֽי׃ with strange nokrî

וּפָקַדְתִּ֗י also will I punish pāqad עַ֧ל ʿal כָּל all kōl הַדּוֹלֵ֛ג those that leap dālag עַל on ʿal הַמִּפְתָּ֖ן the threshold, miptān בַּיּ֣וֹם day yôm הַה֑וּא In the same hûʾ הַֽמְמַלְאִ֛ים which fill mālēʾ בֵּ֥ית houses bayit אֲדֹנֵיהֶ֖ם their masters' ʾādôn חָמָ֥ס with violence ḥāmās וּמִרְמָֽה׃ and deceit. mirmâ

וְהָיָה֩ And it shall come to pass hāyâ בַיּ֨וֹם day, yôm הַה֜וּא in that hûʾ נְאֻם saith nĕʾum יְהוָ֗ה the Lord, yĕhōwâ ק֤וֹל the noise qôl צְעָקָה֙ of a cry ṣaʿăqâ מִשַּׁ֣עַר gate, šaʿar הַדָּגִ֔ים from the fish dāg וִֽילָלָ֖ה and an howling yĕlālâ מִן from min הַמִּשְׁנֶ֑ה the second, mišne וְשֶׁ֥בֶר crashing šeber גָּד֖וֹל and a great gādôl מֵהַגְּבָעֽוֹת׃ from the hills. gibʿâ

הֵילִ֖ילוּ Howl, yālal יֹשְׁבֵ֣י ye inhabitants yāšab הַמַּכְתֵּ֑שׁ of Maktesh, maktēš כִּ֤י for kî נִדְמָה֙ are cut down; dāmâ כָּל all kōl עַ֣ם people ʿam כְּנַ֔עַן the merchant kĕnaʿan נִכְרְת֖וּ are cut off. kārat כָּל all kōl נְטִ֥ילֵי they that bear nĕṭîl כָֽסֶף׃ silver kesep

וְהָיָה֙ And it shall come to pass hāyâ בָּעֵ֣ת time, ʿēt הַהִ֔יא at that hûʾ אֲחַפֵּ֥שׂ I will search ḥāpaś אֶת ʾēt יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם Jerusalem yĕrûšālaim בַּנֵּר֑וֹת with candles, nîr וּפָקַדְתִּ֣י and punish pāqad עַל ʿal הָאֲנָשִׁ֗ים the men ʾîš הַקֹּֽפְאִים֙ that are settled qāpāʾ עַל on ʿal שִׁמְרֵיהֶ֔ם their lees: šemer הָאֹֽמְרִים֙ that say ʾāmar בִּלְבָבָ֔ם in their heart, lēbāb לֹֽא will not lōʾ יֵיטִ֥יב do good, yāṭab יְהוָ֖ה The Lord yĕhōwâ וְלֹ֥א neither lōʾ יָרֵֽעַ׃ will he do evil. rāʿaʿ

וְהָיָ֤ה shall become hāyâ חֵילָם֙ Therefore their goods ḥayil לִמְשִׁסָּ֔ה a booty, mĕšissâ וּבָתֵּיהֶ֖ם and their houses bayit לִשְׁמָמָ֑ה a desolation: šĕmāmâ וּבָנ֤וּ they shall also build bānâ בָתִּים֙ houses, bayit וְלֹ֣א but not lōʾ יֵשֵׁ֔בוּ inhabit yāšab וְנָטְע֣וּ and they shall plant nāṭaʿ כְרָמִ֔ים vineyards, kerem וְלֹ֥א but not lōʾ יִשְׁתּ֖וּ drink šātâ אֶת ʾēt יֵינָֽם׃ the wine thereof. yayin

קָר֤וֹב near, qārôb יוֹם day yôm יְהוָה֙ of the Lord yĕhōwâ הַגָּד֔וֹל The great gādôl קָר֖וֹב near, qārôb וּמַהֵ֣ר and hasteth mahēr מְאֹ֑ד greatly, mĕʾōd ק֚וֹל the voice qôl י֣וֹם of the day yôm יְהוָ֔ה of the Lord: yĕhōwâ מַ֥ר bitterly. mar צֹרֵ֖חַ shall cry ṣāraḥ שָׁ֥ם there šām גִּבּֽוֹר׃ the mighty man gibbôr

י֥וֹם day yôm עֶבְרָ֖ה of wrath, ʿebrâ הַיּ֣וֹם a day yôm הַה֑וּא That hûʾ י֧וֹם a day yôm צָרָ֣ה of trouble ṣārâ וּמְצוּקָ֗ה and distress, mĕṣûqâ י֤וֹם a day yôm שֹׁאָה֙ of wasteness šôʾ וּמְשׁוֹאָ֔ה and desolation, mĕšôʾâ י֥וֹם a day yôm חֹ֙שֶׁךְ֙ of darkness ḥōšek וַאֲפֵלָ֔ה and gloominess, ʾăpēlâ י֥וֹם a day yôm עָנָ֖ן of clouds ʿānān וַעֲרָפֶֽל׃ and thick darkness, ʿărāpel

י֥וֹם A day yôm שׁוֹפָ֖ר of the trumpet šôpār וּתְרוּעָ֑ה and alarm tĕrûʿâ עַ֚ל against ʿal הֶעָרִ֣ים cities, ʿîr הַבְּצֻר֔וֹת the fenced bāṣar וְעַ֖ל and against ʿal הַפִּנּ֥וֹת towers. pinnâ הַגְּבֹהֽוֹת׃ the high gābōah

וַהֲצֵרֹ֣תִי And I will bring distress ṣārar לָאָדָ֗ם upon men, ʾādām וְהָֽלְכוּ֙ that they shall walk hālak כַּֽעִוְרִ֔ים like blind men, ʿiwwēr כִּ֥י because kî לַֽיהוָ֖ה against the Lord: yĕhōwâ חָטָ֑אוּ they have sinned ḥāṭāʾ וְשֻׁפַּ֤ךְ shall be poured out šāpak דָּמָם֙ and their blood dām כֶּֽעָפָ֔ר as dust, ʿāpār וּלְחֻמָ֖ם and their flesh lāḥûm כַּגְּלָלִֽים׃ as the dung. gēlel

גַּם gam כַּסְפָּ֨ם their silver kesep גַּם nor gam זְהָבָ֜ם their gold zāhāb לֹֽא Neither lōʾ יוּכַ֣ל shall be able yākōl לְהַצִּילָ֗ם to deliver nāṣal בְּיוֹם֙ them in the day yôm עֶבְרַ֣ת wrath; ʿebrâ יְהוָ֔ה of the Lord's yĕhōwâ וּבְאֵשׁ֙ by the fire ʾēš קִנְאָת֔וֹ of his jealousy: qinʾâ תֵּאָכֵ֖ל shall be devoured ʾākal כָּל but the whole kōl הָאָ֑רֶץ land ʾereṣ כִּֽי for kî כָלָ֤ה riddance kālâ אַךְ even ʾak נִבְהָלָה֙ a speedy bāhal יַֽעֲשֶׂ֔ה he shall make ʿāśâ אֵ֥ת of ʾēt כָּל all kōl יֹשְׁבֵ֖י them that dwell yāšab הָאָֽרֶץ׃ in the land. ʾereṣ
