பேதுருவோ எழுந்திருந்து கல்லறையினிடத்திற்கு ஓடி, அதற்குள்ளே குனிந்துபார்க்கையில், சீலைகளைத் தனிப்பட வைத்திருக்கக்கண்டு, சம்பவித்ததைக் குறித்துத் தன்னில் ஆச்சரியப்பட்டுக்கொண்டுபோனான்.

ஆனால் பேதுரு எழுந்து அது உண்மையா எனப் பார்க்கக் கல்லறைக்கு ஓடினான். அவன் உள்ளே பார்த்து இயேசுவின் உடலைச் சுற்றி வைக்கப்பட்டிருந்த துணிகள் மட்டுமே கிடப்பதைக் கண்டான். இயேசுவைக் காணவில்லை. இயேசு சென்றுவிட்டிருந்தார். நடந்தவற்றைக் குறித்து ஆச்சரியப்பட்டவனாகப் பேதுரு தனித்திருக்க விரும்பிச் சென்றான்.
