וְעַתָּ֗ה And now ʿattâ הֲלֹ֥א not lōʾ בֹ֙עַז֙ Boaz bōʿaz מֹֽדַעְתָּ֔נוּ of our kindred, môdaʿat אֲשֶׁ֥ר whose ʾăšer הָיִ֖ית thou wast? hāyâ אֶת with ʾēt נַֽעֲרוֹתָ֑יו maidens naʿărâ הִנֵּה Behold, hinnē ה֗וּא he hûʾ זֹרֶ֛ה winnoweth zārâ אֶת in ʾēt גֹּ֥רֶן the threshingfloor. gōren הַשְּׂעֹרִ֖ים barley śĕʿōrâ הַלָּֽיְלָה׃ to night layil

וְרָחַ֣צְתְּ׀ Wash rāḥaṣ וָסַ֗כְתְּ thyself therefore, and anoint sûk וְשַׂ֧מְתְּ thee, and put śûm שִׂמְלֹתַ֛יִךְ thy raiment śimlâ עָלַ֖יִךְ upon ʿal וְיָרַ֣דְתְּי thee, and get thee down yārad הַגֹּ֑רֶן to the floor: gōren אַל ʾal תִּוָּֽדְעִ֣י make not thyself known yādaʿ לָאִ֔ישׁ unto the man, ʾîš עַ֥ד until ʿad כַּלֹּת֖וֹ he shall have done kālâ לֶֽאֱכֹ֥ל eating ʾākal וְלִשְׁתּֽוֹת׃ and drinking. šātâ

וִיהִ֣י And it shall be, hāyâ בְשָׁכְב֗וֹ when he lieth down, šākab וְיָדַ֙עַתְּ֙ that thou shalt mark yādaʿ אֶת ʾēt הַמָּקוֹם֙ the place māqôm אֲשֶׁ֣ר where ʾăšer יִשְׁכַּב he shall lie, šākab שָׁ֔ם šām וּבָ֛את and thou shalt go in, bôʾ וְגִלִּ֥ית and uncover gālâ מַרְגְּלֹתָ֖יו his feet, margĕlâ וְשָׁכָ֑בְתְּי and lay thee down; šākab וְהוּא֙ and he hûʾ יַגִּ֣יד will tell nāgad לָ֔ךְ אֵ֖ת thee ʾēt אֲשֶׁ֥ר what ʾăšer תַּֽעֲשִֽׂין׃ thou shalt do. ʿāśâ

וַתֹּ֖אמֶר And she said ʾāmar אֵלֶ֑יהָ unto ʾēl כֹּ֛ל her, All kōl אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer תֹּֽאמְרִ֥י thou sayest unto me ʾāmar אֶֽעֱשֶֽׂה׃ I will do. ʿāśâ

וַתֵּ֖רֶד And she went down yārad הַגֹּ֑רֶן unto the floor, gōren וַתַּ֕עַשׂ and did ʿāśâ כְּכֹ֥ל according to all kōl אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer צִוַּ֖תָּה bade her. ṣāwâ חֲמוֹתָֽהּ׃ her mother in law ḥămôt

וַיֹּ֨אכַל had eaten ʾākal בֹּ֤עַז And when Boaz bōʿaz וַיֵּשְׁתְּ֙ and drunk, šātâ וַיִּיטַ֣ב was merry, yāṭab לִבּ֔וֹ and his heart lēb וַיָּבֹ֕א he went bôʾ לִשְׁכַּ֖ב to lie down šākab בִּקְצֵ֣ה at the end qāṣe הָֽעֲרֵמָ֑ה of the heap of corn: ʿārēm וַתָּבֹ֣א and she came bôʾ בַלָּ֔ט softly, lāṭ וַתְּגַ֥ל and uncovered gālâ מַרְגְּלֹתָ֖יו his feet, margĕlâ וַתִּשְׁכָּֽב׃ and laid her down. šākab

וַֽיְהִי֙ And it came to pass hāyâ בַּֽחֲצִ֣י at midnight, ḥēṣî הַלַּ֔יְלָה layil וַיֶּֽחֱרַ֥ד was afraid, ḥārad הָאִ֖ישׁ that the man ʾîš וַיִּלָּפֵ֑ת and turned himself: lāpat וְהִנֵּ֣ה and, behold, hinnē אִשָּׁ֔ה a woman ʾiššâ שֹׁכֶ֖בֶת lay šākab מַרְגְּלֹתָֽיו׃ at his feet. margĕlâ

וַיֹּ֖אמֶר And he said, ʾāmar מִי Who mî אָ֑תּ thou? ʾattâ וַתֹּ֗אמֶר And she answered, ʾāmar אָֽנֹכִי֙ I ʾānōkî ר֣וּת Ruth rût אֲמָתֶ֔ךָ thine handmaid: ʾāmâ וּפָֽרַשְׂתָּ֤ spread pāraś כְנָפֶ֙ךָ֙ therefore thy skirt kānāp עַל over ʿal אֲמָ֣תְךָ֔ thine handmaid; ʾāmâ כִּ֥י for kî גֹאֵ֖ל a near kinsman. gāʾal אָֽתָּה׃ thou ʾattâ

וַיֹּ֗אמֶר And he said, ʾāmar בְּרוּכָ֨ה Blessed bārak אַ֤תְּ thou ʾattâ לַֽיהוָה֙ of the Lord, yĕhōwâ בִּתִּ֔י my daughter: bat הֵיטַ֛בְתְּ thou hast shewed more yāṭab חַסְדֵּ֥ךְ kindness ḥēsēd הָאַֽחֲר֖וֹן in the latter end ʾaḥărôn מִן than min הָֽרִאשׁ֑וֹן at the beginning, riʾšôn לְבִלְתִּי not biltî לֶ֗כֶת inasmuch as thou followedst hālak אַֽחֲרֵי֙ ʾaḥar הַבַּ֣חוּרִ֔ים young men, bāḥûr אִם whether ʾim דַּ֖ל poor dal וְאִם or ʾim עָשִֽׁיר׃ rich. ʿāšîr

וְעַתָּ֗ה And now, ʿattâ בִּתִּי֙ my daughter, bat אַל not; ʾal תִּ֣ירְאִ֔י fear yārēʾ כֹּ֥ל to thee all kōl אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer תֹּֽאמְרִ֖י thou requirest: ʾāmar אֶֽעֱשֶׂה I will do ʿāśâ לָּ֑ךְ כִּ֤י for kî יוֹדֵ֙עַ֙ doth know yādaʿ כָּל all kōl שַׁ֣עַר the city šaʿar עַמִּ֔י of my people ʿam כִּ֛י that kî אֵ֥שֶׁת woman. ʾiššâ חַ֖יִל thou a virtuous ḥayil אָֽתְּ׃ ʾattâ

לִ֣ינִי׀ Tarry lûn הַלַּ֗יְלָה this night, layil וְהָיָ֤ה and it shall be hāyâ בַבֹּ֙קֶר֙ in the morning, bōqer אִם if ʾim יִגְאָלֵ֥ךְ he will perform unto thee the part of a kinsman, gāʾal טוֹב֙ well; ṭôb יִגְאָ֔ל let him do the kinsman's part: gāʾal וְאִם but if ʾim לֹ֨א not lōʾ יַחְפֹּ֧ץ he will ḥāpēṣ לְגָֽאֳלֵ֛ךְ do the part of a kinsman gāʾal וּגְאַלְתִּ֥יךְ do the part of a kinsman gāʾal אָנֹ֖כִי to thee, then will I ʾānōkî חַי liveth: ḥay יְהוָ֑ה to thee, the Lord yĕhōwâ שִׁכְבִ֖י lie down šākab עַד until ʿad הַבֹּֽקֶר׃ the morning. bōqer

וַתִּשְׁכַּ֤ב And she lay šākab מַרְגְּלוֹתָו֙ at his feet margĕlâ עַד until ʿad הַבֹּ֔קֶר the morning: bōqer וַתָּ֕קָם and she rose up qûm בְּטֶ֛רֶוֹם before ṭĕrôm יַכִּ֥יר could know nākar אִ֖ישׁ one ʾîš אֶת ʾēt רֵעֵ֑הוּ another. rēaʿ וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ And he said, ʾāmar אַל Let it not ʾal יִוָּדַ֔ע be known yādaʿ כִּי that kî בָ֥אָה came bôʾ הָֽאִשָּׁ֖ה a woman ʾiššâ הַגֹּֽרֶן׃ into the floor. gōren

וַיֹּ֗אמֶר Also he said, ʾāmar הָ֠בִי Bring yāhab הַמִּטְפַּ֧חַת the vail miṭpaḥat אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer עָלַ֛יִךְ upon ʿal וְאֶֽחֳזִי thee, and hold ʾāḥaz בָ֖הּ וַתֹּ֣אחֶז it. And when she held ʾāḥaz בָּ֑הּ וַיָּ֤מָד it, he measured mādad שֵׁשׁ six šēš שְׂעֹרִים֙ of barley, śĕʿōrâ וַיָּ֣שֶׁת and laid šît עָלֶ֔יהָ on ʿal וַיָּבֹ֖א her: and she went into bôʾ הָעִֽיר׃ the city. ʿîr

וַתָּבוֹא֙ And when she came bôʾ אֶל to ʾēl חֲמוֹתָ֔הּ her mother in law, ḥămôt וַתֹּ֖אמֶר she said, ʾāmar מִי Who mî אַ֣תְּ thou, ʾattâ בִּתִּ֑י my daughter? bat וַתַּ֨גֶּד And she told nāgad לָ֔הּ אֵ֛ת her ʾēt כָּל all kōl אֲשֶׁ֥ר that ʾăšer עָֽשָׂה had done to her. ʿāśâ לָ֖הּ הָאִֽישׁ׃ the man ʾîš

וַתֹּ֕אמֶר And she said, ʾāmar שֵׁשׁ six šēš הַשְּׂעֹרִ֥ים of barley śĕʿōrâ הָאֵ֖לֶּה These ʾēlle נָ֣תַן gave nātan לִ֑י כִּ֚י he me; for kî אָמַ֣ר he said ʾāmar אַל unto ʾēl תָּב֥וֹאִי to me, Go bôʾ רֵיקָ֖ם empty rêqām אֶל not ʾal חֲמוֹתֵֽךְ׃ thy mother in law. ḥămôt

וַתֹּ֙אמֶר֙ Then said ʾāmar שְׁבִ֣י she, Sit still, yāšab בִתִּ֔י my daughter, bat עַ֚ד until ʿad אֲשֶׁ֣ר ʾăšer תֵּֽדְעִ֔ין thou know yādaʿ אֵ֖יךְ how ʾêk יִפֹּ֣ל will fall: nāpal דָּבָ֑ר the matter dābār כִּ֣י for kî לֹ֤א will not lōʾ יִשְׁקֹט֙ be in rest, šāqaṭ הָאִ֔ישׁ the man ʾîš כִּֽי kî אִם until ʾim כִּלָּ֥ה he have finished kālâ הַדָּבָ֖ר the thing dābār הַיּֽוֹם׃ this day. yôm
