ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਬਚਨ ਲਿਆ ਸੀ। ਮੇਰੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ ਸੀ, ‘ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਕਨਾਨੀ ਕੁੜੀ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਆਹ ਨਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੇਵੀਂ। ਅਸੀਂ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦਰਮਿਆਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਹਾਂ ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਕਨਾਨੀ ਕੁੜੀ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਆਹ ਕਰੇ।

ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਕੁੜੀਆਂ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਸਨ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਚੁਣੀ ਹੋਈ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਕੁੜੀ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ਾਦੀ ਕੀਤੀ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਨੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਉਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ, ਧਰਤੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਨੇਫ਼ਿਲੀਮ ਲੋਕ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ। ਉਹ ਮਸ਼ਹੂਰ ਲੋਕ ਸਨ। ਉਹ ਪੁਰਾਣੇ ਵੇਲਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਨਾਇੱਕ ਸਨ। ਫ਼ੇਰ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਲੋਕ ਤਾਂ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਹਨ; ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਤਮੇ ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਖਾਤਿਰ ਸਦਾ ਲਈ ਪਰੇਸ਼ਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ। ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ 120 ਵਰ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਵਾਂਗਾ।”

ਅਬਰਾਹਾਮ ਦਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਪੁਰਾਣਾ ਨੌਕਰ ਅਬਰਾਹਾਮ ਦੀ ਹਰ ਚੀਜ਼ ਦਾ ਨਿਗਾਹਬਾਨ ਸੀ। ਅਬਰਾਹਾਮ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੌਕਰ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੋਲ ਸੱਦ ਕੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਮੇਰੀ ਲੱਤ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੱਥ ਰੱਖ।

ਫ਼ੇਰ ਰਿਬਕਾਹ ਨੇ ਇਸਹਾਕ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਮੈਂ ਏਸਾਓ ਦੀਆਂ ਹਿੱਤੀ ਵਹੁਟੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਆਸ-ਪਾਸ ਰਹਿਣ ਤੋਂ ਨਫ਼ਰਤ ਕਰਦੀ ਹਾਂ। ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਸਾਡੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ। ਯਾਕੂਬ ਦੇ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਇੱਕ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ਾਦੀ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਚੰਗਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਮਰ ਜਾਵਾਂ।”

ਗੈਰ-ਯਹੂਦੀ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਆਹ ਜਦੋਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਇਹ ਕਾਰਜ ਕਰ ਚੁੱਕੇ, ਤਾਂ ਆਗੂਆਂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਆਣ ਕੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਹੇ ਅਜ਼ਰਾ! ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਜਾਜਕ ਅਤੇ ਲੇਵੀ ਸਾਡੇ ਦਰਮਿਆਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਖਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਸਗੋਂ ਉਹ, ਕਨਾਨੀਆਂ ਹਿੱਤੀਆਂ, ਫਰਿੱਜੀਆਂ, ਯਬੂਸੀਆਂ, ਅੰਮੋਨੀਆਂ, ਮੋਆਬੀਆਂ, ਮਿਸਰੀਆਂ, ਤੇ ਅਮੋਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਘਿਨਾਉਣੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਦੇ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
