וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר spake dābar יְהוָ֖ה And the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶל unto ʾēl מֹשֶׁ֥ה Moses, mōše לֵּאמֹֽר׃ saying, ʾāmar

דַּבֵּר֙ Speak dābar אֶֽל unto ʾēl אַהֲרֹ֔ן Aaron, ʾahărôn וְאָֽמַרְתָּ֖ and say ʾāmar אֵלָ֑יו unto ʾēl בְּהַעֲלֹֽתְךָ֙ him, When thou lightest ʿālâ אֶת ʾēt הַנֵּרֹ֔ת the lamps, nîr אֶל ʾēl מוּל֙ mûl פְּנֵ֣י over against pānîm הַמְּנוֹרָ֔ה the candlestick. mĕnôrâ יָאִ֖ירוּ shall give light ʾôr שִׁבְעַ֥ת the seven šebaʿ הַנֵּרֽוֹת׃ lamps nîr

וַיַּ֤עַשׂ did ʿāśâ כֵּן֙ so; kēn אַֽהֲרֹ֔ן And Aaron ʾahărôn אֶל ʾēl מוּל֙ thereof over against mûl פְּנֵ֣י pānîm הַמְּנוֹרָ֔ה the candlestick, mĕnôrâ הֶֽעֱלָ֖ה he lighted ʿālâ נֵֽרֹתֶ֑יהָ the lamps nîr כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֛ר as ʾăšer צִוָּ֥ה commanded ṣāwâ יְהוָ֖ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt מֹשֶֽׁה׃ Moses. mōše

וְזֶ֨ה And this ze מַֽעֲשֵׂ֤ה work maʿăśe הַמְּנֹרָה֙ of the candlestick mĕnôrâ מִקְשָׁ֣ה beaten miqšâ זָהָ֔ב gold, zāhāb עַד unto ʿad יְרֵכָ֥הּ the shaft yārēk עַד thereof, unto ʿad פִּרְחָ֖הּ the flowers peraḥ מִקְשָׁ֣ה thereof, beaten work: miqšâ הִ֑וא hûʾ כַּמַּרְאֶ֗ה according unto the pattern marʾe אֲשֶׁ֨ר which ʾăšer הֶרְאָ֤ה had shewed rāʾâ יְהוָה֙ the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt מֹשֶׁ֔ה Moses, mōše כֵּ֥ן so kēn עָשָׂ֖ה he made ʿāśâ אֶת ʾēt הַמְּנֹרָֽה׃ the candlestick. mĕnôrâ

וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר spake dābar יְהוָ֖ה And the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶל unto ʾēl מֹשֶׁ֥ה Moses, mōše לֵּאמֹֽר׃ saying, ʾāmar

קַ֚ח Take lāqaḥ אֶת ʾēt הַלְוִיִּ֔ם the Levites lēwiyyî מִתּ֖וֹךְ from among tāwek בְּנֵ֣י the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl וְטִֽהַרְתָּ֖ and cleanse them. ṭāhēr אֹתָֽם׃ ʾēt

וְכֹֽה And thus kō תַעֲשֶׂ֤ה shalt thou do ʿāśâ לָהֶם֙ לְטַֽהֲרָ֔ם unto them, to cleanse ṭāhēr הַזֵּ֥ה them: Sprinkle nāzâ עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם upon ʿal מֵ֣י water mayim חַטָּ֑את of purifying ḥaṭṭāʾâ וְהֶֽעֱבִ֤ירוּ ʿābar תַ֙עַר֙ them, and let them shave taʿar עַל ʿal כָּל all kōl בְּשָׂרָ֔ם their flesh, bāśār וְכִבְּס֥וּ and let them wash kābas בִגְדֵיהֶ֖ם their clothes, beged וְהִטֶּהָֽרוּ׃ and make themselves clean. ṭāhēr

וְלָֽקְחוּ֙ Then let them take lāqaḥ פַּ֣ר bullock par בֶּן a young bēn בָּקָ֔ר bāqār וּמִנְחָת֔וֹ with his meat offering, minḥâ סֹ֖לֶת fine flour sōlet בְּלוּלָ֣ה mingled bālal בַשָּׁ֑מֶן with oil, šemen וּפַר bullock par שֵׁנִ֥י and another šēnî בֶן young bēn בָּקָ֖ר bāqār תִּקַּ֥ח shalt thou take lāqaḥ לְחַטָּֽאת׃ for a sin offering. ḥaṭṭāʾâ

וְהִקְרַבְתָּ֙ And thou shalt bring qārab אֶת ʾēt הַלְוִיִּ֔ם the Levites lēwiyyî לִפְנֵ֖י before pānîm אֹ֣הֶל the tabernacle ʾōhel מוֹעֵ֑ד of the congregation: môʿēd וְהִ֨קְהַלְתָּ֔ and thou shalt gather together: qāhal אֶֽת ʾēt כָּל the whole kōl עֲדַ֖ת assembly ʿēdâ בְּנֵ֥י of the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ of Israel yiśrāʾēl

וְהִקְרַבְתָּ֥ And thou shalt bring qārab אֶת ʾēt הַלְוִיִּ֖ם the Levites lēwiyyî לִפְנֵ֣י before pānîm יְהוָ֑ה the Lord: yĕhōwâ וְסָֽמְכ֧וּ shall put sāmak בְנֵֽי and the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl אֶת ʾēt יְדֵיהֶ֖ם their hands yād עַל upon ʿal הַלְוִיִּֽם׃ the Levites: lēwiyyî

וְהֵנִיף֩ shall offer nûp אַֽהֲרֹ֨ן And Aaron ʾahărôn אֶת ʾēt הַלְוִיִּ֤ם the Levites lēwiyyî תְּנוּפָה֙ an offering tĕnûpâ לִפְנֵ֣י before pānîm יְהוָ֔ה the Lord yĕhōwâ מֵאֵ֖ת of ʾēt בְּנֵ֣י the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl וְהָי֕וּ hāyâ לַֽעֲבֹ֖ד that they may execute ʿābad אֶת ʾēt עֲבֹדַ֥ת the service ʿăbōdâ יְהוָֽה׃ of the Lord. yĕhōwâ

וְהַלְוִיִּם֙ And the Levites lēwiyyî יִסְמְכ֣וּ shall lay sāmak אֶת ʾēt יְדֵיהֶ֔ם their hands yād עַ֖ל upon ʿal רֹ֣אשׁ the heads rōš הַפָּרִ֑ים of the bullocks: par וַֽ֠עֲשֵׂה and thou shalt offer ʿāśâ אֶת ʾēt הָֽאֶחָ֨ד the one ʾeḥād חַטָּ֜את a sin offering, ḥaṭṭāʾâ וְאֶת ʾēt הָֽאֶחָ֤ד and the other ʾeḥād עֹלָה֙ a burnt offering, ʿōlâ לַֽיהוָ֔ה unto the Lord, yĕhōwâ לְכַפֵּ֖ר to make an atonement kāpar עַל for ʿal הַלְוִיִּֽם׃ the Levites. lēwiyyî

וְהַֽעֲמַדְתָּ֙ And thou shalt set ʿāmad אֶת ʾēt הַלְוִיִּ֔ם the Levites lēwiyyî לִפְנֵ֥י before pānîm אַֽהֲרֹ֖ן Aaron, ʾahărôn וְלִפְנֵ֣י and before pānîm בָנָ֑יו his sons, bēn וְהֵֽנַפְתָּ֥ and offer nûp אֹתָ֛ם ʾēt תְּנוּפָ֖ה them an offering tĕnûpâ לַֽיהוָֽה׃ unto the Lord. yĕhōwâ

וְהִבְדַּלְתָּ֙ Thus shalt thou separate bādal אֶת ʾēt הַלְוִיִּ֔ם the Levites lēwiyyî מִתּ֖וֹךְ from among tāwek בְּנֵ֣י the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel: yiśrāʾēl וְהָ֥יוּ shall be mine. hāyâ לִ֖י הַלְוִיִּֽם׃ and the Levites lēwiyyî

וְאַֽחֲרֵי And after ʾaḥar כֵן֙ that kēn יָבֹ֣אוּ go in bôʾ הַלְוִיִּ֔ם shall the Levites lēwiyyî לַֽעֲבֹ֖ד to do the service ʿābad אֶת ʾēt אֹ֣הֶל of the tabernacle ʾōhel מוֹעֵ֑ד of the congregation: môʿēd וְטִֽהַרְתָּ֣ and thou shalt cleanse ṭāhēr אֹתָ֔ם ʾēt וְהֵֽנַפְתָּ֥ them, and offer nûp אֹתָ֖ם ʾēt תְּנוּפָֽה׃ them an offering. tĕnûpâ

כִּי֩ For kî נְתֻנִ֨ים wholly given nātan נְתֻנִ֥ים nātan הֵ֙מָּה֙ they hēm לִ֔י מִתּ֖וֹךְ unto me from among tāwek בְּנֵ֣י the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel; yiśrāʾēl תַּחַת֩ instead of taḥat פִּטְרַ֨ת such as open peṭer כָּל every kōl רֶ֜חֶם womb, reḥem בְּכ֥וֹר the firstborn bĕkôr כֹּל֙ of all kōl מִבְּנֵ֣י the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl לָקַ֥חְתִּי have I taken them unto me. lāqaḥ אֹתָ֖ם ʾēt לִֽי׃

כִּ֣י For kî לִ֤י כָל all kōl בְּכוֹר֙ the firstborn bĕkôr בִּבְנֵ֣י of the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl בָּֽאָדָ֖ם mine, man ʾādām וּבַבְּהֵמָ֑ה and beast: bĕhēmâ בְּי֗וֹם on the day yôm הַכֹּתִ֤י that I smote nākâ כָל every kōl בְּכוֹר֙ firstborn bĕkôr בְּאֶ֣רֶץ in the land ʾereṣ מִצְרַ֔יִם of Egypt miṣrayim הִקְדַּ֥שְׁתִּי I sanctified them for myself. qādaš אֹתָ֖ם ʾēt לִֽי׃

וָֽאֶקַּ֖ח And I have taken lāqaḥ אֶת ʾēt הַלְוִיִּ֔ם the Levites lēwiyyî תַּ֥חַת for taḥat כָּל all kōl בְּכ֖וֹר the firstborn bĕkôr בִּבְנֵ֥י of the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ of Israel. yiśrāʾēl

וָֽאֶתְּנָ֨ה And I have given nātan אֶת ʾēt הַלְוִיִּ֜ם the Levites lēwiyyî נְתֻנִ֣ים׀ a gift nātan לְאַֽהֲרֹ֣ן to Aaron ʾahărôn וּלְבָנָ֗יו and to his sons bēn מִתּוֹךְ֮ from among tāwek בְּנֵ֣י the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵל֒ of Israel, yiśrāʾēl לַֽעֲבֹ֞ד to do ʿābad אֶת ʾēt עֲבֹדַ֤ת the service ʿăbōdâ בְּנֵֽי of the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ of Israel yiśrāʾēl בְּאֹ֣הֶל in the tabernacle ʾōhel מוֹעֵ֔ד of the congregation, môʿēd וּלְכַפֵּ֖ר and to make an atonement kāpar עַל for ʿal בְּנֵ֣י the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel: yiśrāʾēl וְלֹ֨א no lōʾ יִֽהְיֶ֜ה that there be hāyâ בִּבְנֵ֤י among the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ of Israel, yiśrāʾēl נֶ֔גֶף plague negep בְּגֶ֥שֶׁת come nigh nāgaš בְּנֵֽי when the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל of Israel yiśrāʾēl אֶל unto ʾēl הַקֹּֽדֶשׁ׃ the sanctuary. qōdeš

וַיַּ֨עַשׂ did ʿāśâ מֹשֶׁ֧ה And Moses, mōše וְאַֽהֲרֹ֛ן and Aaron, ʾahărôn וְכָל and all kōl עֲדַ֥ת the congregation ʿēdâ בְּנֵֽי of the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל of Israel, yiśrāʾēl לַלְוִיִּ֑ם to the Levites lēwiyyî כְּ֠כֹל according unto all kōl אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer צִוָּ֨ה commanded ṣāwâ יְהוָ֤ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt מֹשֶׁה֙ Moses mōše לַלְוִיִּ֔ם concerning the Levites, lēwiyyî כֵּן so kēn עָשׂ֥וּ did ʿāśâ לָהֶ֖ם בְּנֵ֥י the children bēn יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ of Israel unto them. yiśrāʾēl

וַיִּֽתְחַטְּא֣וּ were purified, ḥāṭāʾ הַלְוִיִּ֗ם And the Levites lēwiyyî וַֽיְכַבְּסוּ֙ and they washed kābas בִּגְדֵיהֶ֔ם their clothes; beged וַיָּ֨נֶף offered nûp אַֽהֲרֹ֥ן and Aaron ʾahărôn אֹתָ֛ם ʾēt תְּנוּפָ֖ה them an offering tĕnûpâ לִפְנֵ֣י before pānîm יְהוָ֑ה the Lord; yĕhōwâ וַיְכַפֵּ֧ר made an atonement kāpar עֲלֵיהֶ֛ם for ʿal אַֽהֲרֹ֖ן and Aaron ʾahărôn לְטַֽהֲרָֽם׃ them to cleanse them. ṭāhēr

וְאַֽחֲרֵי And after ʾaḥar כֵ֞ן that kēn בָּ֣אוּ went bôʾ הַלְוִיִּ֗ם the Levites lēwiyyî לַֽעֲבֹ֤ד in to do ʿābad אֶת ʾēt עֲבֹֽדָתָם֙ their service ʿăbōdâ בְּאֹ֣הֶל in the tabernacle ʾōhel מוֹעֵ֔ד of the congregation môʿēd לִפְנֵ֥י before pānîm אַֽהֲרֹ֖ן Aaron, ʾahărôn וְלִפְנֵ֣י and before pānîm בָנָ֑יו his sons: bēn כַּֽאֲשֶׁר֩ as ʾăšer צִוָּ֨ה had commanded ṣāwâ יְהוָ֤ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶת ʾēt מֹשֶׁה֙ Moses mōše עַל concerning ʿal הַלְוִיִּ֔ם the Levites, lēwiyyî כֵּ֖ן so kēn עָשׂ֥וּ did they unto them. ʿāśâ לָהֶֽם׃

וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר spake dābar יְהוָ֖ה And the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶל unto ʾēl מֹשֶׁ֥ה Moses, mōše לֵּאמֹֽר׃ saying, ʾāmar

זֹ֖את This zōt אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer לַלְוִיִּ֑ם unto the Levites: lēwiyyî מִבֶּן֩ old bēn חָמֵ֨שׁ and five ḥāmēš וְעֶשְׂרִ֤ים from twenty ʿeśrîm שָׁנָה֙ years šāne וָמַ֔עְלָה and upward maʿal יָבוֹא֙ they shall go in bôʾ לִצְבֹ֣א to wait upon ṣābāʾ צָבָ֔א ṣābāʾ בַּֽעֲבֹדַ֖ת the service ʿăbōdâ אֹ֥הֶל of the tabernacle ʾōhel מוֹעֵֽד׃ of the congregation: môʿēd

וּמִבֶּן֙ And from the age bēn חֲמִשִּׁ֣ים of fifty ḥămiššîm שָׁנָ֔ה years šāne יָשׁ֖וּב they shall cease šûb מִצְּבָ֣א waiting ṣābāʾ הָֽעֲבֹדָ֑ה upon the service ʿăbōdâ וְלֹ֥א no lōʾ יַֽעֲבֹ֖ד and shall serve ʿābad עֽוֹד׃ more: ʿôd

וְשֵׁרֵ֨ת But shall minister šārat אֶת with ʾēt אֶחָ֜יו their brethren ʾāḥ בְּאֹ֤הֶל in the tabernacle ʾōhel מוֹעֵד֙ of the congregation, môʿēd לִשְׁמֹ֣ר to keep šāmar מִשְׁמֶ֔רֶת the charge, mišmeret וַֽעֲבֹדָ֖ה service. ʿăbōdâ לֹ֣א no lōʾ יַֽעֲבֹ֑ד and shall do ʿābad כָּ֛כָה Thus kākâ תַּֽעֲשֶׂ֥ה shalt thou do ʿāśâ לַלְוִיִּ֖ם unto the Levites lēwiyyî בְּמִשְׁמְרֹתָֽם׃ touching their charge. mišmeret
