ആകയാൽ ഞാൻ സന്തോഷത്തെ പ്രശംസിച്ചു; തിന്നു കുടിച്ചു സന്തോഷിക്കുന്നതല്ലാതെ മനുഷ്യന്നു സൂര്യന്റെ കീഴിൽ മറ്റൊരു നന്മയുമില്ലല്ലോ; ദൈവം സൂര്യന്റെ കീഴിൽ അവന്നു നല്കുന്ന ആയുഷ്കാലത്തു അവന്റെ പ്രയത്നത്തിൽ അവനോടുകൂടെ നിലനില്ക്കുന്നതു ഇതുമാത്രമേയുള്ളു.

Then I commended mirth, because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be merry: for that shall abide with him of his labour the days of his life, which God giveth him under the sun.

a man לָֽאָדָם֙ ʾādām ah-DAHM
under תַּ֣חַת taḥat ta-HAHT
the sun, הַשֶּׁ֔מֶשׁ šemeš sheh-MESH
than כִּ֛י kee
אִם ʾim eem
to eat, לֶאֱכֹ֥ל ʾākal ah-HAHL
and to drink, וְלִשְׁתּ֖וֹת šātâ sha-TA
and to be merry: וְלִשְׂמ֑וֹחַ śāmaḥ sa-MAHK
for that וְה֞וּא hûʾ hoo
shall abide יִלְוֶ֣נּוּ lāwâ la-VA
with him of his labour בַעֲמָל֗וֹ ʿāmāl ah-MAHL
the days יְמֵ֥י yôm yome
of his life, חַיָּ֛יו ḥay hai
which אֲשֶׁר ʾăšer uh-SHER
giveth נָֽתַן nātan na-TAHN

God הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים ʾĕlōhîm ay-loh-HEEM
