Judges 9
1 അനന്തരം യെരുബ്ബാലിന്റെ മകനായ അബീമേലെക്ക് ശെഖേമിൽ തന്റെ അമ്മയുടെ സഹോദരന്മാരുടെ അടുക്കൽ ചെന്നു അവരോടും തന്റെ അമ്മയുടെ പിതൃഭവനമായ സർവ്വകുടുംബത്തോടും സംസാരിച്ചു:
2 യെരുബ്ബാലിന്റെ എഴുപതു പുത്രന്മാരുംകൂടെ നിങ്ങളെ ഭരിക്കുന്നതോ ഒരുത്തൻ നിങ്ങളെ ഭരിക്കുന്നതോ നിങ്ങൾക്കു ഏതു നല്ലതു? ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളുടെ അസ്ഥിയും മാംസവും ആകുന്നു എന്നു ഓർത്തുകൊൾവിൻ എന്നു ശെഖേമിലെ സകലപൌരന്മാരോടും പറവിൻ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
3 അങ്ങനെ അവന്റെ അമ്മയുടെ സഹോദരന്മാർ ശെഖേമിലെ സകലപൌരന്മാരോടും ഈ വാക്കുകളൊക്കെയും അവന്നു വേണ്ടി സംസാരിച്ചപ്പോൾ അവരുടെ ഹൃദയം അബീമേലെക്കിങ്കൽ ചാഞ്ഞു: അവൻ നമ്മുടെ സഹോദരനല്ലോ എന്നു അവർ പറഞ്ഞു.
4 പിന്നെ അവർ ബാൽബെരീത്തിന്റെ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽനിന്നു എഴുപതു വെള്ളിക്കാശു എടുത്തു അവന്നു കൊടുത്തു; അതിനെക്കൊണ്ടു അബീമേലെക്ക് തുമ്പുകെട്ടവരും നിസ്സാരന്മാരുമായ ആളുകളെ കൂലിക്കു വാങ്ങി അവർക്കു നായകനായ്തീർന്നു.
5 അവൻ ഒഫ്രയിൽ തന്റെ അപ്പന്റെ വീട്ടിൽ ചെന്നു യെരുബ്ബാലിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരായി തന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരായ എഴുപതുപേരെയും ഒരു കല്ലിന്മേൽ വെച്ചു കൊന്നു; എന്നാൽ യെരുബ്ബാലിന്റെ ഇളയമകനായ യോഥാം ഒളിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞതുകൊണ്ടു ശേഷിച്ചു.
6 അതിന്റെ ശേഷം ശെഖേമിലെ സകല പൌരന്മാരും മില്ലോഗൃഹമൊക്കെയും ഒരുമിച്ചുകൂടി ചെന്നു ശെഖേമിലെ ജ്ഞാപകസ്തംഭത്തിന്നരികെയുള്ള കരുവേലകത്തിങ്കൽവെച്ചു അബീമേലെക്കിനെ രാജാവാക്കി.
1 And Abimelech the son of Jerubbaal went to Shechem unto his mother’s brethren, and communed with them, and with all the family of the house of his mother’s father, saying,
2 Speak, I pray you, in the ears of all the men of Shechem, Whether is better for you, either that all the sons of Jerubbaal, which are threescore and ten persons, reign over you, or that one reign over you? remember also that I am your bone and your flesh.
3 And his mother’s brethren spake of him in the ears of all the men of Shechem all these words: and their hearts inclined to follow Abimelech; for they said, He is our brother.
4 And they gave him threescore and ten pieces of silver out of the house of Baal-berith, wherewith Abimelech hired vain and light persons, which followed him.
5 And he went unto his father’s house at Ophrah, and slew his brethren the sons of Jerubbaal, being threescore and ten persons, upon one stone: notwithstanding yet Jotham the youngest son of Jerubbaal was left; for he hid himself.
6 And all the men of Shechem gathered together, and all the house of Millo, and went, and made Abimelech king, by the plain of the pillar that was in Shechem.
