Proverbs 1
1 ઇસ્રાએલના રાજા દાઉદના પુત્ર સુલેમાનનાં નીતિવચનો:
2 વ્યકિત માટે આ પુસ્તકનો હેતુ છે કે તે જ્ઞાન અને શિક્ષણ મેળવે, જેનાથી તે ઊંડી સમજ આપે તેવા શબ્દો સમજી શકે.
3 કે તેને વિચાર પૂર્વકની વર્તણૂકની, સારા વિવેકની અને ન્યાયની કેળવણી મળે.
4 ભોળા માણસો ચતુર બને, યુવાનોને જ્ઞાન તથા વિવેકબુદ્ધિ મળે.
5 જો ડાહ્યો માણસ સાંભળશે તો તેનું ડહાપણ વધશે. અને સમજુ માણસને દોરવણી મળે.
6 તેઓ કહેવતો અને ષ્ટાંતો જ્ઞાનીઓના વચનો અને તેમના કોયડાઓ પણ સમજી શકશે.
7 યહોવાનો ભય એ જ્ઞાનનો આરંભ છે. પણ મૂખોર્ જ્ઞાન અને શિક્ષણને વ્યર્થ ગણે છે.

2 To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;
3 To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;
4 To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.
5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:
6 To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.
7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
