நான் தூணாக நிறுத்தின இந்தக் கல் தேவனுக்கு வீடாகும்; தேவரீர் எனக்குத் தரும் எல்லாவற்றிலும் உமக்குத் தசமபாகம் செலுத்துவேன் என்று சொல்லிப் பொருத்தனைபண்ணிக்கொண்டான்.

அவர்கள் எதிர்த்து நின்று பவுலுக்கு எதிராகப் பேசினபோது, அவன் தன் ஆடைகளை உதறி: உங்களுடைய இரத்தபழி உங்களுடைய தலையின்மேல் இருக்கும்; நான் சுத்தமாக இருக்கிறேன்; இனி நான் யூதர்களல்லாதவரிடத்திற்கு போவேன் என்று அவர்களுக்குச் சொல்லி,

ஆனால் யூதர்கள் பவுலின் போதனையை ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளவில்லை. சில புண்படுத்தும் வார்த்தைகளை யூதர்கள் கூறினர். எனவே பவுல் உடையிலிருந்த தூசியை உதறினான். அவன் யூதரை நோக்கி, “நீங்கள் இரட்சிக்கப்படாவிட்டால் அது உங்களின் தவறுதான்! நான் என்னால் முடிந்ததைச் செய்துவிட்டேன்! இதன் பிறகு, நான் யூதரல்லாத மக்களிடம் மட்டுமே செல்வேன்!” என்றான்.
