שַׁלַּ֥ח Cast šālaḥ לַחְמְךָ֖ thy bread leḥem עַל ʿal פְּנֵ֣י upon pānîm הַמָּ֑יִם the waters: mayim כִּֽי for kî בְרֹ֥ב it after many rōb הַיָּמִ֖ים days. yôm תִּמְצָאֶֽנּוּ׃ thou shalt find māṣāʾ

תֶּן Give nātan חֵ֥לֶק a portion ḥēleq לְשִׁבְעָ֖ה to seven, šebaʿ וְגַ֣ם and also gam לִשְׁמוֹנָ֑ה to eight; šĕmōne כִּ֚י for kî לֹ֣א not lōʾ תֵדַ֔ע thou knowest yādaʿ מַה what mâ יִּהְיֶ֥ה shall be hāyâ רָעָ֖ה evil raʿ עַל upon ʿal הָאָֽרֶץ׃ the earth. ʾereṣ

אִם If ʾim יִמָּלְא֨וּ be full mālēʾ הֶעָבִ֥ים the clouds ʿāb גֶּ֙שֶׁם֙ of rain, gešem עַל upon ʿal הָאָ֣רֶץ the earth: ʾereṣ יָרִ֔יקוּ they empty rûq וְאִם and if ʾim יִפּ֥וֹל fall nāpal עֵ֛ץ the tree ʿēṣ בַּדָּר֖וֹם toward the south, dārôm וְאִ֣ם or ʾim בַּצָּפ֑וֹן toward the north, ṣāpôn מְק֛וֹם in the place māqôm שֶׁיִּפּ֥וֹל falleth, nāpal הָעֵ֖ץ where the tree ʿēṣ שָׁ֥ם there šām יְהֽוּא׃ it shall be. hāwāʾ

שֹׁמֵ֥ר He that observeth šāmar ר֖וּחַ the wind rûaḥ לֹ֣א shall not lōʾ יִזְרָ֑ע sow; zāraʿ וְרֹאֶ֥ה and he that regardeth rāʾâ בֶעָבִ֖ים the clouds ʿāb לֹ֥א shall not lōʾ יִקְצֽוֹר׃ reap. qāṣar

כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר As ʾăšer אֵֽינְךָ֤ not ʾayin יוֹדֵ֙עַ֙ thou knowest yādaʿ מַה what mâ דֶּ֣רֶךְ the way derek הָר֔וּחַ of the spirit, rûaḥ כַּעֲצָמִ֖ים how the bones ʿeṣem בְּבֶ֣טֶן in the womb beṭen הַמְּלֵאָ֑ה of her that is with child: mālēʾ כָּ֗כָה even so kākâ לֹ֤א not lōʾ תֵדַע֙ thou knowest yādaʿ אֶת ʾēt מַעֲשֵׂ֣ה the works maʿăśe הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים of God ʾĕlōhîm אֲשֶׁ֥ר who ʾăšer יַעֲשֶׂ֖ה maketh ʿāśâ אֶת all. ʾēt הַכֹּֽל׃ kōl

בַּבֹּ֙קֶר֙ In the morning bōqer זְרַ֣ע sow zāraʿ אֶת ʾēt זַרְעֶ֔ךָ thy seed, zeraʿ וְלָעֶ֖רֶב and in the evening ʿereb אַל not ʾal תַּנַּ֣ח withhold yānaḥ יָדֶ֑ךָ thine hand: yād כִּי֩ for kî אֵֽינְךָ֙ not ʾayin יוֹדֵ֜ע thou knowest yādaʿ אֵ֣י whether ʾay זֶ֤ה ze יִכְשָׁר֙ shall prosper, kāšēr הֲזֶ֣ה either this ze אוֹ or ʾô זֶ֔ה that, ze וְאִם or whether ʾim שְׁנֵיהֶ֥ם they both šĕnayim כְּאֶחָ֖ד alike ʾeḥād טוֹבִֽים׃ good. ṭôb

וּמָת֖וֹק sweet, mātôq הָא֑וֹר Truly the light ʾôr וְט֥וֹב and a pleasant ṭôb לַֽעֵינַ֖יִם for the eyes ʿayin לִרְא֥וֹת to behold rāʾâ אֶת ʾēt הַשָּֽׁמֶשׁ׃ the sun: šemeš

כִּ֣י But kî אִם if ʾim שָׁנִ֥ים years, šāne הַרְבֵּ֛ה many rābâ יִחְיֶ֥ה live ḥāyâ הָאָדָ֖ם a man ʾādām בְּכֻלָּ֣ם in them all; kōl יִשְׂמָ֑ח rejoice śāmaḥ וְיִזְכֹּר֙ yet let him remember zākar אֶת ʾēt יְמֵ֣י the days yôm הַחֹ֔שֶׁךְ of darkness; ḥōšek כִּֽי for kî הַרְבֵּ֥ה many. rābâ יִהְי֖וּ they shall be hāyâ כָּל All kōl שֶׁבָּ֥א that cometh bôʾ הָֽבֶל׃ vanity. hebel

שְׂמַ֧ח Rejoice, śāmaḥ בָּח֣וּר O young man, bāḥûr בְּיַלְדוּתֶ֗יךָ in thy youth; yaldût וִֽיטִֽיבְךָ֤ cheer yāṭab לִבְּךָ֙ and let thy heart lēb בִּימֵ֣י thee in the days yôm בְחוּרוֹתֶ֔יךָ of thy youth, bĕḥurôt וְהַלֵּךְ֙ and walk hālak בְּדַרְכֵ֣י in the ways derek לִבְּךָ֔ of thine heart, lēb וּבְמַרְאֵ֖י and in the sight marʾe עֵינֶ֑יךָ of thine eyes: ʿayin וְדָ֕ע but know yādaʿ כִּ֧י thou, that kî עַל for ʿal כָּל all kōl אֵ֛לֶּה these ʾēlle יְבִֽיאֲךָ֥ will bring bôʾ הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים God ʾĕlōhîm בַּמִּשְׁפָּֽט׃ thee into judgment. mišpāṭ

וְהָסֵ֥ר Therefore remove sûr כַּ֙עַס֙ sorrow kaʿas מִלִּבֶּ֔ךָ from thy heart, lēb וְהַעֲבֵ֥ר and put away ʿābar רָעָ֖ה evil raʿ מִבְּשָׂרֶ֑ךָ from thy flesh: bāśār כִּֽי for kî הַיַּלְד֥וּת childhood yaldût וְהַֽשַּׁחֲר֖וּת and youth šaḥărût הָֽבֶל׃ vanity. hebel
