திரும்பப் பெலிஸ்தரோடு யுத்தமுண்டாகிறபோது, யாவீரின் குமாரனாகிய எல்க்கானான் காத்தூரானாகிய கோலியாத்தின் சகோதரனான லாகேமியைக் கொன்றான்; அவன் ஈட்டித் தாங்கு நெய்கிறவர்களின் படைமரம் அவ்வளவு பெரிதாயிருந்தது.

இன்னொரு தடவை, மீண்டும் இஸ்ரவேலர்கள் பெலிஸ்தர்களோடு போரிட்டனர். யாவீரின் மகன் எல்க்கானான். இவன் லாகேமியைக் கொன்றான். லாகெமி கோலியாத்தின் சகோதரன். கோலியாத் காத் நகரைச் சேர்ந்தவன். லாகேமியின் ஈட்டி மிகப் பெரிதாகவும் பலமானதாகவும் இருந்தது. அது தாங்கு நெய்கிறவர்களின் படைமரம் போல் இருந்தது.
