James 4
1 তোমাদের মধ্যে ঝগড়া-বিবাদ কোথা থেকে আসে তা কি তোমরা জান? তোমাদের দেহের মধ্যে য়ে সব স্বার্থপর লালসা যুদ্ধ করছে, সেই সবের মধ্য থেকেই আসে৷
2 তোমরা কিছু চাও কিন্তু তা পাও না, তখন খুন কর ও অপরকে হিংসা কর৷ কিন্তু তবুও তা পেতে পারো না, তাই তোমরা ঝগড়া কর, মারামারি কর৷ তোমরা যা চাও, তা পাও না, কারণ তোমরা ঈশ্বরের কাছে চাও না৷
3 অথবা চাইলেও পাও না কারণ তোমরা অসত্ উদ্দেশ্য নিয়ে চাও৷ তোমরা কেবল নিজেদের ভোগ বিলাসে ব্যবহারের জন্য জিনিস চাও৷
4 সুতরাং তোমরা ঈশ্বরের প্রতি বিশ্বস্ত নও৷ তোমাদের জানা উচিত য়ে জাগতিক বস্তুগুলিকে ভালবাসার অর্থ হল ঈশ্বরকে ঘৃণা করা৷ তাই য়ে কেউ জগতের বন্ধু হতে চায় সে ঈশ্বরের শত্রু হয়ে ওঠে৷
5 তোমরা কি মনে কর য়ে শাস্ত্রের এইসব কথা অর্থহীন? শাস্ত্র বলে, ‘ঈশ্বর য়ে আত্মাকে আমাদের অন্তরে বাস করতে দিয়েছেন, তা চায় য়েন আমরা শুধু তাঁরই হই৷’
6 কিন্তু ঈশ্বরের অনুগ্রহদান তার থেকেও বড় বিষয়৷ তাই শাস্ত্রে লেখা আছে: ‘ঈশ্বর অহঙ্কারীদের প্রতিরোধ করেন, কিন্তু যাঁরা নম্র তিনি তাদের অনুগ্রহ প্রদান করেন৷’
7 তাই তোমরা নিজেদের ঈশ্বরের কাছে সঁপে দাও৷ দিয়াবলের বিরুদ্ধে রুখে দাঁড়াও, তাহলে সে তোমাদের ছেড়ে পালিয়ে যাবে৷
8 তোমরা ঈশ্বরের নিকটবর্তী হও, তাতে তিনিও তোমাদের নিকটবর্তী হবেন৷ পাপীরা, তোমাদের জীবন থেকে পাপ দূর করো৷ তোমরা একই সাথে ঈশ্বরের ও জগতের সেবা করতে চেষ্টা করছ৷ তোমাদের অন্তঃকরণ পবিত্র কর৷
9 তোমরা শোক কর, দুঃখে ভেঙ্গে পড় ও কাঁদ, তোমাদের হাসি কান্নায় পরিণত হোক্, আর আনন্দ, বিষাদে পরিণত হোক্৷
10 তোমরা প্রভুর সামনে নত হও, তাহলে তিনি তোমাদের উন্নীত করবেন৷
1 From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?
2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
5 Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

1 তোমাদের মধ্যে ঝগড়া-বিবাদ কোথা থেকে আসে তা কি তোমরা জান? তোমাদের দেহের মধ্যে য়ে সব স্বার্থপর লালসা যুদ্ধ করছে, সেই সবের মধ্য থেকেই আসে৷

2 তোমরা কিছু চাও কিন্তু তা পাও না, তখন খুন কর ও অপরকে হিংসা কর৷ কিন্তু তবুও তা পেতে পারো না, তাই তোমরা ঝগড়া কর, মারামারি কর৷ তোমরা যা চাও, তা পাও না, কারণ তোমরা ঈশ্বরের কাছে চাও না৷

5 তোমরা কি মনে কর য়ে শাস্ত্রের এইসব কথা অর্থহীন? শাস্ত্র বলে, ‘ঈশ্বর য়ে আত্মাকে আমাদের অন্তরে বাস করতে দিয়েছেন, তা চায় য়েন আমরা শুধু তাঁরই হই৷’
Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
6 কিন্তু ঈশ্বরের অনুগ্রহদান তার থেকেও বড় বিষয়৷ তাই শাস্ত্রে লেখা আছে: ‘ঈশ্বর অহঙ্কারীদের প্রতিরোধ করেন, কিন্তু যাঁরা নম্র তিনি তাদের অনুগ্রহ প্রদান করেন৷’
But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
7 তাই তোমরা নিজেদের ঈশ্বরের কাছে সঁপে দাও৷ দিয়াবলের বিরুদ্ধে রুখে দাঁড়াও, তাহলে সে তোমাদের ছেড়ে পালিয়ে যাবে৷
