וְהִנֵּ֣ה׀ And, behold, hinnē אִ֣ישׁ a man ʾîš אֱלֹהִ֗ים of God ʾĕlōhîm בָּ֧א there came bôʾ מִֽיהוּדָ֛ה out of Judah yĕhûdâ בִּדְבַ֥ר by the word dābār יְהוָ֖ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶל unto ʾēl בֵּֽית אֵ֑ל Beth-el: bêt ʾēl וְיָֽרָבְעָ֛ם and Jeroboam yorobʿām עֹמֵ֥ד stood ʿāmad עַל by ʿal הַמִּזְבֵּ֖חַ the altar mizbēaḥ לְהַקְטִֽיר׃ to burn incense. qāṭar

וַיִּקְרָ֤א And he cried qārāʾ עַל against ʿal הַמִּזְבֵּ֙חַ֙ the altar mizbēaḥ בִּדְבַ֣ר in the word dābār יְהוָ֔ה of the Lord, yĕhōwâ וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ and said, ʾāmar מִזְבֵּ֣חַ O altar, mizbēaḥ מִזְבֵּ֔חַ altar, mizbēaḥ כֹּ֖ה thus kō אָמַ֣ר saith ʾāmar יְהוָ֑ה the Lord; yĕhōwâ הִנֵּה Behold, hinnē בֵ֞ן a child bēn נוֹלָ֤ד shall be born yālad לְבֵית unto the house bayit דָּוִד֙ of David, dāwid יֹֽאשִׁיָּ֣הֽוּ Josiah yōʾšiyyâ שְׁמ֔וֹ by name; šēm וְזָבַ֣ח thee shall he offer zābaḥ עָלֶ֗יךָ and upon ʿal אֶת ʾēt כֹּֽהֲנֵ֤י the priests kōhēn הַבָּמוֹת֙ of the high places bāmâ הַמַּקְטִרִ֣ים that burn incense qāṭar עָלֶ֔יךָ upon ʿal וְעַצְמ֥וֹת bones ʿeṣem אָדָ֖ם thee, and men's ʾādām יִשְׂרְפ֥וּ shall be burnt śārap עָלֶֽיךָ׃ upon thee. ʿal

וְנָתַן֩ And he gave nātan בַּיּ֨וֹם day, yôm הַה֤וּא the same hûʾ מוֹפֵת֙ a sign môpēt לֵאמֹ֔ר saying, ʾāmar זֶ֣ה This ze הַמּוֹפֵ֔ת the sign môpēt אֲשֶׁ֖ר which ʾăšer דִּבֶּ֣ר hath spoken; dābar יְהוָ֑ה the Lord yĕhōwâ הִנֵּ֤ה Behold, hinnē הַמִּזְבֵּ֙חַ֙ the altar mizbēaḥ נִקְרָ֔ע shall be rent, qāraʿ וְנִשְׁפַּ֖ךְ it shall be poured out. šāpak הַדֶּ֥שֶׁן and the ashes dešen אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer עָלָֽיו׃ upon ʿal

וַיְהִי֩ And it came to pass, hāyâ כִשְׁמֹ֨עַ heard šāmaʿ הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ when king melek אֶת ʾēt דְּבַ֣ר the saying dābār אִישׁ of the man ʾîš הָֽאֱלֹהִ֗ים of God, ʾĕlōhîm אֲשֶׁ֨ר which ʾăšer קָרָ֤א had cried qārāʾ עַל against ʿal הַמִּזְבֵּ֙חַ֙ the altar mizbēaḥ בְּבֵֽית אֵ֔ל in Beth-el, bêt ʾēl וַיִּשְׁלַ֨ח that he put forth šālaḥ יָֽרָבְעָ֧ם Jeroboam yorobʿām אֶת ʾēt יָד֛וֹ his hand yād מֵעַ֥ל from ʿal הַמִּזְבֵּ֖חַ the altar, mizbēaḥ לֵאמֹ֣ר׀ saying, ʾāmar תִּפְשֻׂ֑הוּ Lay hold tāpaś וַתִּיבַ֤שׁ him, dried up, yābēš יָדוֹ֙ on him. And his hand, yād אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ʾăšer שָׁלַ֣ח he put forth šālaḥ עָלָ֔יו against ʿal וְלֹ֥א not lōʾ יָכֹ֖ל so that he could yākōl לַֽהֲשִׁיבָ֥הּ pull it in again šûb אֵלָֽיו׃ to him. ʾēl

וְהַמִּזְבֵּ֣חַ The altar mizbēaḥ נִקְרָ֔ע also was rent, qāraʿ וַיִּשָּׁפֵ֥ךְ poured out šāpak הַדֶּ֖שֶׁן and the ashes dešen מִן from min הַמִּזְבֵּ֑חַ the altar, mizbēaḥ כַּמּוֹפֵ֗ת according to the sign môpēt אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer נָתַ֛ן had given nātan אִ֥ישׁ the man ʾîš הָֽאֱלֹהִ֖ים of God ʾĕlōhîm בִּדְבַ֥ר by the word dābār יְהוָֽה׃ of the Lord. yĕhōwâ

וַיַּ֨עַן answered ʿānâ הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ And the king melek וַיֹּ֣אמֶר׀ and said ʾāmar אֶל unto ʾēl אִ֣ישׁ the man ʾîš הָֽאֱלֹהִ֗ים of God, ʾĕlōhîm חַל Intreat ḥālâ נָ֞א now nāʾ אֶת ʾēt פְּנֵ֨י the face pānîm יְהוָ֤ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙ thy God, ʾĕlōhîm וְהִתְפַּלֵּ֣ל and pray pālal בַּֽעֲדִ֔י for bĕʿad וְתָשֹׁ֥ב may be restored me again. šûb יָדִ֖י me, that my hand yād אֵלָ֑י ʾēl וַיְחַ֤ל besought ḥālâ אִישׁ And the man ʾîš הָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ of God ʾĕlōhîm אֶת ʾēt פְּנֵ֣י pānîm יְהוָ֔ה the Lord, yĕhōwâ וַתָּ֤שָׁב was restored him again, šûb יַד hand yād הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ and the king's melek אֵלָ֔יו ʾēl וַתְּהִ֖י and became hāyâ כְּבָרִֽאשֹׁנָֽה׃ as before. riʾšôn

וַיְדַבֵּ֤ר said dābar הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ And the king melek אֶל unto ʾēl אִ֣ישׁ the man ʾîš הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים of God, ʾĕlōhîm בֹּֽאָה Come bôʾ אִתִּ֥י with ʾēt הַבַּ֖יְתָה home bayit וּֽסְעָ֑דָה me, and refresh sāʿad וְאֶתְּנָ֥ה thyself, and I will give nātan לְךָ֖ מַתָּֽת׃ thee a reward. mattāt

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said ʾāmar אִישׁ And the man ʾîš הָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ of God ʾĕlōhîm אֶל unto ʾēl הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ the king, melek אִם If ʾim תִּתֶּן thou wilt give nātan לִי֙ אֶת me ʾēt חֲצִ֣י half ḥēṣî בֵיתֶ֔ךָ thine house, bayit לֹ֥א I will not lōʾ אָבֹ֖א go in bôʾ עִמָּ֑ךְ with ʿim וְלֹא thee, neither lōʾ אֹ֤כַל will I eat ʾākal לֶ֙חֶם֙ bread leḥem וְלֹ֣א nor lōʾ אֶשְׁתֶּה drink šātâ מַּ֔יִם water mayim בַּמָּק֖וֹם place: māqôm הַזֶּֽה׃ in this ze

כִּי For kî כֵ֣ן׀ so kēn צִוָּ֣ה was it charged ṣāwâ אֹתִ֗י ʾēt בִּדְבַ֤ר me by the word dābār יְהוָה֙ of the Lord, yĕhōwâ לֵאמֹ֔ר saying, ʾāmar לֹא no lōʾ תֹ֥אכַל Eat ʾākal לֶ֖חֶם bread, leḥem וְלֹ֣א nor lōʾ תִשְׁתֶּה drink šātâ מָּ֑יִם water, mayim וְלֹ֣א nor lōʾ תָשׁ֔וּב turn again šûb בַּדֶּ֖רֶךְ by the same way derek אֲשֶׁ֥ר that ʾăšer הָלָֽכְתָּ׃ thou camest. hālak

וַיֵּ֖לֶךְ So he went hālak בְּדֶ֣רֶךְ way, derek אַחֵ֑ר another ʾaḥēr וְלֹא not lōʾ שָׁ֣ב and returned šûb בַּדֶּ֔רֶךְ by the way derek אֲשֶׁ֛ר that ʾăšer בָּ֥א he came bôʾ בָ֖הּ אֶל to ʾēl בֵּֽית אֵֽל׃ Beth-el. bêt ʾēl

וְנָבִ֤יא prophet nābîʾ אֶחָד֙ an ʾeḥād זָקֵ֔ן old zāqēn יֹשֵׁ֖ב Now there dwelt yāšab בְּבֵֽית אֵ֑ל in Beth-el; bêt ʾēl וַיָּב֣וֹא came bôʾ בְנ֡וֹ and his sons bēn וַיְסַפֶּר and told sāpar ל֣וֹ אֶת him ʾēt כָּל all kōl הַמַּֽעֲשֶׂ֣ה the works maʿăśe אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer עָשָׂה֩ had done ʿāśâ אִישׁ the man ʾîš הָֽאֱלֹהִ֨ים׀ of God ʾĕlōhîm הַיּ֜וֹם that day yôm בְּבֵֽית אֵ֗ל in Beth-el: bêt ʾēl אֶת ʾēt הַדְּבָרִים֙ the words dābār אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ʾăšer דִּבֶּ֣ר he had spoken dābar אֶל unto ʾēl הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ the king, melek וַֽיְסַפְּר֖וּם them they told sāpar לַֽאֲבִיהֶֽם׃ also to their father. ʾāb

וַיְדַבֵּ֤ר said dābar אֲלֵהֶם֙ unto ʾēl אֲבִיהֶ֔ם And their father ʾāb אֵי them, What ʾay זֶ֥ה ze הַדֶּ֖רֶךְ way derek הָלָ֑ךְ went hālak וַיִּרְא֣וּ had seen rāʾâ בָנָ֗יו he? For his sons bēn אֶת ʾēt הַדֶּ֙רֶךְ֙ way derek אֲשֶׁ֤ר what ʾăšer הָלַךְ֙ went, hālak אִ֣ישׁ the man ʾîš הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים of God ʾĕlōhîm אֲשֶׁר which ʾăšer בָּ֖א came bôʾ מִֽיהוּדָֽה׃ from Judah. yĕhûdâ

וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ And he said ʾāmar אֶל unto ʾēl בָּנָ֔יו his sons, bēn חִבְשׁוּ Saddle ḥābaš לִ֖י הַֽחֲמ֑וֹר me the ass. ḥămôr וַיַּחְבְּשׁוּ So they saddled ḥābaš ל֣וֹ הַֽחֲמ֔וֹר him the ass: ḥămôr וַיִּרְכַּ֖ב and he rode rākab עָלָֽיו׃ thereon, ʿal

וַיֵּ֗לֶךְ And went hālak אַֽחֲרֵי֙ after ʾaḥar אִ֣ישׁ the man ʾîš הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים of God, ʾĕlōhîm וַיִּ֨מְצָאֵ֔הוּ and found māṣāʾ יֹשֵׁ֖ב him sitting yāšab תַּ֣חַת under taḥat הָֽאֵלָ֑ה an oak: ʾēlâ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר and he said ʾāmar אֵלָ֗יו unto ʾēl הַֽאַתָּ֧ה him, thou ʾattâ אִישׁ the man ʾîš הָֽאֱלֹהִ֛ים of God ʾĕlōhîm אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer בָּ֥אתָ camest bôʾ מִֽיהוּדָ֖ה from Judah? yĕhûdâ וַיֹּ֥אמֶר And he said, ʾāmar אָֽנִי׃ I ʾănî

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר Then he said ʾāmar אֵלָ֔יו unto ʾēl לֵ֥ךְ him, Come hālak אִתִּ֖י with ʾēt הַבָּ֑יְתָה home bayit וֶֽאֱכֹ֖ל me, and eat ʾākal לָֽחֶם׃ bread. leḥem

וַיֹּ֗אמֶר And he said, ʾāmar לֹ֥א not lōʾ אוּכַ֛ל I may yākōl לָשׁ֥וּב return šûb אִתָּ֖ךְ with ʾēt וְלָב֣וֹא thee, nor go in bôʾ אִתָּ֑ךְ with ʾēt וְלֹא thee: neither lōʾ אֹ֣כַל will I eat ʾākal לֶ֗חֶם bread leḥem וְלֹֽא nor lōʾ אֶשְׁתֶּ֤ה drink šātâ אִתְּךָ֙ with ʾēt מַ֔יִם water mayim בַּמָּק֖וֹם place: māqôm הַזֶּֽה׃ thee in this ze

כִּֽי For kî דָבָ֤ר it was said dābār אֵלַי֙ to ʾēl בִּדְבַ֣ר me by the word dābār יְהוָ֔ה of the Lord, yĕhōwâ לֹֽא no lōʾ תֹאכַ֣ל Thou shalt eat ʾākal לֶ֔חֶם bread leḥem וְלֹֽא nor lōʾ תִשְׁתֶּ֥ה drink šātâ שָׁ֖ם there, šām מָ֑יִם water mayim לֹֽא nor lōʾ תָשׁ֣וּב turn again šûb לָלֶ֔כֶת to go hālak בַּדֶּ֖רֶךְ by the way derek אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer הָלַ֥כְתָּ thou camest. hālak בָּֽהּ׃

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר He said ʾāmar ל֗וֹ גַּם also gam אֲנִ֣י unto him, I ʾănî נָבִיא֮ a prophet nābîʾ כָּמוֹךָ֒ kĕmô וּמַלְאָ֡ךְ as thou and an angel mălʾok דִּבֶּ֣ר spake dābar אֵלַי֩ unto ʾēl בִּדְבַ֨ר me by the word dābār יְהוָ֜ה of the Lord, yĕhōwâ לֵאמֹ֗ר saying, ʾāmar הֲשִׁבֵ֤הוּ Bring him back šûb אִתְּךָ֙ with ʾēt אֶל thee into ʾēl בֵּיתֶ֔ךָ thine house, bayit וְיֹ֥אכַל that he may eat ʾākal לֶ֖חֶם bread leḥem וְיֵ֣שְׁתְּ and drink šātâ מָ֑יִם water. mayim כִּחֵ֖שׁ he lied unto him. kāḥaš לֽוֹ׃

וַיָּ֣שָׁב So he went back šûb אִתּ֗וֹ with ʾēt וַיֹּ֥אכַל him, and did eat ʾākal לֶ֛חֶם bread leḥem בְּבֵית֖וֹ in his house, bayit וַיֵּ֥שְׁתְּ and drank šātâ מָֽיִם׃ water. mayim

וַיְהִ֕י And it came to pass, hāyâ הֵ֥ם as they hēm יֹֽשְׁבִ֖ים sat yāšab אֶל at ʾēl הַשֻּׁלְחָ֑ן the table, šulḥān וַֽיְהִי֙ came hāyâ דְּבַר that the word dābār יְהוָ֔ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ אֶל unto ʾēl הַנָּבִ֖יא the prophet nābîʾ אֲשֶׁ֥ר that ʾăšer הֱשִׁיבֽוֹ׃ brought him back: šûb

וַיִּקְרָ֞א And he cried qārāʾ אֶל unto ʾēl אִ֣ישׁ the man ʾîš הָֽאֱלֹהִ֗ים of God ʾĕlōhîm אֲשֶׁר that ʾăšer בָּ֤א came bôʾ מִֽיהוּדָה֙ from Judah, yĕhûdâ לֵאמֹ֔ר saying, ʾāmar כֹּ֖ה Thus kō אָמַ֣ר saith ʾāmar יְהוָ֑ה the Lord, yĕhōwâ יַ֗עַן Forasmuch yaʿan כִּ֤י kî מָרִ֙יתָ֙ as thou hast disobeyed mārâ פִּ֣י the mouth pe יְהוָ֔ה of the Lord, yĕhōwâ וְלֹ֤א and hast not lōʾ שָׁמַ֙רְתָּ֙ kept šāmar אֶת ʾēt הַמִּצְוָ֔ה the commandment miṣwâ אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer צִוְּךָ֖ commanded thee, ṣāwâ יְהוָ֥ה the Lord yĕhōwâ אֱלֹהֶֽיךָ׃ thy God ʾĕlōhîm

וַתָּ֗שָׁב But camest back, šûb וַתֹּ֤אכַל and hast eaten ʾākal לֶ֙חֶם֙ bread leḥem וַתֵּ֣שְׁתְּ and drunk šātâ מַ֔יִם water mayim בַּמָּקוֹם֙ in the place, māqôm אֲשֶׁ֣ר of the which ʾăšer דִּבֶּ֣ר did say dābar אֵלֶ֔יךָ to ʾēl אַל no ʾal תֹּ֥אכַל thee, Eat ʾākal לֶ֖חֶם bread, leḥem וְאַל no ʾal תֵּ֣שְׁתְּ and drink šātâ מָ֑יִם water; mayim לֹֽא shall not lōʾ תָב֥וֹא come bôʾ נִבְלָֽתְךָ֖ thy carcase nĕbēlâ אֶל unto ʾēl קֶ֥בֶר the sepulchre qeber אֲבֹתֶֽיךָ׃ of thy fathers. ʾāb

וַיְהִ֗י And it came to pass, hāyâ אַֽחֲרֵ֛י after ʾaḥar אָכְל֥וֹ he had eaten ʾākal לֶ֖חֶם bread, leḥem וְאַֽחֲרֵ֣י and after ʾaḥar שְׁתוֹת֑וֹ he had drunk, šātâ וַיַּֽחֲבָשׁ that he saddled ḥābaš ל֣וֹ הַֽחֲמ֔וֹר for him the ass, ḥămôr לַנָּבִ֖יא for the prophet nābîʾ אֲשֶׁ֥ר whom ʾăšer הֱשִׁיבֽוֹ׃ he had brought back. šûb

וַיֵּ֕לֶךְ And when he was gone, hālak וַיִּמְצָאֵ֧הוּ met māṣāʾ אַרְיֵ֛ה a lion ʾărî בַּדֶּ֖רֶךְ him by the way, derek וַיְמִיתֵ֑הוּ and slew mût וַתְּהִ֤י was hāyâ נִבְלָתוֹ֙ him: and his carcase nĕbēlâ מֻשְׁלֶ֣כֶת cast šālak בַּדֶּ֔רֶךְ in the way, derek וְהַֽחֲמוֹר֙ and the ass ḥămôr עֹמֵ֣ד stood ʿāmad אֶצְלָ֔הּ by ʾēṣel וְהָ֣אַרְיֵ֔ה it, the lion ʾărî עֹמֵ֖ד also stood ʿāmad אֵ֥צֶל by ʾēṣel הַנְּבֵלָֽה׃ the carcase. nĕbēlâ

וְהִנֵּ֧ה And, behold, hinnē אֲנָשִׁ֣ים men ʾîš עֹֽבְרִ֗ים passed by, ʿābar וַיִּרְא֤וּ and saw rāʾâ אֶת ʾēt הַנְּבֵלָה֙ the carcase nĕbēlâ מֻשְׁלֶ֣כֶת cast šālak בַּדֶּ֔רֶךְ in the way, derek וְאֶת ʾēt הָ֣אַרְיֵ֔ה and the lion ʾărî עֹמֵ֖ד standing ʿāmad אֵ֣צֶל by ʾēṣel הַנְּבֵלָ֑ה the carcase: nĕbēlâ וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ and they came bôʾ וַיְדַבְּר֣וּ and told dābar בָעִ֔יר in the city ʿîr אֲשֶׁ֛ר where ʾăšer הַנָּבִ֥יא prophet nābîʾ הַזָּקֵ֖ן the old zāqēn יֹשֵׁ֥ב dwelt. yāšab בָּֽהּ׃

וַיִּשְׁמַ֣ע heard šāmaʿ הַנָּבִיא֮ And when the prophet nābîʾ אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ʾăšer הֱשִׁיב֣וֹ brought him back šûb מִן from min הַדֶּרֶךְ֒ the way derek וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ he said, ʾāmar אִ֣ישׁ the man ʾîš הָֽאֱלֹהִ֣ים of God, ʾĕlōhîm ה֔וּא It hûʾ אֲשֶׁ֥ר who ʾăšer מָרָ֖ה was disobedient mārâ אֶת unto ʾēt פִּ֣י the word pe יְהוָ֑ה of the Lord: yĕhōwâ וַיִּתְּנֵ֨הוּ hath delivered nātan יְהוָ֜ה therefore the Lord yĕhōwâ לָֽאַרְיֵ֗ה him unto the lion, ʾărî וַֽיִּשְׁבְּרֵ֙הוּ֙ which hath torn šābar וַיְמִתֵ֔הוּ him, and slain mût כִּדְבַ֥ר him, according to the word dābār יְהוָ֖ה of the Lord, yĕhōwâ אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ʾăšer דִּבֶּר he spake unto him. dābar לֽוֹ׃

וַיְדַבֵּ֤ר And he spake dābar אֶל to ʾēl בָּנָיו֙ his sons, bēn לֵאמֹ֔ר saying, ʾāmar חִבְשׁוּ Saddle ḥābaš לִ֖י אֶֽת me ʾēt הַחֲמ֑וֹר the ass. ḥămôr וַֽיַּחֲבֹֽשׁוּ׃ And they saddled ḥābaš

וַיֵּ֗לֶךְ And he went hālak וַיִּמְצָ֤א and found māṣāʾ אֶת ʾēt נִבְלָתוֹ֙ his carcase nĕbēlâ מֻשְׁלֶ֣כֶת cast šālak בַּדֶּ֔רֶךְ in the way, derek וַֽחֲמוֹר֙ and the ass ḥămôr וְהָ֣אַרְיֵ֔ה and the lion ʾărî עֹֽמְדִ֖ים standing ʿāmad אֵ֣צֶל by ʾēṣel הַנְּבֵלָ֑ה the carcase: nĕbēlâ לֹֽא had not lōʾ אָכַ֤ל eaten ʾākal הָֽאַרְיֵה֙ the lion ʾărî אֶת ʾēt הַנְּבֵלָ֔ה the carcase, nĕbēlâ וְלֹ֥א nor lōʾ שָׁבַ֖ר torn šābar אֶֽת ʾēt הַחֲמֽוֹר׃ the ass. ḥămôr

וַיִּשָּׂ֨א took up nāśāʾ הַנָּבִ֜יא And the prophet nābîʾ אֶת ʾēt נִבְלַ֧ת the carcase nĕbēlâ אִישׁ of the man ʾîš הָֽאֱלֹהִ֛ים of God, ʾĕlōhîm וַיַּנִּחֵ֥הוּ and laid yānaḥ אֶֽל it upon ʾēl הַחֲמ֖וֹר the ass, ḥămôr וַיְשִׁיבֵ֑הוּ and brought it back: šûb וַיָּבֹ֗א came bôʾ אֶל to ʾēl עִיר֙ the city, ʿîr הַנָּבִ֣יא prophet nābîʾ הַזָּקֵ֔ן and the old zāqēn לִסְפֹּ֖ד to mourn sāpad וּלְקָבְרֽוֹ׃ and to bury him. qābar

וַיַּנַּ֥ח And he laid yānaḥ אֶת ʾēt נִבְלָת֖וֹ his carcase nĕbēlâ בְּקִבְר֑וֹ in his own grave; qeber וַיִּסְפְּד֥וּ and they mourned sāpad עָלָ֖יו over ʿal ה֥וֹי him, Alas, hôy אָחִֽי׃ my brother! ʾāḥ

וַיְהִי֮ And it came to pass, hāyâ אַֽחֲרֵ֣י after ʾaḥar קָבְר֣וֹ he had buried qābar אֹתוֹ֒ ʾēt וַיֹּ֤אמֶר him, that he spake ʾāmar אֶל to ʾēl בָּנָיו֙ his sons, bēn לֵאמֹ֔ר saying, ʾāmar בְּמוֹתִי֙ When I am dead, mût וּקְבַרְתֶּ֣ם then bury qābar אֹתִ֔י ʾēt בַּקֶּ֕בֶר me in the sepulchre qeber אֲשֶׁ֛ר wherein ʾăšer אִ֥ישׁ the man ʾîš הָֽאֱלֹהִ֖ים of God ʾĕlōhîm קָב֣וּר buried; qābar בּ֑וֹ אֵ֚צֶל beside ʾēṣel עַצְמֹתָ֔יו my bones ʿeṣem הַנִּ֖יחוּ lay yānaḥ אֶת ʾēt עַצְמֹתָֽי׃ his bones: ʿeṣem

כִּי֩ For kî הָיֹ֨ה shall surely come to pass. hāyâ יִֽהְיֶ֜ה hāyâ הַדָּבָ֗ר the saying dābār אֲשֶׁ֤ר which ʾăšer קָרָא֙ he cried qārāʾ בִּדְבַ֣ר by the word dābār יְהוָ֔ה of the Lord yĕhōwâ עַל against ʿal הַמִּזְבֵּ֖חַ the altar mizbēaḥ אֲשֶׁ֣ר which ʾăšer בְּבֵֽית אֵ֑ל in Beth-el, bêt ʾēl וְעַל֙ and against ʿal כָּל all kōl בָּתֵּ֣י the houses bayit הַבָּמ֔וֹת of the high places bāmâ אֲשֶׁ֖ר ʾăšer בְּעָרֵ֥י in the cities ʿîr שֹֽׁמְרֽוֹן׃ of Samaria, šōmĕrôn

אַחַר֙ After ʾaḥar הַדָּבָ֣ר thing dābār הַזֶּ֔ה this ze לֹא not lōʾ שָׁ֥ב returned šûb יָֽרָבְעָ֖ם Jeroboam yorobʿām מִדַּרְכּ֣וֹ way, derek הָֽרָעָ֑ה from his evil raʿ וַ֠יָּשָׁב again šûb וַיַּ֜עַשׂ but made ʿāśâ מִקְצ֤וֹת of the lowest qāṣâ הָעָם֙ of the people ʿam כֹּֽהֲנֵ֣י priests kōhēn בָמ֔וֹת of the high places: bāmâ הֶֽחָפֵץ֙ whosoever would, ḥāpēṣ יְמַלֵּ֣א he consecrated mālēʾ אֶת ʾēt יָד֔וֹ yād וִיהִ֖י him, and he became hāyâ כֹּֽהֲנֵ֥י of the priests kōhēn בָמֽוֹת׃ of the high places. bāmâ

וַֽיְהִי֙ became hāyâ בַּדָּבָ֣ר thing dābār הַזֶּ֔ה And this ze לְחַטַּ֖את sin ḥaṭṭāʾâ בֵּ֣ית unto the house bayit יָֽרָבְעָ֑ם of Jeroboam, yorobʿām וּלְהַכְחִיד֙ even to cut off, kāḥad וּלְהַשְׁמִ֔יד and to destroy šāmad מֵעַ֖ל from off ʿal פְּנֵ֥י the face pānîm הָֽאֲדָמָֽה׃ of the earth. ʾădāmâ
