அதுபோல, மனைவியானவளுக்கும் கன்னிகைக்கும் வித்தியாசமுண்டு. விவாகமில்லாதவள் சரீரத்திலும் ஆத்துமாவிலும் பரிசுத்தமாயிருக்கும்படி கர்த்தருக்குரியவைகளுக்காகக் கவலைப்படுகிறாள்; விவாகம்பண்ணினவள் தன் புருஷனுக்கு எப்படிப் பிரியமாயிருக்கலாமென்று, உலகத்திற்குரியவைளுக்காகக் கவலைப்படுகிறாள்.

அதுபோல, மனைவியானவளுக்கும், கன்னிப்பெண்ணுக்கும் வித்தியாசமுண்டு. திருமணம் செய்யாதவள் சரீரத்திலும் ஆத்துமாவிலும் பரிசுத்தமாக இருக்கும்படி, கர்த்தருக்குரியவைகளுக்காகக் கவலைப்படுகிறாள்; திருமணம் செய்தவள் தன் கணவனுக்கு எப்படிப் பிரியமாக இருக்கலாமென்று, உலகத்திற்குரியவைகளுக்காகக் கவலைப்படுகிறாள்.

அவன் இரண்டு காரியங்களை நினைவில் கொள்ள வேண்டும். மனைவியை மகிழ்ச்சிப்படுத்துவதும், கர்த்தரை மகிழ்ச்சிப்படுத்துவதும் ஆகியவை அவை. திருமணம் ஆகாத பெண்ணோ, ஒரு இளம்பெண்ணோ கர்த்தரின் வேலையில் முனைவாள். கர்த்தருக்கு சரீரத்தையும் ஆன்மாவையும் முழுக்க அர்ப்பணிக்க விரும்புகிறாள். ஆனால், திருமணமான பெண்ணோ உலகக் காரியங்களில் தீவிரமாக ஈடுபடுகிறாள். அவள் கணவனை மகிழ்ச்சிப்படுத்த முயற்சி செய்கிறாள்.

There is difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please her husband.
