Romans 9 - ASV (Punjabi)

1 I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience bearing witness with me in the Holy Spirit,ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਅਤੇ ਯਹੂਦੀ ਲੋਕ ਮੈਂ ਮਸੀਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਸੱਚ ਬੋਲਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਮੈਂ ਝੂਠ ਨਹੀਂ ਬੋਲਦਾ। ਮੇਰੇ ਵਿੱਚਾਰਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਆਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਾਸਨ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਵਿੱਚਾਰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਝੂਠ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ।

2 that I have great sorrow and unceasing pain in my heart.ਮੇਰੇ ਦਿਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਨਿਰੰਤਰ ਦਰਦ ਹੈ।

3 For I could wish that I myself were anathema from Christ for my brethren's sake, my kinsmen according to the flesh:ਉਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਰਾ ਅਤੇ ਭੈਣਾਂ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਹਨ। ਕਾਸ਼ ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਦਦ ਕਰ ਸੱਕਦਾ। ਮੈਂ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਵੀ ਸਰਾਪਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਮਸੀਹ ਤੋਂ ਕਟਿਆ ਹੁੰਦਾ, ਜੇਕਰ ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਮਿਲਦੀ।

4 who are Israelites; whose is the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service `of God', and the promises;ਉਹ ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀ ਹਨ। ਉਹ ਲੋਕ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਚੁਣੀ ਹੋਈ ਔਲਾਦ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੋਲ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਕਰਾਰ ਵੀ ਹਨ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵਿੱਚਕਾਰ ਕੀਤੇ ਸਨ। ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੂਸਾ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰ੍ਹਾ ਅਤੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਉਪਾਸਨਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੌਲ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤੇ।

5 whose are the fathers, and of whom is Christ as concerning the flesh, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.ਉਹ ਲੋਕ ਸਾਡੇ ਪਿਉ-ਦਾਦਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਔਲਾਦ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਮਸੀਹ ਦਾ ਦੁਨਿਆਵੀ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਹਨ। ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਲਈ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਹੋਵੇ ਜੋ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਹੈ। ਆਮੀਨ।

6 But `it is' not as though the word of God hath come to nought. For they are not all Israel, that are of Israel:ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਦੁੱਖ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਮੇਰਾ ਇਹ ਮਤਲਬ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਉਹ ਵਚਨ ਪੂਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ। ਪਰ ਅਸਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ।

7 neither, because they are Abraham's seed, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਅਬਰਾਹਾਮ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਉਲਾਦ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਹਨ। ਇਹੀ ਸੀ ਜੋ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਅਬਰਾਹਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ: “ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇਸਹਾਕ ਹੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੇਮਕ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।”

8 That is, it is not the children of the flesh that are children of God; but the children of the promise are reckoned for a seed.ਇਸਦਾ ਮਤਲਬ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਅਬਰਾਹਾਮ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਉਲਾਦਾਂ ਪਰੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ। ਅਬਰਾਹਾਮ ਦੇ ਸੱਚੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਉਹ ਹਨ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਪਰੇਮਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਵਾਦੇ ਦੇ ਨਤੀਜੇ ਤੋਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਪਰੇਮਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਅਬਰਾਹਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ।

9 For this is a word of promise, According to this season will I come, and Sarah shall have a son.ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਾ ਅਬਰਾਹਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਵਚਨ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸੀ: “ਮੈਂ ਸਹੀ ਸਮੇਂ ਤੇ ਵਾਪਸ ਆਵਾਂਗਾ, ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰਾਹ ਕੋਲ ਇੱਕ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।”

10 And not only so; but Rebecca also having conceived by one, `even' by our father Isaac--ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ। ਰਿੱਬਕਾਹ ਵੀ ਗਰਭਵਤੀ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਵੀ ਉਹੀ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਸਾਡਾ ਵਡੇਰਾ ਇਸਹਾਕ ਹੈ।

11 for `the children' being not yet born, neither having done anything good or bad, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth,ਪਰ ਦੋ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਜਨਮ ਲੈਣ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਰਿੱਬਕਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਵੱਡਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਛੋਟੇ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੇਗਾ।” ਇਹ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਲਾ ਜਾਂ ਬੁਰਾ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਖ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਬਾਲਕ ਖੁਦ ਆਪਣੀ ਵਿਉਂਤ ਮੁਤਾਬਕ ਚੁਣਿਆ ਸੀ। ਸੋ ਉਹ ਚੁਣਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਬੁਲਾਉਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬਾਲਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਕੁਝ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ।

12 it was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger.

13 Even as it is written, Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਪੋਥੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, “ਮੈਂ ਯਾਕੂਬ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਅਤੇ ਏਸਾਉ ਨਾਲ ਈਰਖਾ ਕੀਤੀ।”

14 What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid.ਇਸ ਲਈ ਇਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਕੀ ਕਹਿਣਾ ਹੈ ਕੀ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਾ ਇਨਸਾਫ਼ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ? ਅਸੀਂ ਇੰਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਖ ਸੱਕਦੇ।

15 For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਮੂਸਾ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਮੈਂ ਉਸੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਹਰ ਦਿਖਾਵਾਂਗਾ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਮਿਹਰ ਵਿਖਾਉਣੀ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਮੈਂ ਉਸੇ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਤੇ ਤਰਸ ਵਿਖਾਵਾਂਗਾ ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਤਰਸ ਵਿਖਾਉਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ”

16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that hath mercy.ਇਸ ਲਈ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਚੋਣ ਉਸ ਤੇ ਨਿਰਭਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੀ, ਜੋ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਾਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਹ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਚੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਕਿਸ ਉੱਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਵਿਖਾਵੇਗਾ।

17 For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, For this very purpose did I raise thee up, that I might show in thee my power, and that my name might be published abroad in all the earth.ਪੋਥੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ, ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਫ਼ਿਰਊਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ, “ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਤੇਰੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਦਰਸ਼ਾ ਸੱਕਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੇਰਾ ਨਾਂ ਉਜਾਗਰ ਹੋਵੇ।”

18 So then he hath mercy on whom he will, and whom he will be hardeneth.ਇਸ ਲਈ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਵਿਖਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸਤੇ ਉਹ ਮਿਹਰ ਵਿਖਾਉਣੀ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਠੋਰ ਬਨਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਕਠੋਰ ਬਨਾਉਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

19 Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he still find fault? For who withstandeth his will?ਫ਼ਿਰ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛੇਗਾ: “ਜੇਕਰ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਵੀ ਅਸੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਯੰਤ੍ਰਿਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਾਡੇ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਲਈ ਕਸੂਰਵਾਰ ਕਿਉਂ ਠਹਿਰਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ?”

20 Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why didst thou make me thus?ਉਹ ਨਾ ਪੁੱਛੋ। ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕੇਵਲ ਇਨਸਾਨ ਹੋ। ਇਨਸਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨਾਲ ਬਹਿਸ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਹੱਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਇੱਕ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿਰਜਣ੍ਹਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੁੱਛ ਸੱਕਦਾ, “ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਇੰਝ ਕਿਉਂ ਬਣਾਇਆ?”

21 Or hath not the potter a right over the clay, from the same lump to make one part a vessel unto honor, and another unto dishonor?ਇੱਕ ਘੁਮਿਆਰ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਗਮਲੇ ਬਨਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸੇ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਨਾਲ ਭਿੰਨ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਗਮਲੇ ਭਿੰਨ-ਭਿੰਨ ਉਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਲਈ ਆਪਣੀ ਇੱਛਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਬਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਕੁਝ ਖਾਸ ਇਸਤੇਮਾਲ ਲਈ ਅਤੇ ਕੁਝ ਆਮ ਇਸਤੇਮਾਲ ਲਈ ਬਣਾ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ।

22 What if God, willing to show his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering vessels of wrath fitted unto destruction:ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ, ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਆਪਣਾ ਗੁੱਸਾ ਵਿਖਾਉਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਲੋਕ ਉਸਦੀ ਸ਼ਕਤੀ ਵੇਖ ਸੱਕਣ। ਪਰੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਬਰ ਨਾਲ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਹਾਰਿਆ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਗੁੱਸੇ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਤਬਾਹੀ ਲਈ ਤਿਆਰ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਸਨ।

23 and that he might make known the riches of his glory upon vessels of mercy, which he afore prepared unto glory,ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਧੀਰਜ ਨਾਲ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਹਾਰਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਅਮੀਰ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਕਫ਼ ਕਰਾ ਸੱਕੇ। ਉਹ ਇਹ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਸੀ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਉਸਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਤਿਆਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ।

24 `even' us, whom he also called, not from the Jews only, but also from the Gentiles?ਅਸੀਂ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਸੱਦੇ ਗਏ ਲੋਕ ਹਾਂ। ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰਾਂ ਕੌਮਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ।

25 As he saith also in Hosea, I will call that my people, which was not my people; And her beloved, that was not beloved.ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਹੋਸ਼ੇਆ ਦੀ ਪੋਥੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੈ: “ਜਿਹੜੇ ਲੋਕ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ, ਮੈਂ ਆਖਾਂਗਾ ਉਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਲੋਕ ਹਨ। ਅਤੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਮੈਂ ਆਖਾਂਗਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਉਹੀ ਲੋਕ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਪਿਆਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।”

26 And it shall be, `that' in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, There shall they be called sons of the living God.“ਅਤੇ ਉਸੇ ਜਗ਼੍ਹਾ ਉਸ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ ਹੈ ‘ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਲੋਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ’ ਉਸੇ ਥਾਵੇਂ, ਉਹ ਜਿਉਂਦੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਅਖਵਾਉਣਗੇ।”

27 And Isaiah crieth concerning Israel, If the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, it is the remnant that shall be saved:ਅਤੇ ਯਸਾਯਾਹ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਵਿੱਖੇ ਪੁਕਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ: “ਕਿ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦੀ ਰੇਤ ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਹੋਣ, ਪਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਕੁਝ ਲੋਕ ਹੀ ਬਚਾਏ ਜਾਣਗੇ।

28 for the Lord will execute `his' word upon the earth, finishing it and cutting it short.ਹਾਂ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਛੇਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਿਆਂ ਕਰੇਗਾ।”

29 And, as Isaiah hath said before, Except the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, We had become as Sodom, and had been made like unto Gomorrah.ਜਿਵੇਂ ਯਸਾਯਾਹ ਨੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਵੀ ਕਿਹਾ ਹੈ: “ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਸ਼ਾਲੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੁਝ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਬਚਾਇਆ। ਜੇਕਰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਨਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ, ਤਾਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਵੀ ਸਦੂਮ ਵਰਗੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਅਮੂਰਾਹ ਜਿਹੇ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦੇ।”

30 What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, who followed not after righteousness, attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith:ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਕੀ ਅਰਥ ਹੋਇਆ? ਇਸਦਾ ਮਤਲਬ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ; ਗੈਰ ਯਹੂਦੀ ਲੋਕ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਧਰਮੀ ਹੋਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ, ਧਰਮੀ ਬਣਾਏ ਗਏ। ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਕਾਰਣ ਹੀ ਧਰਮੀ ਬਣੇ।

31 but Israel, following after a law of righteousness, did not arrive at `that' law.ਅਤੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਧਰਮੀ ਬਨਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਸ਼ਰ੍ਹਾ ਨੂੰ ਕਬੂਲਿਆ, ਪਰ ਉਹ ਇਵੇਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਾਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਰਹੇ।

32 Wherefore? Because `they sought it' not by faith, but as it were by works. They stumbled at the stone of stumbling;ਕਿਉਂ? ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਧਰਮੀ ਬਣਨ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਕਿ ਨਿਹਚਾ ਰਾਹੀਂ। ਉਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪੱਥਰਾਂ ਤੇ ਅੜਕੇ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਠੋਕਰ ਖੁਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

33 even as it is written, Behold, I lay in Zion a stone of stumbling and a rock of offence: And he that believeth on him shall not be put to shame.ਪੋਥੀਆਂ ਇਸ ਪੱਥਰ ਬਾਰੇ ਆਖਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ; “ਵੇਖੋ, ਮੈਂ ਸੀਯੋਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਪੱਥਰ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਠੋਕਰ ਖੁਆਵੇਗਾ। ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਇੱਕ ਚੱਟਾਨ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਪ ਕਰਵਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਚੱਟਾਨ ਤੇ ਨਿਹਚਾ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਿਰਾਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।”
