Deuteronomy 24:16
“ਮਾਪਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਦ੍ਦੁਆਰਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਗਲਤੀ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਾਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਅਤੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਪਿਆਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਿਸੇ ਗਲਤੀ ਕਾਰਣ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਾਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ। ਕਿਸੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਸਦੀ ਮੰਦੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਕਾਰਣ ਹੀ ਮੌਤ ਦੀ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਾਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ।

ਪਰ ਅਮਸਯਾਹ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਮਾਰਿਆ, ਕਿਉਂ ਕਿ ਮੂਸਾ ਦੀ ਬਿਵਸਥਾ ਦੀ ਪੋਥੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੰਨਿਆ। ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, “ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਦਲੇ ਪਿਉ ਨਾ ਮਾਰੇ ਜਾਣ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਪਿਉਆਂ ਦੇ ਬਦਲੇ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਜਾਵੇ ਹਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਉਸਦੀ ਭੈੜੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਣ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਕਾਰਣ ਹੀ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਜਾਵੇ।”
