അവൻ മരണയോഗ്യമായതു ഒന്നും ചെയ്തിട്ടില്ല എന്നു ഞാൻ ഗ്രഹിച്ചു; അവൻ തന്നെയും ചക്രവർത്തിതിരുമനസ്സിലെ അഭയം ചൊല്ലുകയാൽ അവനെ അയക്കേണം എന്നു വിധിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

But when I found that he had committed nothing worthy of death, and that he himself hath appealed to Augustus, I have determined to send him.

ഞാൻ അന്യായം ചെയ്തു മരണയോഗ്യമായതു വല്ലതും പ്രവൃത്തിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടെങ്കിൽ മരണശിക്ഷ ഏല്ക്കുന്നതിന്നു എനിക്കു വിരോധമില്ല. ഇവർ എന്റെനേരെ ബോധിപ്പിക്കുന്ന അന്യായം നേരല്ല എന്നു വരികിലോ എന്നെ അവർക്കു ഏല്പിച്ചുകൊടുപ്പാൻ ആർക്കും കഴിയുന്നതല്ല;

പീലാത്തൊസ് അവനോടു: സത്യം എന്നാൽ എന്തു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു പിന്നെയും യെഹൂദന്മാരുടെ അടുക്കൽ പുറത്തു ചെന്നു അവരോടു: ഞാൻ അവനിൽ ഒരു കുറ്റവും കാണുന്നില്ല.
