1 Words of a preacher, son of David, king in Jerusalem:ದಾವೀದನ ಮಗನೂ ಯೆರೂಸಲೇಮಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಅರಸನೂ ಆಗಿದ್ದ ಪ್ರಸಂಗಿಯ ಮಾತುಗಳು.

2 Vanity of vanities, said the Preacher, Vanity of vanities: the whole `is' vanity.ವ್ಯರ್ಥಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ವ್ಯರ್ಥ, ವ್ಯರ್ಥಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ವ್ಯರ್ಥ ಎಂದು ಪ್ರಸಂಗಿ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ; ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ವ್ಯರ್ಥ.

3 What advantage `is' to man by all his labour that he laboureth at under the sun?ಸೂರ್ಯನ ಕೆಳಗೆ ಮನುಷ್ಯನು ಪಡುವ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಪ್ರಯಾಸದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವನಿಗೆ ಲಾಭವೇನು?

4 A generation is going, and a generation is coming, and the earth to the age is standing.ಒಂದು ಸಂತಾನವು ಗತಿಸುತ್ತದೆ, ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ಸಂತಾನವು ಬರುತ್ತದೆ; ಆದರೆ ಭೂಮಿಯು ಎಂದಿಗೂ ನಿಲ್ಲುತ್ತದೆ.

5 Also, the sun hath risen, and the sun hath gone in, and unto its place panting it is rising there.ಸೂರ್ಯನು ಏರುತ್ತಾನೆ, ಸೂರ್ಯನು ಇಳಿಯುತ್ತಾನೆ; ತಾನು ಏರಿದ ಸ್ಥಳಕ್ಕೆ ಆತುರಪಡುತ್ತಾನೆ.

6 Going unto the south, and turning round unto the north, turning round, turning round, the wind is going, and by its circuits the wind hath returned.ಗಾಳಿಯು ದಕ್ಷಿಣದ ಕಡೆಗೆ ಬೀಸುತ್ತದೆ, ಉತ್ತರದ ಕಡೆಗೆ ತಿರುಗುತ್ತದೆ; ಅದು ಬಿಡದೆ ಗುಂಡಾಗಿ ಸುತ್ತುತ್ತದೆ; ಆ ಗಾಳಿಯು ತನ್ನ ಸುತ್ತಳತೆಗಳ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಹಿಂದಿರು ಗುತ್ತದೆ.

7 All the streams are going unto the sea, and the sea is not full; unto a place whither the streams are going, thither they are turning back to go.ನದಿಗಳೆಲ್ಲಾ ಹರಿದು ಸಮುದ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗುತ್ತವೆ, ಆದರೂ ಸಮುದ್ರವು ತುಂಬುವದಿಲ್ಲ; ನದಿ ಗಳು ಎಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಬಂದಿವೆಯೋ ಆ ಸ್ಥಳಕ್ಕೆ ಅವು ಹಿಂತಿರು ಗುತ್ತವೆ.

8 All these things are wearying; a man is not able to speak, the eye is not satisfied by seeing, nor filled is the ear from hearing.ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕಾರ್ಯಗಳು ಪ್ರಯಾಸದಿಂದ ತುಂಬಿ ಯವೆ; ಅದನ್ನು ಮನುಷ್ಯನು ವಿವರಿಸಲಾರನು; ನೋಡುವದರಿಂದ ಕಣ್ಣು ತೃಪ್ತಿಗೊಳ್ಳದು. ಇಲ್ಲವೆ ಕೇಳು ವದರಿಂದ ಕಿವಿಯು ದಣಿಯದು.

9 What `is' that which hath been? it `is' that which is, and what `is' that which hath been done? it `is' that which is done, and there is not an entirely new thing under the sun.ಇದ್ದದ್ದೇ ಇರು ವದು, ನಡೆದದ್ದೇ ನಡೆಯುವದು; ಸೂರ್ಯನ ಕೆಳಗೆ ಹೊಸದಾದದ್ದು ಯಾವದೂ ಇಲ್ಲ.

10 There is a thing of which `one' saith: `See this, it `is' new!' already it hath been in the ages that were before us!ನೋಡು, ಇದು ಹೊಸದು ಎಂದು ಯಾವ ವಿಷಯವಾಗಿ ಹೇಳ ಬಹುದೋ ಅದು ನಮಗಿಂತ ಮುಂಚೆ ಪುರಾತನ ಕಾಲದಿಂದ ಇದ್ದದ್ದೇ.

11 There is not a remembrance of former `generations'; and also of the latter that are, there is no remembrance of them with those that are at the last.ಮೊದಲಿನ ಸಂಗತಿಗಳ ಜ್ಞಾಪ ಕವು ಇಲ್ಲ; ಮುಂದಿನ ಸಂಗತಿಗಳ ಜ್ಞಾಪಕವು ಅವುಗಳ ಮುಂದಿನವರಿಗೆ ಇರುವದಿಲ್ಲ.

12 I, a preacher, have been king over Israel in Jerusalem.ಪ್ರಸಂಗಿಯಾದ ನಾನು ಯೆರೂಸಲೇಮಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರ ಮೇಲೆ ಅರಸನಾಗಿದ್ದೆನು.

13 And I have given my heart to seek and to search out by wisdom concerning all that hath been done under the heavens. It `is' a sad travail God hath given to the sons of man to be humbled by it.ಆಕಾಶದ ಕೆಳಗೆ ನಡೆಯುವ ಎಲ್ಲವುಗಳ ವಿಷಯವಾಗಿ ಜ್ಞಾನ ದಿಂದ ವಿಚಾರಿಸಿ ವಿಮರ್ಶಿಸುವದಕ್ಕೆ ನಾನು ನನ್ನ ಮನಸ್ಸು ಇಟ್ಟೆನು; ಇದರ ವಿಷಯವಾದ ಪ್ರಯಾಸವು ಮನಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಯೋಚಿಸುವಂತೆ ದೇವರು ಮನುಷ್ಯ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಈ ಕಷ್ಟಕರವಾದ ಪ್ರಯಾಸವನ್ನು ಕೊಟ್ಟಿ ದ್ದಾನೆ.

14 I have seen all the works that have been done under the sun, and lo, the whole `is' vanity and vexation of spirit!ಸೂರ್ಯನ ಕೆಳಗೆ ನಡೆಯುವ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕೆಲಸಗಳನ್ನು ನಾನು ನೋಡಿದ್ದೇನೆ; ಇಗೋ, ಎಲ್ಲವು ವ್ಯರ್ಥವೂ ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ಆಯಾಸವೂ ಆಗಿವೆ.

15 A crooked thing `one' is not able to make straight, and a lacking thing is not able to be numbered.ವಕ್ರ ವಾದದ್ದು ಸರಿಮಾಡುವದಕ್ಕೆ ಆಗುವದಿಲ್ಲ; ಇಲ್ಲದ್ದನ್ನು ಲೆಕ್ಕಿಸುವದು ಅಸಾಧ್ಯ.

16 I -- I spake with my heart, saying, `I, lo, I have magnified and added wisdom above every one who hath been before me at Jerusalem, and my heart hath seen abundantly wisdom and knowledge.ನಾನು ನನ್ನ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಯೋಚಿಸುತ್ತಾ--ಇಗೋ, ನಾನು ದೊಡ್ಡ ಸ್ಥಾನಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದಿದ್ದೇನೆ ಯೆರೂಸಲೇಮಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನನಗಿಂತ ಮುಂಚೆ ಇದ್ದವರೆಲ್ಲರಿಗಿಂತ ನಾನು ಜ್ಞಾನವನ್ನು ಸಂಪಾದಿಸಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಹೌದು, ಜ್ಞಾನದ ತಿಳುವಳಿಕೆಯ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಅನುಭವವು ನನ್ನ ಹೃದಯಕ್ಕೆ ಆಯಿತು ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದೆನು.

17 And I give my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I have known that even this `is' vexation of spirit;ಜ್ಞಾನ ವನ್ನೂ ಹುಚ್ಚುತನವನ್ನೂ ಬುದ್ಧಿಹೀನತೆಯನ್ನೂ ತಿಳು ಕೊಳ್ಳುವಂತೆ ನಾನು ಮನಸ್ಸಿಟ್ಟೆನು; ಇದು ಸಹ ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ಆಯಾಸವೆಂದು ನಾನು ಅರಿತುಕೊಂಡೆನು.

18 for, in abundance of wisdom `is' abundance of sadness, and he who addeth knowledge addeth pain.'ಬಹು ಜ್ಞಾನವಿದ್ದಲ್ಲಿ ದುಃಖ; ತಿಳುವಳಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳು ವವನು ತನ್ನ ವ್ಯಥೆಯನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾನೆ.
