જયારે નેગેબમાંરહેતા અરાદના કનાની રાજાએ સાંભળ્યું કે ઇસ્રાએલી પ્રજા અથારીમ તરફ જઈ રહી છે ત્યારે તેણે પોતાના સૈન્યને એકત્ર કરીને તેમના ઉપર હુમલો કરીને તેમાંના કેટલાકને બંદીવાન તરીકે પકડી લીધાં.
