1 Now when morning had come, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:બીજા દિવસની વહેલી સવારે, બધા મુખ્ય યાજકો અને લોકોના વડીલો ભેગા થયા અને ઈસુને મારી નાખવાની યોજના કરી.

2 and they bound him, and led him away, and delivered him up to Pontius Pilate, the governor.તેઓએ ઈસુને સાંકળોએ બાંધ્યો. પછી તેને લઈ જઈને પિલાત હાકેમને સુપ્રત કર્યો.

3 Then Judas, who betrayed him, when he saw that Jesus was condemned, felt remorse, and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,યહૂદાએ જોયું કે તેઓએ ઈસુને મારી નાખવાનું નક્કી કર્યુ છે. યહૂદા ઈસુને તેના દુશ્મનોને સોંપનારાઓમાંનો એક હતો. જ્યારે યહૂદાઓ શું બન્યું તે જોયું ત્યારે તેણે જે કંઈ કર્યુ હતું તે માટે ઘણો દિલગીર થયો. તેથી તે મુખ્ય યાજકો તથા વડીલ આગેવાનો પાસે 30 ચાંદીના સિક્કા પાછા લાવ્યો.

4 saying, "I have sinned in that I betrayed innocent blood." But they said, "What is that to us? You see to it."યહૂદાએ કહ્યું, “મેં પાપ કર્યુ છે, મે એક નિર્દોષ માણસને મારી નાખવા આપ્યો છે.”યહૂદી આગેવાનોએ ઉત્તર આપ્યો, “અમને કોઈ ચિંતા નથી! તે પ્રશ્ન તારો છે. અમારો નથી.”

5 He threw down the pieces of silver in the sanctuary, and departed. He went away and hanged himself.તેથી યહૂદાએ પૈસા મંદિરમાં ફેંક્યા. પછી યહૂદાએ તે સ્થળ છોડ્યું અને પોતે જાતે લટકીને ફાંસો ખાધો.

6 The chief priests took the pieces of silver, and said, "It's not lawful to put them into the treasury, since it is the price of blood."મુખ્ય યાજકોએ મંદિરમાંથી ચાંદીના સિક્કા ઊંચકી લીઘા. તેઓએ કહ્યું, “અમારો કાયદો આ પૈસાને મંદિરના ભંડારમાં રાખવાની પરવાનગી આપતો નથી, કારણ કે આ પૈસા માણસના મરણ માટે આપવામાં આવ્યા છે.”

7 They took counsel, and bought the potter's field with them, to bury strangers in.તેથી તેઓએ એક ખેતર જે કુંભારના ખેતરના નામે ઓળખાય છે તે આ પૈસાથી ખરીદવાનું નક્કી કર્યુ. જે લોકો યરૂશાલેમની મુલાકાતે આવતાં મરણ પામતાં તેઓને માટે દફનાવવાની જગ્યા તરીકે તે ખેતર ઉપયોગમાં લેવાશે.

8 Therefore that field was called "The Field of Blood" to this day.તેના કારણે હજુ પણ તે લોહીના ખેતર તરીકે ઓળખાય છે.

9 Then that which was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled, saying, "They took the thirty pieces of silver, The price of him upon whom a price had been set, Whom some of the children of Israel priced,તેથી પ્રબોધક યર્મિયાએ જે કહ્યું તે આ રીતે વચન પૂરું થયું:“તેઓએ 30 ચાંદીના સિક્કા લીધા. તેના જીવન માટે યહૂદિ લોકોએ આ કિંમત ઠરાવેલી હતી.

10 And they gave them for the potter's field, As the Lord commanded me."તેઓએ તે 30 ચાંદીના સિક્કાઓનો કુંભારનું ખેતર ખરીદવા માટે ઉપયોગ કર્યો. પ્રભુએ તેનો મને હુકમ કર્યો હતો.

11 Now Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, "Are you the King of the Jews?" Jesus said to him, "So you say."ઈસુ હાકેમ પિલાત સમક્ષ ઊભો રહ્યો. પિલાતે તેને પ્રશ્ર્નો પૂછયાં, તેણે કહ્યું, “શું તું યહૂદિઓનો રાજા છે?”ઈસુએ ઉત્તર આપ્યો, “હા, હું છું.”

12 When he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing.જ્યારે મુખ્ય યાજક અને વડીલ યહૂદિ આગેવાનોએ ઈસુ પર આરોપો મૂક્યા. તેણે કંઈ જ કહ્યું નહિ.

13 Then Pilate said to him, "Don't you hear how many things they testify against you?"તેથી પિલાતે ઈસુને કહ્યું, “તું આ લોકોને તારી આ બધી બાબતો માટે આરોપ મૂકતા સાંભળે છે, તું શા માટે ઉત્તર આપતો નથી?”

14 He gave him no answer, not even one word, so that the governor marveled greatly.પરંતુ ઈસુએ પિલાતને ઉત્તરમાં કંઈ જ કહ્યું નહિ. આથી પિલાત ઘણો જ આશ્ચર્યચકિત થયો.

15 Now at the feast the governor was accustomed to release to the multitude one prisoner, whom they desired.પ્રતિ વર્ષ પાસ્ખાપર્વના સમયે હાકેમ કેદમાંથી એક વ્યક્તિને મુક્ત કરતો. હંમેશા લોકો જે વ્યક્તિને ઈચ્છે તેને મુક્ત કરવામાં આવતો.

16 They had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.તે સમયે ત્યાં કેદમાં એક માણસ હતો જે ઘણો કુખ્યાત હતો. તેનું નામ બરબ્બાસ હતું.

17 When therefore they were gathered together, Pilate said to them, "Whom do you want me to release to you? Barabbas, or Jesus, who is called Christ?"બધા લોકો પિલાતને ઘરે ભેગા થયા. પિલાતે લોકોને કહ્યું, “હું તમારા માટે એક માણસને મુક્ત કરીશ. તમે ક્યા માણસને મારી પાસે મુક્ત કરાવવા ઈચ્છો છો? બરબ્બાસ કે, ઈસુ જે ખ્રિસ્ત કહેવાય છે તેને?”

18 For he knew that because of envy they had delivered him up.પિલાતે જાણ્યું કે લોકોએ ઈસુને અદેખાઈને કારણે તેને સોંપ્યો.

19 While he was sitting on the judgment seat, his wife sent to him, saying, "Have nothing to do with that righteous man, for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him."પિલાત જ્યારે ન્યાયાસન પર બેઠો હતો ત્યારે તેણે આ બાબતો કહીં. જ્યારે તે ત્યાં બેઠો હતો ત્યારે તેની પત્નીએ તેને સંદેશો મોકલ્યો. સંદેશામાં કહ્યું, “તે માણસ સાથે કંઈ જ કરીશ નહિ, તે માણસ નિર્દોષ છે. આજે મને તેના વિષે સ્વપ્ન આવ્યું હતું, અને તેનાથી મને ઘણું દુ:ખ થયું.”

20 Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the multitudes to ask for Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.પરંતુ મુખ્ય યાજકો અને વડીલ યહૂદી નેતાઓએ લોકોને સમજાવ્યા કે બરબ્બાસને મુક્ત કરવો અને ઈસુને મારી નાખવા વિનંતી કરો.

21 But the governor answered them, "Which of the two do you want me to release to you?" They said, "Barabbas!"પિલાતે કહ્યું, “મારી પાસે બરબ્બાસ અને ઈસુ છે. મારી પાસેથી આ બેમાંથી તમારા માટે કોને મુક્ત કરાવવા ઈચ્છો છો?”લોકોએ ઉત્તર આપ્યો, “બરબ્બાસને!

22 Pilate said to them, "What then shall I do to Jesus, who is called Christ?" They all said to him, "Let him be crucified!"પિલાતે પૂછયું, “તો જે એક ખ્રિસ્ત કહેવાય છે, મારે તેની સાથે શું કરવું જોઈએ?પણ બધા લોકોએ ઉત્તર આપ્યો, “તેને વધસ્તંભ પર મારી નાખો!”

23 But the governor said, "Why? What evil has he done?" But they cried out exceedingly, saying, "Let him be crucified!"પિલાતે પૂછયું, “તમે શા માટે મારી પાસે તેને મારી નંખાવવા ઈચ્છો છો? તેણે શું ખોટું કહ્યું છે.પરંતુ બધા લોકોએ મોટે સાદે બૂમો પાડવાનું ચાલું રાખ્યું, “તેને વધસ્તંભ પર મારી નાખો!

24 So when Pilate saw that nothing was being gained, but rather that a disturbance was starting, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, "I am innocent of the blood of this righteous person. You see to it."પિલાતે જોયું કે લોકોને વિચાર બદલવા માટે તે કંઈ કરી શકે તેમ નથી અને તેણે જોયું કે લોકો બેચેન થઈ રહ્યા હતા. તેથી પિલાતે થોડું પાણી લઈને હાથ ધોયા. જેથી તે બધા લોકો જોઈ શકે. પછી પિલાતે કહ્યું, “હું આ માણસના મરણ માટે દોષિત નથી. તમે જ તેમાંના એક છો જે તે કરી રહ્યાં છો!”

25 All the people answered, "May his blood be on us, and on our children!"બધા લોકોએ ઉત્તર આપ્યો, “અમે તેના મરણ માટે જવાબદાર છીએ. અમે અમારી જાત માટે, તથા અમારા બાળકો માટે તેના મરણ માટેની કોઈપણ શિક્ષાનો સ્વીકાર કરીએ છીએ.”

26 Then he released to them Barabbas, but Jesus he flogged and delivered to be crucified.પિલાતે તેમના માટે બરબ્બાસને મુક્ત કર્યો. પિલાતે કેટલાક સૈનિકને ઈસુને ચાબુક વડે મારવા કહ્યું. પછી પિલાતે ઈસુને વધસ્તંભ પર મારી નાખવા માટે સૈનિકોને સુપ્રત કર્યો.

27 Then the governor's soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium, and gathered the whole garrison together against him.પછી પિલાતના સૈનિકો ઈસુને હાકેમના મહેલમાં લાવ્યા. બધા સૈનિકો ઈસુને આજુબાજુ ઘેરી વળ્યા.

28 They stripped him, and put a scarlet robe on him.સૈનિકોએ ઈસુનાં વસ્ત્રો ઉતારી નાખ્યાં અને લાલ ઝભ્ભો તેને પહેરાવ્યો.

29 They braided a crown of thorns and put it on his head, and a reed in his right hand; and they kneeled down before him, and mocked him, saying, "Hail, King of the Jews!"પછી સૈનિકો મુગટ બનાવવા માટે કાંટાળી ડાળીઓનો ઉપયોગ કર્યો. તેઓએ આ કાંટાનો મુગટ ઈસુનાં માથા પર મૂક્યો, અને તેના જમણાં હાથમાં તેઓએ એક લાકડી મૂકી. પછી તે સૈનિકો ઈસુ આગળ નમ્યા અને તેની મશ્કરી કરવા લાગ્યા. તેઓએ કહ્યું, “ઓ યહૂદિઓના રાજા, સલામ!”

30 They spat on him, and took the reed and struck him on the head.સૈનિકો ઈસુ પર થૂંક્યા. પછી તેઓએ તેની લાકડી લીધી અને તેને માથામાં ઘણી વાર મારી.

31 When they had mocked him, they took the robe off of him, and put his clothes on him, and led him away to crucify him.તેઓએ ઈસુની મશ્કરી કરી રહ્યા પછી, સૈનિકોએ ઝભ્ભો ઉતારી લીધો અને ફરીથી તેને તેનાં પોતાનાં કપડાં પહેરાવ્યા. પછી તેઓ ઈસુને વધસ્તંભ જડવા માટે દૂર લઈ ગયા.

32 As they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name, and they compelled him to go with them, that he might carry his cross.સૈનિકો ઈસુ સાથે શહેરની બહાર જતા હતા. તે સૈનિકોએ બીજા માણસને ઈસુનો વધસ્તંભ લઈ જવા દબાણ કર્યુ. આ માણસનું નામ કુરેનીનો સિમોન હતું.

33 They came to a place called "Golgotha," that is to say, "The place of a skull."તેઓ ગુલગુથા નામના સ્થળે આવ્યા. (ગુલગુથાનો અર્થ ખોપરીની જગ્યા).

34 They gave him sour wine to drink mixed with gall. When he had tasted it, he would not drink.ગુલગુથામાં, સૈનિકોએ ઈસુને દ્રાક્ષારસ પીવા માટે આપ્યો. તે દ્રાક્ષારસમાં સરકો ભેળવેલો હતો. ઈસુએ દ્રાક્ષારસ ચાખ્યો પરંતુ તે પીવાની ના પાડી.

35 When they had crucified him, they divided his clothing among them, casting lots,{TR adds "that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet: 'They divided my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots;'" [see Psalm 22:18 and John 19:24]}સૈનિકોએ ઈસુને વધસ્તંભે જડ્યો. પછી તેઓએ તેનાં લૂગડાં કોને મળે તે માટે સિક્કા ઉછાળ્યા.

36 and they sat and watched him there.સૈનિકો ત્યાં બેઠા અને ઈસુની ચોકી કરવા લાગ્યા.

37 They set up over his head the accusation against him written, "THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS."સૈનિકોએ તેના વિરૂદ્ધનું તહોમતનામું ઈસુના માથા પર મૂક્યું, તેમાં લખેલું હતુ: “આ ઈસુ છે, જે યહૂદિઓનો રાજા છે.”

38 Then there were two robbers crucified with him, one on his right hand and one on the left.બે લૂટારાઓને ઈસુની બાજુમાં વધસ્તંભ પર જડ્યા હતા. એક લૂટારાને ઈસુની જમણી બાજુએ અને બીજાને ડાબી બાજુએ રાખ્યો હતો.

39 Those who passed by blasphemed him, wagging their heads,ઈસુની બાજુમાંથી પસાર થતા લોકો તેની મશ્કરી કરતાં હતા. લોકોએ તેમના માથાં હલાવ્યા.

40 and saying, "You who destroy the temple, and build it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross!"અને કહ્યું, “તેં કહ્યું હતું કે મંદિરનો નાશ કરીને તેને ત્રણ દિવસમાં બાંધી શકે છે. તેથી તારી જાતને બચાવ! જો તું ખરેખર દેવનો દીકરો હોય તો વધસ્તંભ પરથી નીચે ઉતર!”

41 Likewise the chief priests also mocking, with the scribes, the Pharisees,{TR omits "the Pharisees"} and the elders, said,મુખ્ય યાજકો, શાસ્ત્રીઓ અને વડીલો યહૂદિ આગેવાનો પણ ત્યાં હતા. આ માણસો પણ બીજા લોકોની જેમ ઈસુની મશ્કરી કરતાં હતા.

42 "He saved others, but he can't save himself. If he is the King of Israel, let him come down from the cross now, and we will believe in him.તેઓએ કહ્યું, “તેણે બીજા લોકોને બચાવ્યા, પણ તે તેની જાતને બચાવી શક્તો નથી. લોકો કહે છે તે ઈસ્રાએલનો રાજા છે. (યહૂદિઓનો) જો તે રાજા હોય તો તેને હવે વધસ્તંભ પરથી નીચે આવવું જોઈએ. પછી અમે તેનામાં વિશ્વાસ મૂકીશું.

43 He trusts in God. Let God deliver him now, if he wants him; for he said, 'I am the Son of God.'"તેણે દેવમાં વિશ્વાસ મૂક્યો છે. દેવ તેને ખરેખર ઈચ્છતો હોય તો દેવને તેનો છૂટકારો કરવા દો. તેણે તેની જાતે કહ્યું છે કે, “હું દેવનો દીકરો છું.”

44 The robbers also who were crucified with him cast on him the same reproach.અને તે જ રીતે, લૂંટરાઓ જે ઈસુની નજીક વધસ્તંભ પર મારી નંખાવા લટકાવવામાં આવ્યાં હતા તેમણે પણ ઈસુની મશ્કરી કરી.

45 Now from the sixth hour{noon} there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour.{3:00 P. M.}મધ્યાહને આખા દેશમાં અંધકાર છવાઈ ગયો. આ અંધકાર ત્રણ કલાક ચાલુ રહ્યો.

46 About the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, "Eli, Eli, lima{TR reads "lama" instead of "lima"} sabachthani?" That is, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"લગભગ ત્રણ વાગે ઈસુએ મોટા અવાજ સાથે બૂમ પાડી કે “એલી, એલી, લમા શબક્થની?” આનો અર્થ છે, “મારા દેવ, મારા દેવ, તેં મને શા માટે એકલો છોડી દીધો?”

47 Some of them who stood there, when they heard it, said, "This man is calling Elijah."ત્યાં ઊભા રહેલા કેટલાક લોકોએ આ સાંભળ્યું. લોકોએ કહ્યું, “તે એલિયાને બોલાવે છે.”

48 Immediately one of them ran, and took a sponge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him a drink.લોકોમાંના એકે ઝડપથી દોડીને એક વાદળી લીધી અને તેણે વાદળીને સરકાથી ભરી અને તે વાદળીને લાકડી સાથે બાંધી. પછી તેણે તે લાકડીનો ઉપયોગ કરીને ઈસુને વાદળી ચૂસવા માટે આપી.

49 The rest said, "Let him be. Let's see whether Elijah comes to save him."પણ બીજા લોકોએ કહ્યું, “તેની (ઈસુ) ચિંતા કરશો નહિ. અમને જોવા દો કે એલિયા એને છોડાવવા આવે છે કે કેમ.”

50 Jesus cried again with a loud voice, and yielded up his spirit.ફરીથી ઈસુએ મોટા સાદે, બૂમ પાડી. પછી તે મરણ પામ્યો.

51 Behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from the top to the bottom. The earth quaked and the rocks were split.જ્યારે ઈસુ મરણ પામ્યો, ત્યારે મંદિરનો પડદો ઉપરથી નીચે બે ભાગમાં ફાટી ગયો. પડદો ટોચ પરથી શરૂ થઈ અને તે નીચે સુધી ફાટી ગયો અને ધરતી પણ કાંપી અને ખડકો ફાટી ગયા.

52 The tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised;બધી કબરો ઉઘડી અને દેવના સંતોમાંના ઘણા જે મરણ પામ્યા હતા, તે ઊભા થયા.

53 and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection, they entered into the holy city and appeared to many.ઈસુના મરણમાંથી ઊઠયા બાદ પેલા લોકો પવિત્ર શહેરમાં ગયા અને ઘણા લોકોએ તેને જોયો.

54 Now the centurion, and those who were with him watching Jesus, when they saw the earthquake, and the things that were done, feared exceedingly, saying, "Truly this was the Son of God."લશ્કરના અમલદારો અને તેના માણસો જે ઈસુની ચોકી કરતા હતા તેમણે ધરતીકંપ અને આ બધું થયેલું જોયું. તે ઘણા ગભરાઈ ગયા હતા અને કહ્યું, “ખરેખર તે દેવનો દીકરો હતો!”

55 Many women were there watching from afar, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, serving him.ઘણી સ્ત્રીઓ વધસ્તંભથી દૂર ઊભી રહીને જોતી હતી. આ સ્ત્રીઓ ઈસુ સાથે ગાલીલમાંથી આવી હતી. અને તેની સેવા કરતી હતી.

56 Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.તેઓમાં મગ્દલાની મરિયમ, યાકૂબ તથા યોસેની મા મરિયમ, તથા ઝબદીના પુત્રોની મા હતી.

57 When evening had come, a rich man from Arimathaea, named Joseph, who himself was also Jesus' disciple came.તે સાંજે યૂસફ નામનો એક ધનવાન યરૂશાલેમમાં આવ્યો. અરિમથાઈના શહેરમાંથી યૂસફ ઈસુનો એક શિષ્ય હતો.

58 This man went to Pilate, and asked for Jesus' body. Then Pilate commanded the body to be given up.યૂસફ પિલાત પાસે ગયો અને ઈસુનો દેહ તેને આપવા કહ્યું. પિલાતે ઈસુનો દેહ યૂસફને આપવા માટે સૈનિકોને હુકમ કર્યો.

59 Joseph took the body, and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,યૂસફે દેહ લીધા પછી શણના સફેદ વસ્ત્રોમાં વીટંાળ્યો.

60 and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock, and he rolled a great stone to the door of the tomb, and departed.યૂસફે ઈસુના દેહને એક નવી કબરમાં મૂક્યો. યૂસફે એક ખડકની દિવાલમાં તે કબર ખોદી હતી. પછી તેણે એક મોટા પથ્થરને ગબડાવી પ્રવેશદ્વારને ઢાંકી દીધું. આ પ્રમાણે કર્યા પછી યૂસફ ચાલ્યો ગયો.

61 Mary Magdalene was there, and the other Mary, sitting opposite the tomb.મગ્દલાની મરિયમ અને મરિયમ નામની બીજી સ્ત્રી કબરની નજીક બેઠી હતી.

62 Now on the next day, which was the day after the Preparation Day, the chief priests and the Pharisees were gathered together to Pilate,તે દિવસ સિદ્ધિકરણ દિવસ કહેવાતો હતો. બીજે દિવસે મુખ્ય યાજકો અને ફરોશીઓ પિલાત પાસે ગયા.

63 saying, "Sir, we remember what that deceiver said while he was still alive: 'After three days I will rise again.'તેઓએ કહ્યું, “સાહેબ, અમે યાદ કરીએ છીએ કે, જ્યારે તે ઠગ જીવતો હતો ત્યારે તે કહેતો હતો કે ત્રણ દહાડા પછી હું મરણમાંથી સજીવન થઈશ.’

64 Command therefore that the tomb be made secure until the third day, lest perhaps his disciples come at night and steal him away, and tell the people, 'He is risen from the dead;' and the last deception will be worse than the first."તેથી ત્રણ દહાડા સુધી કબરની ચોકી કરવાનો હુકમ કર. તેના શિષ્યો આવે અને કદાચ લાશને ચોરી જાય. પછી તેઓ લોકોને કહેશે કે તે મરણમાંથી સજીવન થયો છે. આ ભૂલ તેઓએ પહેલા તેના વિષે જે કહ્યું હતું તેનાં કરતાં વધારે ખરાબ હશે.”

65 Pilate said to them, "You have a guard. Go, make it as secure as you can."પિલાતે કહ્યું, “થોડાક સૈનિકો લઈ જાવ અને જાઓ અને તમે જે ઉત્તમ રીત જાણતા હોય તે રીતે કબરની ચોકી કરો.”

66 So they went with the guard and made the tomb secure, sealing the stone.તેથી તેઓ બધા કબર પાસે ગયા અને તેને ચોકીદારોથી સુરક્ષિત કરી. તેઓએ કબરના મુખ પર મોટો પથ્થર મૂકી સીલ માર્યું અને ત્યાં રક્ષણ માટે ચોકીદારો મૂક્યા.
