1 And he began to speak to them in similes: `A man planted a vineyard, and put a hedge around, and digged an under-winevat, and built a tower, and gave it out to husbandmen, and went abroad;ઈસુ લોકોને ઉપદેશ આપવા માટે વાર્તાઓનો ઉપયોગ કરતો. ‘એક માણસે એક ખેતરમાં દ્રાક્ષાવાડી રોપી અને તે માણસે ખેતરની આજુબાજુ દિવાલ બનાવી. અને એક ખાડો ખોદી દ્રાક્ષાકુંડ બનાવ્યો. પછીતે માણસે બુરજ બાંધ્યો. તે માણસે કેટલાક ખેડૂતોને ખેતર ઇજારે આપ્યું. પછી તે માણસ પ્રવાસ માટે વિદાય થયો.

2 and he sent unto the husbandmen at the due time a servant, that from the husbandmen he may receive from the fruit of the vineyard,‘થોડા વખત પછી, દ્રાક્ષ ચૂંટવાનો સમય આવ્યો. તેથી તે માણસે તેનો દ્રાક્ષનો ભાગ લેવા માટે એક નોકરને ખેડૂત પાસે મોકલ્યો.

3 and they, having taken him, did severely beat `him', and did send him away empty.પરંતુ તે ખેડૂતોએ નોકરને ખાલી હાથે કાઢી મૂક્યો.

4 `And again he sent unto them another servant, and at that one having cast stones, they wounded `him' in the head, and sent away -- dishonoured.પછી તે માણસે બીજા એક નોકરને ખેડૂતો પાસે મોકલ્યો. તે ખેડૂતોએ તેનું માંથુ ફોડી નાખ્યું. તેઓએ તેને માટે કોઈ માન બતાવ્યું નહિ.

5 `And again he sent another, and that one they killed; and many others, some beating, and some killing.તેથી તે માણસે બીજા એક નોકરને મોકલ્યો. તે ખેડૂતોએ આ નોકરને મારી નાખ્યો. તે માણસે ઘણા બીજા નોકરોને ખેડૂત પાસે મોકલ્યો. તે ખેડૂતોએ કેટલાક ખેડૂતોને માર્યા અને બીજાઓને મારી નાખ્યા.’

6 `Having yet therefore one son -- his beloved -- he sent also him unto them last, saying -- They will reverence my son;‘તે માણસ પાસે ખેડૂતોની પાસે મોકલવા એક વ્યક્તિ જ રહી. આ વ્યક્તિ તે માણસનો પુત્ર હતો. તે માણસ તેના દીકરાને ચાહતો હતો. પરંતુ તે માણસે પુત્રને ખેડૂતો પાસે મોકલવાનો નિર્ણય કર્યો. પુત્ર એ છેલ્લી વ્યક્તિ હતી જેને તે મોકલી શકે તે માણસે કહ્યું, ‘તે ખેડૂતો મારા પુત્રને માન આપશે.’

7 and those husbandmen said among themselves -- This is the heir, come, we may kill him, and ours shall be the inheritance;‘પણ ખેડૂતોએ એકબીજાને કહ્યું, ‘આ ધણીનો પુત્ર છે. જો આપણે તેને મારી નાખીશું. તો પછી તેનું ખેતર આપણું થશે.’

8 and having taken him, they did kill, and cast `him' forth without the vineyard.તેથી તે ખેડૂતોએ તે પુત્રને મારી નાખ્યો. અને તેને ખેતરની બહાર ફેંકી દીધો.

9 `What therefore shall the lord of the vineyard do? he will come and destroy the husbandmen, and will give the vineyard to others.‘તેથી જે ખેતરનો ધણી હતો તે શું કરશે? તે ખેતરમાં જશે અને પેલા ખેડૂતોને મારી નાખશે. પછીતે બીજા ખેડૂતોને તે ખેતર આપશે.

10 And this Writing did ye not read: A stone that the builders rejected, it did become the head of a corner:ખરેખર તમે આ શાસ્ત્ર વાંચ્યો છે: ‘જે પથ્થરનો બાંધકામ કરનારાઓએ અસ્વીકાર કર્યો. તે ખૂણાના માથાળાનો (પથ્થર) થયો.

11 from the Lord was this, and it is wonderful in our eyes.'પ્રભુ આ બધુ કર્યુ છે, અને તે આપણા માટે અદભુત છે.”‘ ગીતશાસ્ત્ર 8:22-23

12 And they were seeking to lay hold on him, and they feared the multitude, for they knew that against them he spake the simile, and having left him, they went away;આ યહૂદિ આગેવાનોએ આ વાર્તા સાંભળી જે ઈસુએ કહી. તેઓએ જાણ્યું કે આ વાર્તા તેઓના વિષે હતી. તેથી તેઓ ઈસુને પકડવાની યુક્તિ શોધવા ઈચ્છતા હતા. પરંતુ તેઓ લોકોથી બીતા હતા. તેથી તે યહૂદિ આગેવાનો ઈસુને છોડીને ચાલ્યા ગયા.

13 and they send unto him certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, that they may ensnare him in discourse,પાછળથી, યહૂદિ આગેવાનોએ કેટલાક ફરોશીઓને અને હેરોદીઓના નામે જાણીતા સમુહમાંથી કેટલાક માણસોએ ઈસુ પાસે મોકલ્યા. તેઓ ઈસુને કઈક ખોટું કહેતા પકડવા ઈચ્છતા હતા.

14 and they having come, say to him, `Teacher, we have known that thou art true, and thou art not caring for any one, for thou dost not look to the face of men, but in truth the way of God dost teach; is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar or not? may we give, or may we not give?'ફરોશીઓ અને હેરોદીઓ ઈસુ પાસે ગયા અને કહ્યું, ‘ઉપદેશક, અમે જાણીએ છીએ કે તું એક પ્રમાણિક માણસ છે. તું તારા વિષે બીજા લોકો જે વિચારે છે તેની જરા પણ દરકાર કરીશ નહિ. બધા માણસો તારી પાસે સરખા છે. અને તું દેવના માર્ગ વિષે સાચો ઉપદેશ આપે છે. તો અમને કહે: કૈસરને કર આપવો ઉચિત છે? હા કે ના? આપણે કર આપવો જોઈએ કે આપણે કર ન આપવો જોઈએ?’

15 And he, knowing their hypocrisy, said to them, `Why me do ye tempt? bring me a denary, that I may see;'પણ ઈસુએ જાણ્યું કે આ માણસો ખરેખર તેને પરીક્ષણનો પ્રયત્ન કરતા હતા. ઈસુએ કહ્યું, ‘તમે શા માટે મને કઈક ખોટું કહેતા પકડવાનો પ્રયત્ન કરો છો? મને એક ચાંદીનો સિક્કો લાવી આપો. મને તે જોવા દો.’

16 and they brought, and he saith to them, `Whose `is' this image, and the inscription?' and they said to him, `Caesar's;'તેઓએ ઈસુને એક સિક્કો આપ્યો અને ઈસુએ પૂછયું, ‘સિક્કા પર કોનું ચિત્ર છે? અને તેના પર કોનું નામ લખેલું છે?’ તેઓએ જવાબ આપ્યો, ‘તે કૈસરનું ચિત્ર છે અને કૈસરનું નામ છે.’

17 and Jesus answering said to them, `Give back the things of Caesar to Caesar, and the things of God to God;' and they did wonder at him.પછી ઈસુએ તેઓને કહ્યું, ‘કૈસરની જે વસ્તુઓ છે તે કૈસરને આપો. અને દેવની જે વસ્તુઓ છે તે દેવને આપો.’ ઈસુએ જે કહ્યું તેથી તે માણસો નવાઇ પામ્યા.

18 And the Sadducees come unto him, who say there is not a rising again, and they questioned him, saying,પછી કેટલાક સદૂકીઓ ઈસુ પાસે આવ્યા. (સદૂકીઓ માને છે કે કોઈ વ્યક્તિ મૂએલામાંથી ઊઠી શકે નહિ.) સદૂકીઓએ ઈસુને એક પ્રશ્ન પૂછયો.

19 `Teacher, Moses wrote to us, that if any one's brother may die, and may leave a wife, and may leave no children, that his brother may take his wife, and raise up seed to his brother.તેઓએ કહ્યું, ‘ઉપદેશક, મૂસાએ લખ્યું છે કે જો કોઈ પરિણિત માણસ મૃત્યુ પામે અને તેને બાળકો ન હોય, તો પછી તેના ભાઈએ તે સ્ત્રીને પરણવું જોઈએ. પછી તેઓને તેના મૃત ભાઈ માટે બાળકો થશે.

20 `There were then seven brothers, and the first took a wife, and dying, he left no seed;ત્યાં સાત ભાઈઓ હતા. પહેલો ભાઈ પરણ્યો પણ મરી ગયો. તેને બાળકો ન હતા.

21 and the second took her, and died, neither left he seed, and the third in like manner,તેથી બીજો ભાઈ તે સ્ત્રીને પરણ્યો. પણ તે પણ મૃત્ય પામ્યો અને તેને બાળકો ન હતા. એ જ બાબત ત્રીજા ભાઈ સાથે બની.

22 and the seven took her, and left no seed, last of all died also the woman;બધા સાત ભાઈઓ તે સ્ત્રીને પરણ્યા અને મૃત્યુ પામ્યા. ભાઈઓમાંના કોઈનાથી તે સ્ત્રીને બાળકો ન થયા અને છેલ્લે તે સ્ત્રી પણ મરી ગઈ.

23 in the rising again, then, whenever they may rise, of which of them shall she be wife -- for the seven had her as wife?'પણ બધા સાત ભાઈઓ તેને પરણ્યા હતા તેથી મૃત્યુ પછી જ્યારે પુનરુંત્થાનનો સમય થશે ત્યારે, આ સ્ત્રી કોની પત્ની થશે?’

24 And Jesus answering said to them, `Do ye not because of this go astray, not knowing the Writings, nor the power of God?ઈસુએ ઉત્તર આપ્યો, ‘તમે આ ભૂલ શા માટે કરી? શાસ્ત્ર શું કહે છે તે તમે નથી જાણતા કારણ કે તમે દેવના સાર્મથ્ય વિષે નથી જાણતા.

25 for when they may rise out of the dead, they neither marry nor are they given in marriage, but are as messengers who are in the heavens.જ્યારે લોકો મૂએલામાંથી ઊઠશે ત્યારે ત્યાં એકબીજા સાથે લગ્ન કરશે નહિ. તેઓ આકાશમાંના દૂતો જેવા હશે.’

26 `And concerning the dead, that they rise: have ye not read in the Book of Moses (at The Bush), how God spake to him, saying, I `am' the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob;ખરેખર મૃત્યુ પામેલા લોકો પાછા ઊઠે છે તે વિષે દેવે શું કહ્યું છે તે તમે વાચ્યું છે. જ્યાં મૂસાએ પુસ્તકમાં સળગતી ઝાડી વિષે લખ્યું છે. તે કહે છે કે દેવે મૂસાને આ કહ્યું છે, ‘હું ઇબ્રાહિમનો, ઇસહાકનો અને યાકૂબનો દેવ છું.’

27 he is not the God of dead men, but a God of living men; ye then go greatly astray.'જો દેવે કહ્યું તે તેઓનો દેવ છે, તો પછી તે માણસો ખરેખર મરેલા નથી. તે ફક્ત જીવતા લોકોનો દેવ છે, તમે સદૂકીઓ ખોટા છો!’

28 And one of the scribes having come near, having heard them disputing, knowing that he answered them well, questioned him, `Which is the first command of all?'શાસ્ત્રીઓમાંનો એક ઈસુ પાસે આવ્યો. તેણે ઈસુને સદૂકીઓ અને ફરોશીઓ સાથે દલીલો કરતા સાંભળ્યો. તેણે જોયું કે ઈસુએ તેમના પ્રશ્નોના સારા ઉત્તર આપ્યા. તેથી તેણે ઈસુને પૂછયું, ‘કંઈ આજ્ઞઓ સૌથી મહત્વની છે?’

29 and Jesus answered him -- `The first of all the commands `is', Hear, O Israel, the Lord is our God, the Lord is one;ઈસુએ ઉત્તર આપ્યો, ‘સૌથી વધારે મહત્વની આજ્ઞાઆ છે: ‘ઈસ્ત્રાએલના લોકો, ધ્યાનથી સાંભળો! પ્રભુ આપણો દેવ છે તે ફક્ત પ્રભુ છે.

30 and thou shalt love the Lord thy God out of all thy heart, and out of thy soul, and out of all thine understanding, and out of all thy strength -- this `is' the first command;તારે પ્રભુ તારા દેવને પ્રેમ કરવો જોઈએ. તારે તેને તારા પૂરા હ્રદયથી, ને તારા પૂરા જીવથી, ને તારા પૂરા મનથી, ને તારા પૂરા સામર્થ્યથી પ્રેમ કરવો જોઈએ.

31 and the second `is' like `it', this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself; -- greater than these there is no other command.'બીજી સૌથી મહત્વની આજ્ઞા આ છે: ‘તું તારી જાતને પ્રેમ કરે છે તે જ રીતે તારે તારા પડોશી પર પ્રેમ કરવો જોઈએ.’ આ બે આજ્ઞાઓ સૌથી અગત્યની છે.’

32 And the scribe said to him, `Well, Teacher, in truth thou hast spoken that there is one God, and there is none other but He;તે માણસે ઉત્તર આપ્યો. ‘તે એક સારો ઉત્તર હતો. ઉપદેશક, જ્યારે તેં આ બાબતો કહી તું સાચો હતો. દેવ જ ફક્ત પ્રભુ છે, અને બીજો કોઈ દેવ નથી.

33 and to love Him out of all the heart, and out of all the understanding, and out of all the soul, and out of all the strength, and to love one's neighbor as one's self, is more than all the whole burnt-offerings and the sacrifices.'અને વ્યક્તિએ દેવને પૂરા હૃદયથી, પૂરા મનથી, પૂરા સામર્થ્યથી પ્રીતિ કરવી જોઈએ. અને વ્યક્તિ તેની જાતને પ્રેમ કરે છે તે જ રીતે પડોશીને પ્રેમ કરવો જોઈએ. આ આજ્ઞાઓ, દેવને અર્પિત બઘા જ પ્રાણીઆ અને બલિદાનોથી વધારે મહત્વની છે.’

34 And Jesus, having seen him that he answered with understanding, said to him, `Thou art not far from the reign of God;' and no one any more durst question him.ઈસુએ જોયું કે માણસે તેને ડહાપણથી ઉત્તર આપ્યો. તેથી ઈસુએ માણસને કહ્યું, ‘તું દેવના રાજ્યની નજીક છે.’ અને તે પછી કોઈએ ઈસુને વધારે પ્રશ્નો પૂછવાની હિમ્મત ન કરી.

35 And Jesus answering said, teaching in the temple, `How say the scribes that the Christ is son of David?ઈસુ મંદિરમાં ઉપદેશ આપતો હતો. ઈસુએ પૂછયું, ‘શા માટે શાસ્ત્રીઓ કહે છે કે ખ્રિસ્ત એ દાઉદનો દીકરો છે?

36 for David himself said in the Holy Spirit, The Lord said to my lord, Sit thou on My right hand, till I place thine enemies -- thy footstool;પવિત્ર આત્માની મદદથી, દાઉદ તેની જાતે કહે છે: ‘પ્રભુએ (દેવ) મારા પ્રભુને (ખ્રિસ્તને) કહ્યું: મારી પાસે જમણી બાજુએ બેસ, અને હું તારા દુશ્મનોને તારા અંકુશમાં મૂકીશ.’ ગીતશાસ્ત્ર 110:1

37 therefore David himself saith of him Lord, and whence is he his son?' And the great multitude were hearing him gladly,દાઉદ તેની જાતે ખ્રિસ્તને ‘પ્રભુ’ કહે છે. તેથી ખ્રિસ્ત કેવી રીતે દાઉદનો દીકરો હોઇ શકે?’ ઘણા લોકોએ ઈસુને સાંભળ્યો અને તેઓ ઘણા ખુશ થયા હતા.

38 and he was saying to them in his teaching, `Beware of the scribes, who will in long robes to walk, and love salutations in the market-places,ઈસુએ ઉપદેશ આપવાનું ચાલુ રાખ્યું. ઈસુએ કહ્યું, ‘શાસ્ત્રીઓથી સાવધાન રહો. તેઓને કપડાં પહેરીને આજુબાજુ ફરવાનું જે મહત્વનું દેખાય, તે ગમે છે. અને લોકો બજારના સ્થળોએ તેમને માન આપે તે તેઓને ગમે છે.

39 and first seats in the synagogues, and first couches in suppers,તેઓને સભાસ્થાનોમાં સૌથી મહત્વની બેઠકો પ્રાપ્ત થાય, તે ગમે છે. અને મિજબાનીઓમાં પણ તેઓને સૌથી મહત્વની બેઠકો મળે તે ગમે છે.

40 who are devouring the widows' houses, and for a pretense are making long prayers; these shall receive more abundant judgment.'તેઓ વિધવાઓનાં સાધન અને તેમના ઘરો પડાવી લે છે. પછી તેઓ તેમની જાતે સારા દેખાવાનો પ્રયત્નો લાંબી પ્રાર્થનાઓ કરીને કરે છે. દેવ તેઓને ઘણી બધી શિક્ષા કરશે.’

41 And Jesus having sat down over-against the treasury, was beholding how the multitude do put brass into the treasury, and many rich were putting in much,ઈસુ મંદિરમાં દાનપેટી નજીક બેઠો, જ્યાં લોકો તેઓની ભેટો મૂકતા. લોકો પેટીમાં પૈસા આપતા.

42 and having come, a poor widow did put in two mites, which are a farthing.પછી એક ગરીબ વિધવા આવી અને તેણે બે ઘણા નાના તાંબાના સિક્કા આપ્યા. આ સિક્કાઓની કિંમત એક દમડી પણ ન હતી.

43 And having called near his disciples, he saith to them, `Verily I say to you, that this poor widow hath put in more than all those putting into the treasury;ઈસુએ તેના શિષ્યોને બોલાવ્યા. ઈસુએ કહ્યું, ‘હું તમને સાચું કહું છું. આ ગરીબ વિધવાએ ફક્ત બે નાના સિક્કા આપ્યા. પણ તેણે ખરેખર બધા ધનવાન માણસો કરતા વધારે આપ્યું છે.

44 for all, out of their abundance, put in, but she, out of her want, all that she had put in -- all her living.'આ લોકો પાસે પુષ્કળ છે. તેઓએ તો ફક્ત તેમને જેની જરુંર નથી તે જ આપ્યું. પણ તેણે તો તેના જીવન જીવવા માટે જરુંર હતું તે બધુજ નાણું આપ્યું.
