પછી મેં મારા અંત:કરણમાં શોધ કરી કે હું મારા દેહને દ્રાક્ષારસથી તરબોળ કરું, તેમ છતાં મારા અંત:કરણનું ડહાપણ તેવું ને તેવું જ રહે. વળી માણસોએ દુનિયા ઉપર પોતાના સઘળા આયુષ્ય પર્યંત શું કરવું સારું છે, તે મને સમજાય ત્યાં સુધી હું મૂર્ખાઇ ગ્રહણ કરું.

I sought תַּ֣רְתִּי tûr toor
in mine heart בְלִבִּ֔י lēb lave
to give לִמְשׁ֥וֹךְ māšak ma-SHAHK
unto wine, בַּיַּ֖יִן yayin ya-YEEN
אֶת ʾēt ate
myself בְּשָׂרִ֑י bāśār ba-SAHR
mine heart וְלִבִּ֞י lēb lave
yet acquainting נֹהֵ֤ג nāhag na-HAHɡ
with wisdom; בַּֽחָכְמָה֙ ḥokmâ hoke-MA
and to lay hold וְלֶאֱחֹ֣ז ʾāḥaz ah-HAHZ
on folly, בְּסִכְל֔וּת siklût seek-LOOT
till עַ֣ד ʿad ad
אֲשֶׁר ʾăšer uh-SHER
I might see אֶרְאֶ֗ה rāʾâ ra-AH
what אֵי ʾay ai
that זֶ֨ה ze zeh
good ט֜וֹב ṭôb tove
for the sons לִבְנֵ֤י bēn bane
of men, הָאָדָם֙ ʾādām ah-DAHM
which אֲשֶׁ֤ר ʾăšer uh-SHER
they should do יַעֲשׂוּ֙ ʿāśâ ah-SA
