1 And it came to pass after this, that Absalom the son of David having a beautiful sister, whose name was Tamar, Amnon the son of David loved her.દાઉદના પુત્ર આબ્શાલોમને તામાંર નામે એક સુંદર રૂપાળી બહેન હતી. દાઉદનો પુત્ર આમ્નોન તેના પ્રેમમાં પડયો.

2 And Amnon was so vexed, that he fell sick for his sister Tamar; for she was a virgin; and it seemed difficult for Amnon to do the least thing to her.આમ્નોનને તે ખૂબ સુંદર લાગી અને તામાંરની એવી મોહિની લાગી હતી કે તે માંદો પડયો, તામાંર કુમાંરિકા હતી અને આમ્નોનને તેને કંઈ અનિષ્ટ કરવાનું વિચાર્યુ નહિ પણ તેને તે જોઇતી જ હતી.

3 And Amnon had a friend whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David's brother; and Jonadab was a very shrewd man.પરંતુ યોનાદાબ જે દાઉદના ભાઈ શિમઆહનો પુત્ર હતો, તે તેનો મિત્ર હતો, તે ઘણો પાક્કો હતો.

4 And he said to him, Why dost thou, the king's son, get thinner from morning to morning? Wilt thou not tell me? And Amnon said to him, I love Tamar, my brother Absalom's sister.એક દિવસે તેણે આમ્નોનને કહ્યું, “ઓ રાજકુમાંર, તું દિવસે દિવસે આમ સુકાતો કેમ જાય છે? તું રાજાનો પુત્ર છે મને મહેરબાની કરીને કહે તો ખરો?”ત્યારે આમ્નોને કહ્યું, “હું માંરા ભાઈ આબ્શાલોમની બહેન તામાંરના પ્રેમમાં છું.”

5 And Jonadab said to him, Lay thee down on thy bed and feign thyself sick; and when thy father comes to see thee, say to him, I pray thee, let my sister Tamar come, and give me food, and dress the food in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it from her hand.યોનાદાબે કહ્યું, “હવે, શું કરવું તે હું તને કહીશ, તારા પલંગ પર સૂઈ જા, અને બિમાંર હોવાનો ઢોંગ કર. તારા પિતા તારી ખબર જોવા આવશે, અને જ્યારે તને જોવા આવે ત્યારે તેમને કહેજે કે, માંરી બહેન તામાંરને માંરા માંટે રોટલી પકવવાનું કહો, જ્યારે હું જોઉં અને તે મને પોતે જ પીરશે.”‘

6 So Amnon lay down and feigned himself sick; and the king came to see him, and Amnon said to the king, I pray thee, let Tamar my sister come, and make a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat from her hand.આથી આમ્નોન માંદો હોવાનો ઢોંગ કરીને સૂઈ ગયો. રાજા દાઉદ તેને મળવા ગયો એટલે આમ્નોને તેને કહ્યું, “માંરી બહેન તામાંરને અહીં આવીને માંરા દેખતાં એક ભાખરી બનાવી, પોતાને હાથે મને ખવડાવવા દો.”

7 And David sent home to Tamar, saying, Go, I pray thee, to thy brother Amnon's house, and dress him food.દાઉદ સહમત થયો અને તામાંરને સંદેશો મોકલ્યો કે, “તારા ભાઈ આમ્નોનને ઘેર જઈ તેના માંટે રસોઈ તૈયાર કર.”

8 And Tamar went to her brother Amnon's house; and he had lain down. And she took flour and kneaded it, and made cakes in his sight, and baked the cakes.તામાંર પોતાના ભાઈ આમ્નોનને ઘેર તેના શયનખંડમાં ગઈ, જેથી ભાખરી માંટે લોટ બાંધતા તે તેને જોઈ શકે. તેણે થોડો લોટ લીધો, ગૂંદ્યો અને તેના દેખતાં ભાખરી બનાવીને શેકી.

9 And she took the pan, and poured them out before him; but he refused to eat. And Amnon said, Put every man out from me. And they went out every man from him.પછી તેણે આમ્નોન આગળ થાળીમાં ભાખરી પીરસી, પણ તેણે ખાવાનો ઇન્કાર કર્યો, અને કહ્યું, “બધાને બહાર મોકલી દો.” એટલે બધા બહાર ચાલ્યા ગયા.

10 And Amnon said to Tamar, Bring the dish into the chamber, that I may eat of thy hand. And Tamar took the cakes that she had made, and brought them into the chamber to Amnon her brother.પછી તેણે તામાંરને કહ્યું, “હવે અહીં માંરા શયનખંડમાં ખાવાનું લઈ આવ, જેથી હું તારે હાથે ખાઈ શકું.” આથી તામાંરે પોતે બનાવેલી ભાખરી અંદરના ઓરડામાં તેના ભાઈ આમ્નોન પાસે લઈ ગઈ.

11 And she presented them to him to eat; and he took hold of her, and said to her, Come, lie with me, my sister.તામાંર તેને ખાવાનું આપવા ગઈ ત્યારે આમ્નોને તેને પકડી લીધી અને કહ્યું, “આવ, મને પ્રેમ કર, માંરી સાથે સૂઈ જા.”

12 And she said to him, No, my brother, do not humble me; for no such thing is done in Israel: do not this infamy.પણ તેણે કહ્યું, “ના, ભાઈ, મને નીચું જોવડાવશો નહિ આવું શરમજનક કરશો નહિ. ઇસ્રાએલમાં આ જાતની ભયંકર બાબત કદી થઇ નથી.

13 And I, whither shall I carry my reproach? and thou wouldest be as one of the infamous in Israel. And now, I pray thee, speak to the king; for he will not withhold me from thee.શરમની માંરી હું માંરું મોઢું કયાંય બતાવી શકીશ નહિ. અને તમે પણ ઇસ્રાએલમાં એક સામાંન્ય ગુનેગારમાં ખપશો. તમે રાજાને કહોને; મને તમાંરી સાથે પરણવા દે.”

14 But he would not hearken to her voice, and was stronger than she, and humbled her and lay with her.પણ તેણે તેની વાત સાંભળી નહિ, તેણે તેના ઉપર બળાત્કાર કરી તેની લાજ લીધી.

15 And Amnon hated her with an exceeding great hatred, for the hatred with which he hated her was greater than the love with which he had loved her. And Amnon said to her, Arise, be gone.પછી અચાનક આમ્નોનને તામાંર ઉપર તિરસ્કાર છૂટયો. પહેલાં એને માંટે જેટલો તેને પ્રેમ હતો હવે તેના કરતાં પણ વધારે તેના પ્રત્યે તિરસ્કાર થયો. તે બોલ્યો, “બેઠી થઈ જા અને અહીંથી તુરંત ચાલી જા.”

16 And she said to him, There is no cause for this evil in sending me away, [which] is greater than the other that thou didst to me. But he would not hearken to her.“ના, ભાઈ” તે બોલી, આ રીતે મને કાઢી મૂકવી એ તમે અત્યારે કર્યુ એના કરતાં પણ વધુ ખરાબ છે.”પણ તેણે એની વાત સાંભળી નહિ,

17 Then he called his young man that attended upon him, and said, Put now this [woman] out from me, and bolt the door after her.તેણે પોતાના અંગત નોકરને બોલાવીને હુકમ કર્યો, “આ સ્ત્રીને માંરા મોઢા આગળથી દૂર કર, એને બહાર કાઢ અને બારણું બંધ કરી દે.”

18 Now she had a vest of many colours upon her; for so were the king's daughters that were virgins apparelled. And his attendant brought her out, and bolted the door after her.નોકરે તેને બહાર કાઢીને બારણું બંધ કરી દીધું. તે દિવસોના રિવાજ મુજબ રાજાની કુંવરીઓ વિવિધ રંગનાલાંબા ઝભ્ભા પહેરતી હતી, તામાંરે પણ પહેર્યો હતો.

19 And Tamar put ashes on her head, and rent her vest of many colours which was on her, and laid her hand on her head, and went away, crying out as she went.તામાંરે પોતાનાં વસ્ત્રો ફાડયાં, પોતાના માંથામાં રાખ નાખી અને બંને હાથ પોતાના માંથા ઉપર મૂકી જોરથી પોક મૂકી રડતી રડતી તે ચાલી ગઈ.

20 And Absalom her brother said to her, Has Amnon thy brother been with thee? and now, my sister, be still: he is thy brother; take not this thing to heart. And Tamar remained, and [that] desolate, in her brother Absalom's house.તેના ભાઈ આબ્શાલોમે તેને પૂછયું, “તારા ભાઈ આમ્નોને તને ઇજા પહોંચાડી છે? કોઈને કહેતી નહિ, માંરી બહેન. ગમે તેમ તો તે તારો ભાઈ છે. તે માંટે રડીશ નહિ.” આથી તામાંર કાંઇ કહી ન શકી અને પોતાના ભાઈ આબ્શાલોમના ઘરમાં રહી.

21 And king David heard of all these things, and he was very angry.જયારે દાઉદે આખી વાત જાણી ત્યારે તેને ઘણો ક્રોધ ચડયો.

22 And Absalom spoke to Amnon neither good nor bad; for Absalom hated Amnon, because he had humbled his sister Tamar.આબ્શાલોમે આ વિષે આમ્નોનને કશું કહ્યું નહિ, પરંતુ આમ્નોને પોતાની બહેન તામાંરનો બળાત્કાર કર્યો હતો તેને લીધે તેને આમ્નોન ઉપર ભારે તિરસ્કાર હતો.

23 And it came to pass after two full years, that Absalom had sheepshearers in Baal-Hazor, which is beside Ephraim; and Absalom invited all the king's sons.પૂરાં બે વર્ષ પછી આબ્શાલોમે પોતાના ઘેટાંનું ઊન ઉતરાવતી વખતે રાજાના બધા પુત્રોને એફ્રાઈમ નજીક બઆલ-હાસોર મુકામે આમંત્રણ આપ્યું.

24 And Absalom came to the king, and said, Behold, now, thy servant has sheepshearers; let the king, I pray thee, and his servants go with thy servant.આબ્શાલોમે રાજા પાસે જઈને કહ્યું, “અત્યારે તો અમે ઘેટાંની ઊન કાતરી રહ્યાં છીએ, તેથી આપ આપના સેવકો સાથે પધારવાની કૃપા કરશો?”

25 And the king said to Absalom, No, my son, let us not all go, lest we be burdensome to thee. And he urged him, but he would not go; and he blessed him.રાજાએ તેને કહ્યું, “ના, માંરા દીકરા, જો અમે સર્વ તારે ઘેર આવીશું તો તને ઘણો જ ભાર પડશે.”આબ્શાલોમે ફરી ફરી વિનંતી કરી; પરંતુ રાજાને જવું ન હતું, અને તેણે આશીર્વાદ આપ્યા નહિ.

26 And Absalom said, If not, I pray thee, let my brother Amnon go with us. And the king said to him, Why should he go with thee?પણ આબ્શાલોમે કહ્યું, “તો પછી માંરા ભાઈ આમ્નોનને તો મોકલશોને?”રાજાએ પૂછયું, “આમ્નોન જ શા માંટે?”

27 But Absalom pressed him; and he let Amnon and all the king's sons go with him.પણ આબ્શાલોમે ફરી આગ્રહ કર્યો, તેથી રાજાએ આમ્નોનને અને પોતાના બધા પુત્રોને જવા દીધા.

28 And Absalom commanded his servants, saying, Mark ye now when Amnon's heart is merry with wine, and when I say to you, Smite Amnon; then slay him, fear not: have not I commanded you? be courageous, and be valiant.આબ્શાલોમે પોતાના માંણસોને કહ્યું, “બરાબર ધ્યાન રાખજો, આમ્નોન દાક્ષારસની મસ્તીમાં આવી જાય અને હું એમ કહું કે, આમ્નોનને પૂરો કરો, ત્યારે તેને માંરી નાખવો. ડરશો નહિ, હુકમ કરનાર હું છું. હિંમત રાખજો અને બહાદુરીથી કામ લેજો.”

29 And the servants of Absalom did to Amnon as Absalom had commanded. Then all the king's sons arose, and they rode each upon his mule and fled.તેથી આબ્શાલોમના યુવાન સૈનિકોએ તેના કહ્યા પ્રમાંણે કર્યું. અને તેઓએ આમ્નોનને માંરી નાખ્યો. પછી રાજાના બીજા પુત્રો ઝડપથી ઊભા થયા અને તેઓના ઘોડાઓ પર સવાર થઈને ભાગી ગયંા.

30 And it came to pass, while they were in the way, that tidings came to David, saying, Absalom has smitten all the king's sons, and there is not one of them left.હજી તેઓ યરૂશાલેમના રસ્તામાં હતા, ત્યાં દાઉદને કાને એવી અફવા આવી કે, “આબ્શાલોમે રાજાના બધા પુત્રોને માંરી નાખ્યા છે, એક પણ જીવતો રહેવા પામ્યો નથી.”

31 Then the king arose, and rent his garments, and lay on the earth; and all his servants stood by with their garments rent.એટલે રાજાએ ઊભા થઈને પોતાનાં વસ્ત્રો ફાડયાં અને તે ભૂમિ પર પડયો. તેના નોકરોએ પણ ભય અને દુ:ખને કારણે પોતાનાં વસ્ત્રો ફાડયાં.

32 And Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David's brother, answered and said, Let not my lord suppose that they have slain all the young men the king's sons; for Amnon only is dead; for by the appointment of Absalom this has been determined from the day that he humbled his sister Tamar.પણ દાઉદના ભાઈ શિમઆહના પુત્ર યોનાદાબે કહ્યું, “હે માંરા ધણી, માંરા રાજા, એમ ન માંનશો કે આપના બધા જ પુત્રો મરી ગયા છે. ફકત આમ્નોનને માંરી નાખ્યો છે. આમ્નોને આબ્શાલોમની બહેન તામાંરનું અપમાંન કર્યુ ત્યારથી આબ્શાલોમે તેનો બદલો લેવાનો નિશ્ચય કર્યો છે.

33 And now let not my lord the king take the thing to heart, to say, All the king's sons are dead; for Amnon only is dead.તારા સર્વ પુત્રોનો સંહાર થયો નથી! ફકત આમ્નોન જ માંરી નંખાયો છે.”

34 And Absalom fled. And the young man that watched lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, there came much people from the way behind him, from the hill-side.તે સમય દરમ્યાન આબ્શાલોમ ભાગી ગયો. નગરના પહેરેદારોએ લોકોનું એક મોટું ટોળું ટેકરીની બીજી બાજુથી આવતું જોયું. તેણે રાજાને સમાંચાર આપ્યા કે, કેટલાક માંણસો હોરાનાઈમની દિશામાંથી ટેકરો ઊતરતા જણાય છે.

35 And Jonadab said to the king, Behold, the king's sons come: as thy servant said, so it is.યોનાદાબે રાજાને કહ્યું, “જુઓ, મેં કહ્યું હતું તે પ્રમાંણે તારા પુત્રો આવી રહ્યા છે.”

36 And as soon as he had ended speaking, behold, the king's sons came, and lifted up their voice and wept; and the king also and all his servants wept very bitterly.તે બોલી રહ્યો તે જ ક્ષણે, રાજકુમાંરો આવી પહોંચ્યા. અને મોટેથી રડવા લાગ્યા. રાજા અને તેના બધા અમલદારો પણ ખૂબ રડવા લાગ્યા.

37 And Absalom fled, and went to Talmai, the son of Ammihud, king of Geshur. And [David] mourned for his son every day.આબ્શાલોમ નાસી જઈને આમ્મીહૂરના પુત્ર ગશૂરના રાજા તાલ્માંયની પાસે જતો રહ્યો, રાજા દરરોજ તેના પુત્ર માંટે શોક કરતો હતો.

38 Now Absalom fled, and went to Geshur, and was there three years.આબ્શાલોમ ગશૂરના રાજા પાસે ત્રણ વર્ષ સુધી રહ્યો.

39 And king David longed to go forth to Absalom; for he was comforted concerning Amnon, seeing he was dead.આમ્નોનના મૃત્યુનો શોક હળવો થતાં દાઉદ આબ્શાલોમને માંટે ઝૂરવા લાગ્યો.
