આમ થવાનું કારણ એ હતું કે તેઓ પોતાના દેવ યહોવાની આજ્ઞા માનતા નહોતા અને યહોવાના કરારનો તેમજ યહોવાના સેવક મૂસાએ જણાવેલી એકેએક આજ્ઞાઓનો ભંગ કરતા હતા. તેઓએ પોતાના યહોવા દેવની વાણી સાંભળી નહિ અને તેમની ઇચ્છા મુજબ ચાલ્યા નહિ.
