அப்பொழுது ஆபிரகாம் அத்தேசத்தாருக்கு வந்தனம் செய்து,

யோசேப்பு அவர்களைப் பார்த்து, தன் சகோதரர்கள் என்று தெரிந்துகொண்டான்; தெரிந்தும் தெரியாதவன்போலக் கடினமாக அவர்களோடு பேசி: நீங்கள் எங்கேயிருந்து வந்தீர்கள் என்று கேட்டான்; அதற்கு அவர்கள்: கானான் தேசத்திலிருந்து தானியம் வாங்கவந்தோம் என்றார்கள்.

யோசேப்பு தன் சகோதரர்களைப் பார்த்ததும், உடனே அடையாளம் கண்டுகொண்டான். எனினும் தெரிந்துகொண்டதைப்போல் காட்டிகொள்ளாமல் அவர்களிடம் கடுமையாக நடந்துகொண்டான். “எங்கேயிருந்து வருகின்றீர்கள்?” என்று கேட்டான். அவர்கள், “நாங்கள் கானான் பகுதியிலிருந்து வருகிறோம். உணவுப் பொருட்களை வாங்குவதற்காக வந்தோம்” என்றனர்.
