ஆரோனின் குமாரனாகிய எலெயாசாரும் மரணமடைந்தான், அவன் குமாரனாகிய பினெகாசுக்கு எப்பிராயீமின் மலைத் தேசத்திலே கொடுக்கப்பட்ட மேட்டிலே அவனை அடக்கம்பண்ணினார்கள்.

அதை ஆசாரியனாகிய ஆரோனின் குமாரனான எலெயாசாரின் மகன் பினெகாஸ் கண்டபோது, அவன் நடுச்சபையிலிருந்து எழுந்து, ஒரு ஈட்டியைத் தன் கையிலே பிடித்து,

மோசே அவர்களையும் ஆசாரியனாகிய எலெயாசரின் குமாரன் பினெகாசையும் யுத்தத்திற்கு அனுப்புகையில், அவன் கையிலே பரிசுத்த தட்டுமுட்டுகளையும், தொனிக்கும் பூரிகைகளையும் கொடுத்து அனுப்பினான்.

கீலேயாத் தேசத்தில் இருக்கிற ரூபன் புத்திரரிடத்துக்கும் காத் புத்திரரிடத்துக்கும் மனாசேயின் பாதிக்கோத்திரத்தாரிடத்துக்கும், ஆசாரியனாகிய எலெயாசாருடைய குமாரனாகிய பினெகாசையும்,

அப்பொழுது ஆசாரியனாகிய எலாயாசாரின் குமாரனாகிய பினெகாஸ் ரூபன் புத்திரரையும் காத் புத்திரரையும் மனாசே புத்திரரையும் நோக்கி: நீங்கள் கர்த்தருக்கு விரோதமாய் அப்படிக்கொத்த துரோகத்தைச் செய்யாதிருக்கிறதினாலே, கர்த்தர் நம்முடைய நடுவிலே இருக்கிறார் என்பதை இன்று அறிந்திருக்கிறோம்; இப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரரைக் கர்த்தரின் கைக்குத் தப்புவித்தீர்கள் என்றான்.

ஆரோனின் குமாரனாகிய எலெயாசாரின் மகன் பினெகாஸ் அந்நாட்களில் அவருடைய சந்நிதியில் நின்றான்; எங்கள் சகோதரராகிய பென்யமீன் புத்திரரோடே பின்னும் யுத்தம்பண்ணப் புறப்படலாமா புறப்படலாகாதா என்று அவர்கள் விசாரித்தார்கள்; அப்பொழுது கர்த்தர்: போங்கள்; நாளைக்கு அவர்களை உங்கள் கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுப்பேன் என்றார்.

அப்பொழுது பினெகாஸ் எழுந்து நின்று நியாயஞ்செய்தான்; அதினால் வாதை நிறுத்தப்பட்டது.
