ఈ సంగతులైన తరువాత రాజైన అహష్వేరోషు హమ్మెదాతా కుమారుడును అగాగీయుడునగు హామానును ఘనపరచి వాని హెచ్చించి, వాని పీఠమును తన దగ్గర నున్న అధిపతులందరికంటె ఎత్తుగా నుంచెను.

వారిపైన ముగ్గురిని ప్రధానులగా నియమించెను; ఆ ముగ్గురిలో దానియేలు ముఖ్యుడు. రాజునకు నష్టము కలుగకుండునట్లు ఆ యధిపతులు తప్ప కుండ వీరికి లెక్కలు ఒప్పజెప్పవలెనని ఆజ్ఞ ఇచ్చెను.
