1 Chronicles 21
1 తరువాత సాతాను ఇశ్రాయేలునకు విరోధముగా... లేచి, ఇశ్రాయేలీయులను లెక్కించుటకు దావీదును ప్రేరేపింపగా
2 దావీదు యోవాబునకును జనులయొక్క అధి పతులకునుమీరు వెళ్లి బెయేర్షెబా మొదలుకొని దాను వరకు ఉండు ఇశ్రాయేలీయులను ఎంచి, వారి సంఖ్య నాకు తెలియుటకై నాయొద్దకు దాని తీసికొని రండని ఆజ్ఞ ఇచ్చెను.
3 అందుకు యోవాబురాజా నా యేలిన వాడా, యెహోవా తన జనులను ఇప్పుడున్నవారికంటె నూరంతలు ఎక్కువమందిని చేయునుగాక;వారందరు నా యేలినవాని దాసులుకారా? నా యేలినవానికి ఈ విచారణ యేల? ఇది జరుగవలసిన హేతువేమి? జరిగినయెడల ఇశ్రాయేలీయులకు శిక్ష కలుగును అని మనవిచేసెను.
4 అయినను యోవాబు మాట చెల్లక రాజు మాటయే చెల్లెను గనుక యోవాబు ఇశ్రాయేలు దేశమందంతట సంచరించి తిరిగి యెరూషలేమునకు వచ్చి జనుల సంఖ్య వెరసి దావీదునకు అప్పగించెను.
5 ఇశ్రాయేలీయులందరిలో కత్తి దూయువారు పదకొండు లక్షల మందియు యూదా వారిలో కత్తి దూయువారు నాలుగు లక్షల డెబ్బదివేల మందియు సంఖ్యకు వచ్చిరి.
6 రాజు మాట యోవాబునకు అసహ్యముగా ఉండెను గనుక అతడు లేవి బెన్యామీను గోత్ర సంబంధులను ఆ సంఖ్యలో చేర్చలేదు.
7 ఈ కార్యము దేవుని దృష్టికి ప్రతికూలమగుటచేత ఆయన ఇశ్రాయేలీయులను బాధపెట్టెను.
1 And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel.
2 And David said to Joab and to the rulers of the people, Go, number Israel from Beer-sheba even to Dan; and bring the number of them to me, that I may know it.
3 And Joab answered, The Lord make his people an hundred times so many more as they be: but, my lord the king, are they not all my lord’s servants? why then doth my lord require this thing? why will he be a cause of trespass to Israel?
4 Nevertheless the king’s word prevailed against Joab. Wherefore Joab departed, and went throughout all Israel, and came to Jerusalem.
5 And Joab gave the sum of the number of the people unto David. And all they of Israel were a thousand thousand and an hundred thousand men that drew sword: and Judah was four hundred threescore and ten thousand men that drew sword.
6 But Levi and Benjamin counted he not among them: for the king’s word was abominable to Joab.
7 And God was displeased with this thing; therefore he smote Israel.
