ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਧਨਾਢ ਤੇ ਬੜਾ ਕਰੋਧ ਆਇਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਨਾਥਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਜਿਉਂਦੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੀ ਸੌਂਹ, ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੋ ਵੱਢਣ ਯੋਗ ਹੈ।

ਦਾਊਦ ਅਜੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਅਬੀਗੈਲ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਦਾਊਦ ਆਖ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ, “ਮੈਂ ਉਜਾੜ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਾਬਾਲ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਾਇਦਾਦ ਦੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕੀਤੀ। ਮੈਂ ਉਸਦੀ ਇੱਕ ਵੀ ਭੇਡ ਨਾ ਗੁਆਚਣ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਮੈਂ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੀ ਉਸਦੀ ਇੰਨੀ ਰਾਖੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ। ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਨਾਲ ਭਲਾਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਪਰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਬੁਰਿਆਈ ਕੀਤੀ।
