ਮੋਆਬ ਦੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਮਿਦਯਾਨ ਦੇ ਆਗੂਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਏਡੀ ਵੱਡੀ ਭੀੜ, ਸਾਡੇ ਆਲੇ-ਦੁਆਲੇ ਦੀ ਹਰ ਸ਼ੈਅ ਨੂੰ ਨਸ਼ਟ ਕਰ ਦੇਵੇਗੀ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੋਈ ਗਊ ਕਿਸੇ ਖੇਤ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਘਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਚਰ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।” ਉਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਸਿੱਪੋਰ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਬਾਲਾਕ ਮੋਆਬ ਦਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਸੀ।

ਸਿੱਪੋਰ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਬਾਲਾਕ ਨੇ ਉਹ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਦੇਖੀਆਂ ਜਿਹੜੀਆਂ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਅਮੋਰੀ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਸਨ। ਮੋਆਬ ਦਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਭੈਭੀਤ ਸੀ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਉੱਥੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ ਲੋਕ ਸਨ। ਮੋਆਬ ਸੱਚ ਮੁੱਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਡਰਦਾ ਸੀ।

ਮੋਆਬ ਅਤੇ ਮਿਦਯਾਨ ਦੇ ਆਗੂ ਬਾਲਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਚੱਲੇ ਗਏ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੋਲ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਪੈਸੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਾਲਾਕ ਦੀ ਆਖੀ ਹੋਈ ਹਰ ਗੱਲ ਦੱਸੀ।

Jeremiah 48:38
