ਯੋਹਾਨਾਨ, ਵਲਦ ਕਾਰੇਆਹ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਫ਼ੌਜੀ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀਆਂ, ਜਿਹੜੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਨ, ਨੇ ਇਸ਼ਮਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਕਾਰਿਆਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਸੁਣਿਆ।

ਗਦਲਯਾਹ ਦਾ ਬੋੜੀ ਦੇਰ ਦਾ ਰਾਜ ਜਦੋਂ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਨੂੰ ਤਬਾਹ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਤਾਂ ਓੱਥੇ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਦੀ ਫ਼ੌਜ ਦੇ ਕੁਝ ਸਿਪਾਹੀ, ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਖੁਲ੍ਹੇ ਇਲਾਕੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਾਲੇ ਵੀ ਬਾਹਰ ਸਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਿਪਾਹੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਕਿ ਬਾਬਲ ਦੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਬਚੇ ਹੋਏ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਰਾਜ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਅਹੀਕਾਮ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਗਦਲਯਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਖੀ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ। ਜਿਹੜੇ ਲੋਕ ਰਹਿ ਗਏ ਸਨ ਉਹ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਆਦਮੀ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਸਨ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਗਰੀਬ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਾਬਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੰਦੀ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਿਜਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।

ਯੋਹਾਨਾਨ, ਵਲਦ ਕਾਰੇਆਹ, ਅਤੇ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਦੀ ਫੌਜ ਦੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਹਾਲੇ ਵੀ ਖੇਤਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਨ, ਗਦਲਯਾਹ ਕੋਲ ਆ ਗਏ। ਗਦਲਯਾਹ ਮਿਸਪਾਹ ਕਸਬੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੀ।

ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਭੋਜਨ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ, ਇਸ਼ਮਾਏਲ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਸ ਬੰਦੇ ਉੱਠੇ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਅਹੀਕਾਮ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਗਦਲਯਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਕਤਲ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਗਦਲਯਾਹ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਬੰਦਾ ਸੀ ਜਿਸਦੀ ਬਾਬਲ ਦੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਦੇ ਗਵਰਨਰ ਵਜੋਂ ਚੋਣ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ।

ਜਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਪਹੁੰਚੇ, ਇਸ਼ਮਾਏਲ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਦੇ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਨਾ ਅਤੇ ਡੂੰਘੇ ਹੌਜ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੁੱਟਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ! ਪਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਸ ਜਾਣਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਇਸ਼ਮਾਏਲ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਮਾਰੋ! ਅਸੀਂ ਕੁਝ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਇੱਕ ਖੇਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਛੁਪਾਕੇ ਰੱਖੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਹਨ। ਸਾਡੇ ਕੋਲ ਕਣਕ, ਜੌਂ, ਅਤੇ ਤੇਲ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਦ ਹੈ। ਅਸੀਂ ਉਹ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਦੇ ਦੇਵਾਂਗੇ! ਇਸ ਲਈ ਇਸ਼ਮਾਏਲ ਰੁਕ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਕਤਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ।
Jeremiah 42:1
ਹਾਲੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਗੇਰੁਬ ਕਿਮਹਾਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਸਨ ਤਾਂ ਯੋਹਾਨਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਸ਼ਅਯਾਹ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਜਿਸਦਾ ਨਾਂ ਯਜ਼ਨਯਾਹ ਸੀ, ਨਬੀ ਯਿਰਮਿਯਾਹ ਵੱਲ ਗਏ। ਸਾਰੇ ਫ਼ੌਜੀ ਅਧਿਕਾਰੀ ਯੋਹਾਨਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਯਜ਼ਨਯਾਹ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਗਏ। ਸਾਰੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਛੋਟੇ ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਤੱਕ, ਯਿਰਮਿਯਾਹ ਵੱਲ ਗਏ।
Jeremiah 42:3
ਯਿਰਮਿਯਾਹ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਅੱਗੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਕਰ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਦੱਸੇ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਕਿੱਧਰ ਜਾਈਏ ਅਤੇ ਕੀ ਕਰੀਏ।”
Jeremiah 43:2
ਹੋਸ਼ਅਯਾਹ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਅਜ਼ਰਯਾਹ, ਕਾਰੇਆਹ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਯੋਹਾਨਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਕੁਝ ਹੋਰ ਲੋਕ ਬੜੇ ਗੁਮਾਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਜ਼ਿੱਦੀ ਸਨ। ਉਹ ਲੋਕ ਯਿਰਮਿਯਾਹ ਨਾਲ ਬਹੁਤ ਗੁੱਸੇ ਹੋ ਗਏ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਯਿਰਮਿਯਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਯਿਰਮਿਯਾਹ, ਤੂੰ ਝੂਠ ਬੋਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ। ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਸਾਡੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਆਖਣ ਲਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਭੇਜਿਆ, ‘ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਸਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾਕੇ ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ।’
