ਪਰ ਅਸਾਹੇਲ ਤਦ ਵੀ ਨਾ ਮੰਨਿਆ। ਤਦ ਅਬਨੇਰ ਨੇ ਬਰਛੀ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਟੇ ਸਿਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਉਸਦੀ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਪੱਸਲੀ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਜੋ ਬਰਛੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪਿੱਠ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਦੀ ਪਾਰ ਨਿਕਲ ਗਈ। ਸੋ ਉਹ ਉੱਥੇ ਹੀ ਡਿੱਗ ਪਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸੇ ਥਾਂ ਹੀ ਮਰ ਗਿਆ। ਯੋਆਬ ਅਤੇ ਅਬੀਸ਼ਈ ਨੇ ਅਬਨੇਰ ਦਾ ਪਿੱਛਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਸਾਹੇਲ ਦੀ ਲੋਬ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਤੇ ਪਈ ਰਹੀ। ਜਿਹੜਾ ਵੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੌੜਦਾ ਉੱਥੇ ਪਹੁੰਚਦਾ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਅਸਾਹੇਲ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਇਆ ਪਿਆ ਵੇਖ ਕਿ ਉੱਥੇ ਰੁਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ।

ਪਰ ਅਸਾਹੇਲ ਤਦ ਵੀ ਨਾ ਮੰਨਿਆ। ਤਦ ਅਬਨੇਰ ਨੇ ਬਰਛੀ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਟੇ ਸਿਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਉਸਦੀ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਪੱਸਲੀ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਜੋ ਬਰਛੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪਿੱਠ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਦੀ ਪਾਰ ਨਿਕਲ ਗਈ। ਸੋ ਉਹ ਉੱਥੇ ਹੀ ਡਿੱਗ ਪਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸੇ ਥਾਂ ਹੀ ਮਰ ਗਿਆ। ਯੋਆਬ ਅਤੇ ਅਬੀਸ਼ਈ ਨੇ ਅਬਨੇਰ ਦਾ ਪਿੱਛਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਸਾਹੇਲ ਦੀ ਲੋਬ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਤੇ ਪਈ ਰਹੀ। ਜਿਹੜਾ ਵੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੌੜਦਾ ਉੱਥੇ ਪਹੁੰਚਦਾ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਅਸਾਹੇਲ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਇਆ ਪਿਆ ਵੇਖ ਕਿ ਉੱਥੇ ਰੁਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ।
