ਈਸ਼ਬੋਸ਼ਥ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਜਦ ਉਹ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਉੱਪਰ ਰਾਜ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗਾ ਤਦ ਉਸਦੀ ਉਮਰ 40 ਵਰ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਦੋ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਤੀਕ ਰਾਜ ਕੀਤਾ, ਪਰ ਉਹ ਜੋ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਸਮੂਹ ਤੋਂ ਸਨ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਦਾ ਪਿੱਛਾ ਕੀਤਾ।
