ਡੇਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖਬਰ ਮਿਲੀ ਕਿ ਜ਼ਿਮਰੀ ਨੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਦੇ ਖਿਲਾਫ਼ ਸਾਜ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਤਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਨੇ ਫੌਜ ਦੇ ਸਿਪਹਸਾਲਾਰ ਆਮਾਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਵਜੋਂ ਚੁਣ ਲਿਆ।

ਅਹਜ਼ਯਾਹ ਨੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਰਾਜ ਕਰਨਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤਾ ਉਹ 22 ਵਰ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਵਰ੍ਹਾ ਰਾਜ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਸਦੀ ਮਾਤਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਉਂ ਅਥਲਯਾਹ ਸੀ ਜੋ ਆਮਰੀ ਦੀ ਧੀ ਸੀ।
