1 Samuel 24:4
ਦਾਊਦ ਦੇ ਸਾਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਅੱਜ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਦਿਨ ਹੈ ਜਿਸਦੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ ਸੀ। ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ ਸੀ, ‘ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਣ ਤੇਰੇ ਹੱਥ ਦੇਵੇਆਂਗਾ ਫ਼ਿਰ ਤੂੰ ਜੋ ਚਾਹੇਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਣ ਨਾਲ ਕਰੀਂ।’” ਤਦ ਦਾਊਦ ਰੀਂਗਦਾ-ਰੀਂਗਦਾ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਦੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਨੇੜੇ ਆ ਗਿਆ। ਤਦ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਦੇ ਚੋਗੇ ਦੀ ਨੁੱਕਰ ਪਾੜੀ। ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਊਦ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨਾ ਆਇਆ।

ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੇਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ! ਇਹ ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਖੁਦ ਦੇਖ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਅੱਜ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਦਾ ਮੌਕਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਇਨਕਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ। ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਤਰਸ ਆਇਆ। ਮੈਂ ਕਿਹਾ, ‘ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਘਾਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ। ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦਾ ਚੁਣਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਹੈ।’

ਅੱਜ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਜੋ ਨੇਕਨਾਮੀਆਂ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ। ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਕਰਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਤੇਰੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕੀਤਾ, ਪਰ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਮਾਰਿਆ।

ਤਦ ਅਬੀਸ਼ਈ ਨੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਅੱਜ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਵੈਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। ਜੋ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਹੁਣ ਆਗਿਆ ਕਰੋ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਰਛੀ ਦਾ ਇੱਕੋ ਵਾਰ ਮਾਰਕੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਵਿੰਨ੍ਹਾਂ। ਮੈਂ ਇੱਕੋ ਵਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਚਿੱਤ ਕਰ ਦੇਵਾਂਗਾ।”

2 Samuel 4:8
ਫ਼ਿਰ ਉਹ ਹਬਰੋਨ ਪਹੁੰਚੇ ਅਤੇ ਉੱਥੇ ਆਕੇ ਈਸ਼ਬੋਸ਼ਥ ਦਾ ਸਿਰ ਦਾਊਦ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਰੱਖਿਆ। ਰੇਕਾਬ ਅਤੇ ਬਆਨਾਹ ਨੇ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਇਹ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਵੈਰੀ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ, ਜੋ ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਜਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਲਦਾ ਸੀ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਈਸ਼ਬੋਸ਼ਥ ਦਾ ਸਿਰ ਹੈ। ਅੱਜ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਦਾ ਬਦਲਾ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ, ਅਤੇ ਉਸਦੀ ਅੰਸ਼ ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ।”
