ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਖੇਤਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਗਊਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਗਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ, ਜਦ ਉਹ ਪੈਲੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਘਰ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਰਾਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਂਦਿਆਂ ਕੁਰਲਾਉਂਦਿਆਂ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, “ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਕੀ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ? ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਿਉਂ ਰੋ ਰਹੇ ਹੋ?” ਤਦ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਯਾਬੇਸ਼ ਤੋਂ ਹਲਕਾਰੇ ਕੀ ਖਬਰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਆਏ ਹਨ।
