ਤਾਂ ਅਹਾਬ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਨੇ ਦੇਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਬਜ਼ੁਰਗਾਂ ਦੀ ਇੱਕ ਸਭਾ ਬੁਲਾਈ ਅਤੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਵੇਖੋ, ਬਨ-ਹਦਦ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਨੁਕਸਾਨ ਪਹੁੰਚਾਉਣਾ ਚਾਹ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ! ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮੈਥੋਂ ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਪਤਨੀਆਂ, ਮੇਰੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਤੇ ਮੇਰਾ ਸੋਨਾ-ਚਾਂਦੀ ਮੰਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਨ੍ਹਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ। ਹੁਣ ਉਹ ਮੇਰੀ ਹਰ ਵਸਤੂ ਹਥਿਆਉਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।”

ਜਦੋਂ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਨੇ ਉਹ ਚਿੱਠੀ ਪੜ੍ਹੀ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਫ਼ਾੜ ਕੇ ਇਹ ਦਰਸਾਇਆ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਉਦਾਸ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਪਰੇਸ਼ਾਨ ਹੈ। ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, “ਕੀ ਮੈਂ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਹਾਂ? ਨਹੀਂ! ਮੇਰਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਅਤੇ ਮੌਤ ਉੱਪਰ ਕੋਈ ਅਧਿਕਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਤਾਂ ਫ਼ਿਰ ਭਲਾ ਮੈਂ ਇਸ ਕੋਹੜੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਇਸਦੇ ਕੋੜ੍ਹ ਤੋਂ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਮੁਕਤ ਕਰ ਸੱਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਤਾਂ ਫ਼ਿਰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਭਲਾ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਕਿਉਂ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਹੈ? ਜ਼ਰਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਸੋਚੋ ਤਾਂ ਪਤਾ ਚੱਲੇਗਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਉਸਦੀ ਚਾਲ ਹੈ। ਇਸਦਾ ਮਤਲਬ ਅਰਾਮ ਦਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਲੜਾਈ ਲੜਨ ਦੀ ਵਿਉਂਤ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।”
