ସହେି ସମୟରେ ରୋମୀୟ ଶାସନ ଅନ୍ତର୍ଗତ ସମସ୍ତ ଦେଖର ଲୋକମାନଙ୍କ ଉଦ୍ଦେଶ୍ଯ ରେ କାଇସର ଅଗଷ୍ଟଙ୍କର ଗୋଟିଏ ଆଜ୍ଞା ଘାଷେଣା କରାଗଲା। ଆଜ୍ଞାଟି କୁ ହେ ଯେ ସମସ୍ତେ ଜନଗଣନା ପାଇଁ ନିଜନିଜ ନାମର ପଞ୍ଜୀକରଣ କରିବେ।

ମୁଁ ଯଦି କୌଣସି ଦୋଷ କରିଥାଏ, ଓ ମୃତ୍ଯୁ ଯୋଗ୍ଯ କୌଣସି କାର୍ୟ୍ଯ କରିଥାଏ। ତବେେ ମୁଁ ମୃତ୍ଯୁ ବରଣ କରିବା ପାଇଁ ପ୍ରସ୍ତୁତ ଅଛି। କିନ୍ତୁ ଯଦି ଏ ଅଭିଯୋଗକାରୀ ମାନଙ୍କର କଥା ରେ ସତ୍ଯତା ନାହିଁ ତବେେ ମାେତେ କହେି ସମାନଙ୍କେ ହାତ ରେ ସମର୍ପଣ କରି ପାରିବେ ନାହିଁ। ତେଣୁ ମୁଁ କାଇସରଙ୍କ ନିକଟରେ ବିଚ଼ାର ପାଇଁ ଆବଦନେ କରୁଛି।
