അപ്പോൾ ഇതാ, ശൌൽ കന്നുകാലികളെയും കൊണ്ടു വയലിൽനിന്നു വരുന്നു. ജനം കരയുന്ന സംഗതി എന്തു എന്നു ശൌൽ ചോദിച്ചു. അവർ യാബേശ്യരുടെ വർത്തമാനം അവനെ അറിയിച്ചു.
