ಫಿಲಿಷ್ಟಿಯರು ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲಿನ ಸಂಗಡ ಯುದ್ಧವನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿದರು; ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇ ಲಿನ ಜನರು ಫಿಲಿಷ್ಟಿಯರ ಮುಂದೆ ಓಡಿಹೋಗಿ ಗಿಲ್ಬೋಯ ಬೆಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊಲ್ಲಲ್ಪಟ್ಟವರಾಗಿ ಬಿದ್ದರು.

ಆದರೆ ಫಿಲಿಷ್ಟಿಯರು ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರ ಸಂಗಡ ಯುದ್ಧಮಾಡಿದರು. ಆಗ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ ಜನರು ಫಿಲಿಷ್ಟಿಯರ ಎದುರಿನಿಂದ ಓಡಿಹೋಗಿ ಗಿಲ್ಬೋವ ಬೆಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊಲ್ಲಲ್ಪಟ್ಟವರಾಗಿ ಬಿದ್ದರು.

ಮಾರನೆ ದಿವಸದಲ್ಲಿ ಏನಾಯಿತಂದರೆ, ಫಿಲಿಷ್ಟಿ ಯರು ಕೊಲ್ಲಲ್ಪಟ್ಟವರನ್ನು ಸುಲುಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಬಂದಾಗ ಗಿಲ್ಬೋಯ ಬೆಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿದ್ದಿದ್ದ ಸೌಲನನ್ನೂ ಅವನ ಕುಮಾರರನ್ನೂ ಕಂಡುಕೊಂಡರು.

ಆ ದಿವಸಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಏನಾಯಿತಂದರೆ,ಫಿಲಿಷ್ಟಿಯರು ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರ ಮೇಲೆ ಯುದ್ಧಮಾಡಲು ತಮ್ಮ ಸೈನ್ಯವನ್ನು ಕೂಡಿಸಿ ಕೊಂಡರು. ಆಗ ಆಕೀಷನು ದಾವೀದನಿಗೆ--ನೀನೂ ನಿನ್ನ ಜನರೂ ಯುದ್ಧವನ್ನು ಮಾಡಲು ನಮ್ಮ ಸಂಗಡ ನಿಶ್ಚಯವಾಗಿ ಬರಬೇಕೆಂದು ತಿಳಿಯಲಿಲ್ಲವೋ ಅಂದನು.

ಆಗ ಫಿಲಿಷ್ಟಿ ಯರು ಕೂಡಿಕೊಂಡು ಬಂದು ಶೂನೇಮಿನಲ್ಲಿ ದಂಡಿ ಳಿದರು. ಸೌಲನು ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರನ್ನು ಕೂಡಿಸಿ ಕೊಂಡು ಗಿಲ್ಬೋವದಲ್ಲಿ ದಂಡಿಳಿದನು.

ಆದರೆ ಫಿಲಿಷ್ಟಿಯರು ತಮ್ಮ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಸೈನ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಅಫೇಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಕೂಡಿಸಿ ಕೊಂಡರು. ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರು ಇಜ್ರೇಲ್ ನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಬುಗ್ಗೆಯ ಬಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ದಂಡಿಳಿದರು.

ಅವನಿಗೆ ವರ್ತ ಮಾನ ಹೇಳಿದ ಯೌವನಸ್ಥನು--ನಾನು ಸುಮ್ಮನೆ ಗಿಲ್ಬೋವ ಬೆಟ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಂದಿದ್ದೆನು. ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಇಗೋ, ಸೌಲನು ತನ್ನ ಈಟಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಆತುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದನು. ಆಗ ಇಗೋ, ರಥಗಳೂ ರಾಹುತರೂ ಅವನನ್ನು ಹಿಂದಟ್ಟಿಕೊಂಡೇ ಇದ್ದರು.

ಗಿಲ್ಬೋವ ಬೆಟ್ಟಗಳೇ, ನಿಮ್ಮ ಮೇಲೆ ಮಂಜೂ ಮಳೆಯೂ ಅರ್ಪಣೆಗಳ ಹೊಲ ಗಳೂ ಇಲ್ಲದೆ ಹೋಗಲಿ. ಯಾಕಂದರೆ ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಪರಾ ಕ್ರಮಶಾಲಿಗಳ ಗುರಾಣಿಯೂ ಸೌಲನ ಗುರಾಣಿಯೂ ಅವಮಾನವಾಗಿ ಬಿದ್ದವು. ಸೌಲನು ಎಣ್ಣೆಯಿಂದ ಅಭಿಷೇಕಿಸಲ್ಪಡದವನ ಹಾಗಾದನು.

ಆಗ ದಾವೀದನು ಹೋಗಿ ಫಿಲಿಷ್ಟಿಯರು ಗಿಲ್ಬೋ ವದಲ್ಲಿ ಸೌಲನನ್ನು ಹೊಡೆದಾಗ ಬೆತ್ಸಾನಿನ ಬೀದಿ ಯಲ್ಲಿ ತೂಗು ಹಾಕಿದ ಗಿಲ್ಯಾದಿನ ಯಾಬೇಷ್ ಪಟ್ಟಣದವರು ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಹೋಗಿ ಕದ್ದು ಒಯ್ದ
