ಕರ್ತನಾದ ದೇವರು ಆದಾಮನಿಗೆ ಗಾಢನಿದ್ರೆ ಬರಮಾಡಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ಅವನು ನಿದ್ರೆಮಾಡಿದನು; ಆಗ ಆತನು ಅವನ ಪಕ್ಕೆಯ ಎಲುಬುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದನ್ನು ತಕ್ಕೊಂಡು ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಬದಲಾಗಿ ಮಾಂಸವನ್ನು ಮುಚ್ಚಿದನು.
