ಮಿದ್ಯಾನಿನ ವೈದಿಕನಿಗೆ ಏಳು ಮಂದಿ ಕುಮಾರ್ತೆಯರಿದ್ದರು. ಇವರು ಬಂದು ತಮ್ಮ ತಂದೆಯ ಮಂದೆಗಳಿಗೆ ನೀರು ಸೇದಿ ದೋಣಿಗಳನ್ನು ತುಂಬಿಸು ತ್ತಿದ್ದರು.

ಅವರು ದಿನ್ನೆಯನ್ನು ಹತ್ತಿ ಪಟ್ಟಣ ದೊಳಗೆ ಹೋಗುವಾಗ ನೀರು ಸೇದಲು ಬರುವ ಹುಡುಗಿಯರನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ -- ದರ್ಶಿಯು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದಾನೋ? ಎಂದು ಅವರನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದರು.

ಸಾಲೇಮಿನ ಅರಸನಾದ ಮೆಲ್ಕೀಚೆದೇಕನು ರೊಟ್ಟಿಯನ್ನೂ ದ್ರಾಕ್ಷಾ ರಸವನ್ನೂ ತಂದನು. ಇವನು ಮಹೋನ್ನತನಾದ ದೇವರ ಯಾಜಕನು.

ನಾನು ಯಾವ ಹುಡುಗಿಗೆ--(ನೀರು) ಕುಡಿಯುವ ಹಾಗೆ ನಿನ್ನ ಕೊಡವನ್ನು ಇಳಿಸು ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಿ ಕೊಂಡಾಗ --ನೀನು ಕುಡಿ, ನಿನ್ನ ಒಂಟೆಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಹ ಕುಡಿಯುವದಕ್ಕೆ ಕೊಡುತ್ತೇನೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುವಳೋ ಆಕೆಯನ್ನೇ ನೀನು ನಿನ್ನ ಸೇವಕನಾದ ಇಸಾಕನಿಗೆ ನೇಮಕ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾಗಿರಲಿ. ಇದರಿಂದ ನೀನು ನನ್ನ ಯಜಮಾನನಿಗೆ ದಯೆ ತೋರಿಸಿದ್ದೀ ಎಂದು ನಾನು ತಿಳುಕೊಳ್ಳುವೆನು ಎಂದು ಬೇಡಿಕೊಂಡನು.
ಆದಿಕಾಂಡ 29:6
ಅವನು ಅವರಿಗೆ--ಅವನು ಕ್ಷೇಮವಾಗಿದ್ದಾನೋ ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಿ ದಾಗ ಅವರು--ಕ್ಷೇಮವಾಗಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಇಗೋ, ಅವನ ಮಗಳಾದ ರಾಹೇಲಳು ಕುರಿಗಳ ಸಂಗಡ ಬರುತ್ತಾಳೆ ಅಂದರು.

ಫರೋಹನು ಯೋಸೇಫನಿಗೆ ಸಾಫ್ನತ್ಪನ್ನೇಹ ಎಂದು ಹೆಸರಿಟ್ಟನು. ತರುವಾಯ ಓನಿನ ಯಾಜಕನಾದ ಪೋಟೀಫೆರನ ಮಗಳಾದ ಆಸನತ್ ಎಂಬಾಕೆಯನ್ನು ಅವನಿಗೆ ಹೆಂಡತಿಯಾಗಿ ಕೊಟ್ಟನು. ಆಗ ಯೋಸೇಫನು ಐಗುಪ್ತದೇಶದಲ್ಲೆಲ್ಲಾ ಹೊರಟು ಸಂಚರಿಸಿದನು.
