ದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಬರವು, ಜಾಡ್ಯವು, ಉರಿಗಾಳಿಯು, ಬೂದಿಯು, ಮಿಡಿತೆ, ಕಂಬಳಿಹುಳ ಇವುಗಳು ಇದ್ದರೆ ಇಲ್ಲವೆ ಅವರ ಶತ್ರುಗಳು ತಮ್ಮ ಸ್ವದೇಶದ ಪಟ್ಟಣ ಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರನ್ನು ಸಂಕಟಪಡಿಸಿದರೆ ಯಾವ ಬಾಧೆ ಯಾವ ಬೇನೆ ಇದ್ದರೂ ತನ್ನ ಬಾಧೆಯನ್ನೂ ವ್ಯಸನ ವನ್ನೂ ತಿಳಿಯುವ ಒಬ್ಬ ಮನುಷ್ಯನಾದರೂ

ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಗಳೂ ಇವುಗಳ ಸ್ಥಾಪನೆಯೂ ಆದ ತರುವಾಯ ಅಶ್ಶೂರಿನ ಅರಸನಾದ ಸನ್ಹೇರೀಬನು ಹೊರಟು ಬಂದು ಯೆಹೂದದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸಿ ಕೋಟೆಯುಳ್ಳ ಪಟ್ಟಣಗಳ ಬಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ದಂಡಿಳಿದು ಅವುಗಳನ್ನು ತನಗಾಗಿ ಜಯಿಸಬೇಕೆಂದು ಅಂದುಕೊಂಡನು.

ರೆಹಬ್ಬಾಮನು ಅರಸನಾದ ಐದನೇ ವರುಷ ದಲ್ಲಿ ಏನಾಯಿತಂದರೆ, ಅವರು ಕರ್ತನಿಗೆ ವಿರೋಧ ವಾಗಿ ಅಪರಾಧ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ಐಗುಪ್ತದ ಅರಸನಾದ ಶೀಶಕನು ಯೆರೂಸಲೇಮಿಗೆ ವಿರೋಧವಾಗಿ ಬಂದನು.

ಎಲೀಷನು ತಾನು ಬದುಕಿಸಿದ ಮಗನ ತಾಯಿಯಾದವಳಿಗೆ -- ನೀನು ಎದ್ದು ನೀನೂ ನಿನ್ನ ಮನೆಯವರೂ ಎಲ್ಲಿ ಇಳುಕೊಳ್ಳುವದಕ್ಕೆ ಸ್ಥಳ ಉಂಟೋ ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಹೋಗಿ ಇಳುಕೊಂಡಿರು. ಯಾಕಂದರೆ ಕರ್ತನು ಬರವನ್ನು ಕಳುಹಿಸುವದಕ್ಕಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಅದು ದೇಶದ ಮೇಲೆ ಏಳು ವರುಷದ ವರೆಗೂ ಇರುವದು ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದನು.

ಆಗ ಸಮಾರ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಬರ ಉಂಟಾಯಿತು. ಇಗೋ, ಒಂದು ಕತ್ತೆಯ ತಲೆಯು ಎಂಭತ್ತು ರೂಪಾಯಿಗಳಿಗೂ ಒಂದು ಪಾರಿವಾಳದ ಮಲವು ಐದು ರೂಪಾಯಿಗಳಿಗೂ ಮಾರಲ್ಪಡುವ ವರೆಗೂ ಅದನ್ನು ಮುತ್ತಿಗೆ ಹಾಕಿದನು.

ಹೊಗೆಯೊಳಗಿಂದ ಮಿಡಿತೆಗಳು ಭೂಮಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಹೊರಟು ಬಂದವು. ಭೂಮಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಚೇಳುಗಳಿಗೆ ಬಲವಿರುವ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಅವುಗಳಿಗೆ ಬಲವು ಕೊಡಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿತು.
