ಆಗ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರ ಸಂಗಡ ಯುದ್ಧಮಾಡಲು ಫಿಲಿಷ್ಟಿಯರ ಮೂವತ್ತು ಸಾವಿರ ರಥಗಳೂ ಆರು ಸಾವಿರ ಕುದುರೆ ರಾಹುತರೂ ಸಮುದ್ರತೀರದ ಮರಳಷ್ಟು ಜನವೂ ಕೂಡಿಕೊಂಡು ಬೇತಾವೆನಿನ ಪೂರ್ವದಿಕ್ಕಿನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಮಿಕ್ಮಾಷಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇಳುಕೊಂಡರು.

ಆಗ ಯೆಹೋಶುವನು ಅವರಿಗೆ--ನೀವು ದೇಶ ವನ್ನು ಪಾಳತಿ ನೋಡಿ ಬನ್ನಿರಿ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿ ಯೆರಿಕೋ ವಿನಿಂದ ಮನುಷ್ಯರನ್ನು ಬೇತೇಲಿಗೆ ಪೂರ್ವಕಡೆಯಾದ ಬೇತಾವೆನಿನ ಬಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಆಯಿಗೆ ಕಳುಹಿಸಿದನು. ಆಗ ಅವರು ಹೋಗಿ ಆಯಿಯನ್ನು ಪಾಳತಿನೋಡಿ
