ಆಗ ಕರ್ತನು ಯೆಹೋಶುವನಿಗೆ--ಭಯಪಡಬೇಡ, ನಿರುತ್ಸಾಹಗೊಳ್ಳಬೇಡ. ನೀನು ಸಮಸ್ತ ಯುದ್ಧಸ್ಥರಾದ ಜನರನ್ನು ಕೂಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಎದ್ದು ಆಯಿಗೆ ಏರಿ ಹೋಗು. ನೋಡು, ನಾನು ಆಯಿಯ ಅರಸನನ್ನೂ ಅವನ ಜನವನ್ನೂ ಪಟ್ಟಣ ವನ್ನೂ ಸೀಮೆಯನ್ನೂ ನಿನ್ನ ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಒಪ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೇನೆ.

ಆಯಿಯಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಬೇತೇಲಿನಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇ ಲಿನ ಹಿಂದೆ ಹೊರಟು ಹೋಗದ ಮನುಷ್ಯನು ಒಬ್ಬನೂ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಪಟ್ಟಣವನ್ನು ತೆರೆದಿಟ್ಟು ಹೋಗಿ ಇಸ್ರಾಯೇಲ್ಯರನ್ನು ಹಿಂದಟ್ಟಿದರು.

ಆಯಿಯ ಅರಸನನ್ನು ಸಾಯಂಕಾಲದ ವರೆಗೂ ಒಂದು ಮರದಲ್ಲಿ ತೂಗ ಹಾಕಿಸಿದನು. ಸೂರ್ಯ ಅಸ್ತಮಿಸುವಾಗ ಯೆಹೋಶು ವನು ಅವನ ಹೆಣವನ್ನು ಮರದಿಂದ ಇಳಿಸಿ ಅದನ್ನು ಆ ಪಟ್ಟಣದ ಬಾಗಲಿನ ದ್ವಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಕಲು ಆಜ್ಞಾಪಿಸಿದನು. ಆಗ ಅವರು ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಮಾಡಿ ಈ ವರೆಗೆ ಇರುವ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಕಲ್ಲು ಕುಪ್ಪೆಯನ್ನು ಅದರ ಮೇಲೆ ಹಾಕಿದರು.
